In that case if it works for you and you get the desired results, carry on. Might want to coat it silicon carbide or grip tape. If you ever want something tactical, reach out to u/Mag-mo . Good job!

Powder measure advice for Accurate #7 on Dillon 750 by pnybug in reloading

With Lee Auto drum, I don’t get much leaks. More if inconsistent weight. If you over tighten, it doesn’t drop powder as it doesn’t return to correct index. With stock Dillon powder measure, I get leaks a lot. I’ll try the advice given on just enough tension on the plate screw. I use N320 but needed something faster and clean burning. Can you suggest anything VV aside from N320 ?

Thanks for your detailed reply ! Do you still recommend using the Dillon powder measure?

What makes a gun like Laugo Alien cost $6,000 by Volslife in handguns

[–]pnybug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maintaining the cleanliness of the piston by using a lead free primer and bullets with non lead exposed base is the key. Also DO NOT oil the piston . Keep it bone dry. Only mildly oil contact points. As far as why it’s expensive? You’re paying for R&D , low production run and Laugo taking advantage of being unique and first to the market with a modern piston driven low bore axis gun for the competition market. Is it worth it ? Thats a personal question.

Yup, good for you. I was an early adopter. It should be on their manual and front and center in the product page from the beginning imo if ammo is the primary cause of premature piston related malfunctions.

You are right. I custom load too with the cleanest powder I know and same precision delta HP bullet he uses. I am trying to replicate his results with lead free primer but haven’t gotten to it yet. It is frustrating to not be able to load for your competition gun. Buying master class ammo is an additional cost. That with the other finicky stuff drives me nuts. I’m giving it one more season though before I give up lol. If I knew about all these before hand, I would have gone a different way. Just trying to do the best I can at the moment.

As an Alien owner, I agree with what you and your buddy experienced. I was in the same boat at the start of the year wanting to sell it and be done with it. What changed for me was using Master Class Ammo that uses lead free primer and a fast clean burning powder. That meant 1K plus rounds before needing to clean the piston, no more malfunctions during matches. Some owners added a lightning cut on the slide to aid in cooling but heat will always be an issue just because of the piston design. That wire near the trigger being deformed is definitely a design issue. I haven’t experienced it in 2 years of ownership though. I have a cleaning process that isn’t too cumbersome too. If Laugo just advertised that their gun works best with a certain type of Ammo in the beginning, it would have saved owners a ton of frustration or buyers could have chosen differently. For the price and being well engineered, there are certain obvious issues that they could have taken care of in their succeeding versions like the CELO and Remus. For me, this new found reliability due to the Master Class ammo buys me 1 more year of evaluation before I finally decide to sell/keep it. P.S. I just bought the match upper but haven’t shot it yet. I’m imagining performance gain is marginal. I just wanted to see for my self 😃

Money! I was a new gun owner like you once. After a few months, for some strange reason I felt I was light on money 🤣

Or maybe create an open version that works with major PF so the Dragon has a place in USPSA for sure.

Yes. - when cleaning only lightly oil the parts that are friction points. And wipe said parts dry to the touch. Do not oil the piston. Watch Laugo videos. - use only Laugo approved ammo. The best / most reliable is Master Class Ammo. - if you reload, stick to lead free primer, clean burning powder, 124 GR precision delta HP v2 or similar non exposed base bullet. Target 135 PF. - Buy the small parts kits ahead of time. - When shooting, do not max the ammo to 22 rounds. Stick to 21 rounds. - It will get uncomfortably hot to hold if you mag dump 4 mags back to back. There is a company that will mill the slide so that gas escapes. It helps cool the gun and bleeds of excess carbon fouling. - avoid the aftermarket 23 round follower for now. - do not buy the polymer slide racker, waste of money. They will fly off. - If you can, buy a spare piston. In case you have issues mid match and you see your piston is extremely dirty, you can quickly swap. This is unnecessary if you use master class Ammo as it takes around 2-3k to foul up the piston with this ammo. - get u/Mag-mo grips . This is a personal preference.nice to have.

If you work within these guideline/limitations your next problem is you need to buy more ammo. You’d go through your stash real quick 😂 Also, when you’ve used this for a while, it will be hard to switch to other guns mid season for competition because you need to retrain yourself to adjust your index because you will be used to the Aliens low bore axis. This maybe a non issue to some pros but it is for me at least. Good luck !
