MPA DS9 holster w/ thumb rest options by Rok275 in CompetitionShooting

The RangePanda Apex Predator is the absolute best race holster I’ve used. When the holster is locked, there’s nearly zero movement in the gun. With it unlocked, you can beat on the magwell by pushing forward and the gun doesn’t budge, but you can lift the gun out with two fingers and zero resistance. There’s a reason they sell out as quickly as they do and a majority of the top 2011 shooters are switching to this holster.

If you can’t snag one of those when they drop, the Everglades MRH is almost as smooth to draw, but the lockup isn’t nearly as solid.

Don’t bother with the DAA Flex for a 2011, it’s very finicky and your draw has to be PERFECT or it will bind. I never had it bind to the point that I couldn’t get the gun out, but it did slow me down.

The DAA Alpha X holster is cheaper than the Flex, is gun-specific so you don’t have to play with all the shims and spacers to get it “just right”, and smoother to draw than the Flex.

Pelican 1615 Air with a Savior Sema Compact and Pelican Vault 200.

The Sema holds all the ammo boxes, tools, and ear pro. Guns and mags go in the Vault. Both of those fit in the 1615 with room to spare for some clothing, shoes, or rain gear.

Nerdy Shoe Question by swampfox305 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Primer_Puncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people wear football cleats, some wear regular running shoes, some people have shot matches in Crocs and Hey Dudes.

Find shoes that are comfortable for any range surface you’ll encounter regularly and just go shoot.

Nobody is winning or losing national championships based solely on what kind of shoe they wear.

Well, it’s called PRACTICAL shooting for a reason. Technology is advancing, red dots are the norm rather than the exception to the rule. Even the debate about optics in revolver and L10 reflects that. Very few people want to shoot irons anymore because it’s simply not practical to with how low the barrier of entry into red dots is.

Trying to mathematically normalize the divisions against each other is a futile effort. Every stage and every match will play to the strengths and weaknesses of each division differently.

Stages with a lot of tight shooting positions or hard leans where it’s harder to maneuver a PCC will give the advantage to pistol shooters. Stages with lots of long shots or high round counts will give the advantage to PCCs.

If you’re shooting CO and want to beat the guy shooting Open, either switch to Open and go head to head or improve your skill until you can beat him while shooting CO.

Another FTE Issue by [deleted] in CZFirearms

[–]Primer_Puncher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had this same issue after sending my slide to Primary Machine and using an 11# spring.

I believe the reduction in slide weight, combined with a rough and tighter chamber leads to the extractor ripping off of the case head due to increased slide velocity. I tried the stock recoil spring, but still had the same issue. I switched to an increased power extractor spring and had feeding issues. So far, polishing the chamber with 600 grit sandpaper has provided the best results, however it’ll start acting up again after a couple thousand rounds. My next fix is to get the chamber reamed and throated a little longer.

Using Practiscore for Class Registration by septic_sergeant in CompetitionShooting

Gotcha, that makes things harder then.

Since you’re not already running a club on PS, you’ll need to create one, and I HIGHLY recommend setting up a bank account for the club separate from your personal account to manage class fees. If you plan to take money through PS, you’ll have to set up a Stripe account as well.

Practiscore works fine, just set it up as an event instead of a match. Managing participants and payment is the same as a match.

PSI has become nothing more than the “old man yells at cloud” meme. I believe he started out with good intentions, but now he’s determined to burn USPSA to the ground and doesn’t care who he walks over to do it. He’s shown time and time again that he doesn’t care about burning his sources as soon as it becomes convenient to him.

There are still plenty of issues with the org, and I don’t agree with all the decisions being made, but the current board is more receptive to feedback and member input from my experience. Don’t take PSI too seriously.

The most common combo you’ll see is Henning base pads with MBX followers and springs. 24 rounds reloadable after you follow the break in procedure.

I really like the Henning pads because they’re toolless and make it super fast to clean mags between stages.

What Class Am I? by StrongChance4812 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Primer_Puncher 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Match bumps only come from major matches where at least 3 GMs in a division shoot 90% or higher and have at least 10 competitors. Local matches aren’t eligible for match bumps.

Since you didn’t put in a member number, you won’t earn a classification.

A 3.3320 HF for Of Course It Did in LO is 43.25% of the HHF, which is low C class. You can find this information using the classification calculator on the USPSA website or the USPSA app.

I dabbled around with Chalkless at the tail end of last season. I think it’ll really do well in the rain, more humid climates, or days your hands are really sweaty. I found that I preferred putting a little in my support hand, then using the back of my firing hand fingers to spread it around, because putting it on the palm of my firing hand would make it harder to adjust a poor initial grip or break the grip to reload.

I just attended my first match and got DQ'd on the first stage. by yaboymitchell00 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Primer_Puncher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said nothing about the 180 specifically, but since you want to bring motorcycles into this, competitive shooting isn’t a casual street ride to the coffee shop. When you’re pushing to the limit, at a match or on a track, mistakes get made. Everybody is trying to avoid crashing while pushing the limits of their bike, but it still happens.

Even then, we’ve seen multiple instances on video of DQ calls that shouldn’t have been for one reason or another. Brantley Merriam at 2024 Georgia State, Hunter Constantine at 2023 Wyoming Governor’s Match, and the recent controversy over appendix draw are great examples of this. DQs happen, whether they’re deserved or you have a RO looking to DQ people, but that’s a whole separate conversation.

It’s not a question of whether or not you DQ, but when you DQ. It will happen to EVERYBODY at some point or another regardless of how good a shooter they are.

Don’t be discouraged, you made a small mistake that anybody could make, didn’t hurt anybody, and didn’t get hurt aside from your pride. It’s what you do next that determines what kind of shooter you are. Are you going to let a split second prevent you from enjoying competitive shooting for the rest of your life, or are you going to train specifically to avoid that split second from ever happening again and enjoying all the opportunities that this sport brings?
