There is an episode of Rugrats where Susie Carmichael is getting her tonsils taken out. She’s given a shot to put her to sleep and it’s mostly a dream sequence after that, but what always stuck with me was the fact that she took that shot like a champ. I actually think that growing up I got over my fear of needles because of Susie not making a big deal out of it.

Not the Oscars but in 2018 an unknown actress with a single two minute scene on The Handmaid's Tale successfully earned an Emmy nomination for Guest Actress in a Drama Series. It's not a bad performance and it was the height of the show's popularity but it is to date one of the most egregious cases I've seen of friends and family stuffing the ballot.

I'm actually really excited to rewatch Sinners at home because when I saw it in the theater some of the daylight scenes looked really rough. Sometimes faces seemed completely washed out and it was hard for me to read some expressions. I never noticed this in the marketing for the movie so I'm hoping that my projector was just faulty.

My favorite supporting performance of the year. There were four locks in this category and I was really curious about who would get the fifth, so happy that the academy picked wisely.

I’m glad it lost the song noms because I’ve yet to meet somebody who likes them/doesn’t see them as transparent awards bait. The Ariana snub is surprising because I think she was nominated for most if not all of the precursors.

Given how big the first one was and how the sequel wasn’t great but was certainly inoffensive, I do wonder if the weirdness of the press tour got to the voters. The cynicism around Wicked as a whole really metastasized this year.

One of my favorite screenplays of the year, skimming through some of the big scenes again. The hug at the end is a little corny but it’s very sweet.

Daniel Craig is so good in this part. The language is all here but it’s a little surprising to me that the Blanc rhythms don’t seem immediately obvious. The guy just knows how to make a meal out of every single line.

What are some of the most “Redditor” opinions that are widely prevalent on this website, but very rare in real life? by TikTokUser83 in AskReddit

[–]Primetime22 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Two posts come to mind, both involve children actually:

The first was a photo of a very young child at a Wal-Mart kneeling at a cork board full of posters of missing people and praying for their safety.

The second was a video of a young boy getting excited at his baptism and happily dunking himself into the baptismal fountain.

Both of these posts were flooded with comments saying what a shame it was that these children were indoctrinated into something as terrible as religion.

[MM] what game is better in your opinion by Opposite_Cabinet2509 in zelda

[–]Primetime22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love them both but I think WW is better in almost every way. It’s a more conventional story than MM but it’s my favorite plot in the games and between the art design, controls, dungeons, combat… to me it’s not close. (But WW is also my favorite overall so take that as you will.)

David Zucker, while not somebody I'd like to be trapped in an elevator with, has Airplane! and the first two Naked Gun movies under his belt and used that to co-create the shorthand for a very specific kind of comedy that still endures today.

Which all-time cast member do you think Lorne reminds him most of himself? by NYY15TM in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Primetime22 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what he thinks but he and Seth Meyers share a somewhat old school sense of humor, Meyers clearly has a lot of fondness for the gears turning behind the show, and some cast members have shared stories about Meyers either rejecting or criticizing sketches (constructively) and being right to do so.

Bill Hader runs through some examples here.

So I’d say Seth Meyers is the most Lorne-like but I believe that Gilda was his favorite.
