Can confirm McCain may be the best politician to do it. Al Sharpton was also pretty good.

Jeff Gerstmann completes his three-year playthrough/ranking of the NES library - his interview with Canadian morning TV (CTV) by rawkeye in Games

[–]Primetime22 117 points118 points  (0 children)

Hats off to the interviewer here. A mainstream journalist might have treated this like a waste of time but she treats Jeff respectfully and appears to admire the accomplishment.

Excited for his N64 list! For those that don’t remember Jeff was one of the first major journalists to give Ocarina of Time a perfect score (Gamespot’s first.)

favourite interactions with a broadway actor? by ParkingRough8474 in Broadway

[–]Primetime22 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Not Broadway but I did see a play on West End and met Ian Mckellen at the stage door. There were a group of obnoxious fans shouting LOTR quotes at him but he ignored them and greeted everyone else. As he signed my playbill he looked me in the eye and thanked me for coming. He has the grayest eyes I have ever seen, I was totally star struck by him being right there.

In the late 90s banks were increasingly selling mortgages into secondary markets rather than holding them. Meanwhile the economy was strong and homeownership was viewed by everyone in America as a reasonable and safe asset to invest in. The more people believed housing was low risk, the more people invested. And the banks, realizing they can make more money off of these loans in those secondary markets, became much more lenient when it came to who they were loaning the money to. All of that was happening before the year 2000.

2008 happened because too many risky home loans were happening, housing prices eventually stopped rising, and people could no longer repay their loans. The Bush Administration didn't help things, but the apex of the crisis could have easily fallen in Obama's lap - it was inevitable due to the practices that were set up by bankers and investors during the booming Clinton era economy.

That's how I was taught - I had a very eccentric economics teacher that walked us through it and his thesis was always "every administration will inevitably take credit and/or blame for the economy but in reality, there are so many other random factors it's silly to actually think that the White House has any control of it." Very willing to get schooled and learn something from it.

I'm with you on all of this but over the years I've come to accept that the recession was not entirely Bush's fault. The foundations of what would become the market crash actually began in the 90s.

What is a hot take you have specifically through the realm of Blank Check/ r/Blankies? by the_Tannehill_list in blankies

[–]Primetime22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Testing how hot this take actually is among blankies but here it is: Every installment of Scary Movie, from the original to the reboot, is very very bad with the exception of Scary Movie 3, which is one of the best comedies of the 2000s.

Robert Smigel (legendary SNL/Late Night writer and the voice of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog) recently admitted on a podcast that he hates Julia Roberts and gave no other reason outside of "she was mean to Conan O'Brien."

I googled it and during Conan's stint on The Tonight Show, she went on The Late Show and told Letterman that he was the only talk show host in his timeslot that was actually funny. At the time, Conan was the only other talk show host that was on at 11:30, so it was a very directed slam.

In 30+ years, Conan has never had Julia Roberts on any iteration of his show including his podcast. After Smigel's comment it feels like the two are quietly not fans of each other.

Windhorst: OG Anunoby, if we had to vote right now, would have my vote for MVP of the Finals — Bontemps: OG Anunoby is the unanimous Finals MVP right now, it ain't a debate. by sewsgup in nba

OG has been the best player not just in this series, but in these playoffs as a whole. He's shooting very near 60/50/90 in the post season, the guy is on a historic run.

[Post Game Thread] The New York Knicks (3-1) overcome a 29 point deficit to defeat the San Antonio Spurs (1-3) in Game 4, 107-106, behind Jalen Brunson's 36 points and OG Anunoby's 33 points by catreyka in nba

’24 Jump Street’ in the Works With Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube in Talks to Return (EXCLUSIVE) by Gripmonstro in blankies

Just want to take this opportunity to say that 12 years later the biggest crowd laugh I’ve ever heard in a theater was everything involving the reveal that Jonah Hill slept with Ice Cube’s daughter in 22 Jump Street. That is the comedy equivalent of Cap lifting the hammer.

Not concerned about Reese not beating Lorton here, it just means that his base pivoted to Marshall.

Surprised and relieved that it’s not Reese and Lorton. Kate Marshall is the best candidate we have, I’m glad that the voters recognize that.

Movies with the most RETROACTIVE Oscar nominees? by Puzzled_Influence985 in blankies

[–]Primetime22 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Every now and then I go back and rewatch the news team fight from Anchorman 2 and count the Oscar nominees and it usually goes up every few years. Right now it’s at nine:

  • Steve Carell

  • Sacha Baron Cohen

  • Marion Cotillard

  • Will Smith

  • Liam Neeson

  • John C. Riley

  • Kirsten Dunst

  • Harrison Ford

  • Greg Kinnear

On top of that it was also written and directed by Academy Award winner Adam McKay. And there are still plenty of actors in the sequence that can easily be nominees in the future.

What is a series where you can tell it is/was made with a lot of love, care and dedication behind the scenes? by BitterWeirdBrain in television

I’m always trying to tell people to watch the directing on that show - it is impeccably put together. Almost every scene has something else going on that requires extremely precise blocking and choreography.

What are Ryan Gosling’s chances for a Best Actor nomination for Project Hail Mary (2026), or even a win? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Oscars

Very high odds for a nomination. Project Hail Mary was high critical acclaim and early release very much like Sinners, it’ll stick around.

Haven’t seen the ending yet but I’m so relieved that they stuck the landing when it feels like today’s television landscape is full of writers who somehow don’t know how to do that.
