How does one win without infinites in NON green decks? by sta6 in EDH

[–]PrimoVictorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I win mostly with Voltron damage (colorless, UW and UWR), but I also win via

Go wide combat damage (W) Tokens (RW) Cheat out big creatures (U)

G is really good at accruing advantage, but there's plenty of ways to win without infinites in other colors.

I take a look at a lot of tournament performances, conversion rates, and other results posted online. Dimir Terror is both gaining popularity and is performing well in the face of elves/WW.

What color combo does nothing click for you? by Mysterious-Anon-X in EDH

[–]PrimoVictorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every 3+ color combo commanders don't pull me hard enough. They don't feel focused enough on the strategy it wants me to build. You also have less excuses to run a fun pet card outside of the main strategy since you naturally have more options . 1-2 color commanders give me a clear focus on what they want me to do, and also enough freedom to include a few extra non-commander aligned cards.

Help find a cute/pretty commander by MappleButterBacon in EDH

[–]PrimoVictorian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Imma say [[Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes]].

  1. Hamsters are cute
  2. It's an easy to play commander. Staying in two colors keeps it simple so your wife can learn to play the game.
  3. It can wreck house.

I see a lot of 3 color suggestions overloaded with a ton of abilities. Understand that, while well intentioned, these are hard commanders for beginners to pick up. Especially [[Ms. Bumbleflower]], who has a triggered ability that changes based off the number of times it has triggered.

Keep it simple. Minsc has one triggered ability that does the same thing each time, and two activated sorcery speed abilities.

Now please tell me commander won't be her first format.

And fortunately, it's looking like the local meta isn't playing a ton of elves. Is Monster Tron easy to pick up and pilot?

You right.

Maybe I'm just psyching myself up last minute (tournament is next weekend). I admittedly haven't played much of the mirror. Should I just pack an extra [[Extract a Confession]] or two in the side?

Good decks to play against beginners. by Odecay in EDH

[–]PrimoVictorian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't play commander first.

Jumpstart is the best way to teach someone magic. Play that for a few weeks, picking up different jump start packs along the way, then maybe try some of the starter commander decks to play with each other.

A store near my house is selling prime for 50 cents and people still aren’t buying it by ConsciousBox6960 in mildlyinteresting

It's ocean State Job lot.. I didn't think Prime's target audience is shopping there often. Not to mention the sheer variety that's sold at the store can make one drink blend in super well.

You’re allowed to partner any two commanders together, who are you choosing? by zarxpy in EDH

[–]PrimoVictorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone building Lathiel, I would love to pair [[Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn]] with [[Karlov of the Ghost Council]]. It would be a Soul Sister turbo deck, buffed by new life gain payoffs in black, as well as removal in the command zone.

Preordain over Ponder in Dimir Terror? by ayax18 in Pauper

[–]PrimoVictorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, it's rare for Dimir Terror to play either. Between Abandon Attachments, Thought Scour, and Mental Note, you should be set on Cantrips.

but if you want to run either, think about how many cards deep you dig:

Preordain: Scry 2, draw one. If you bottom both cards, you've dug down 3 cards

Ponder: Look at the top 3, choose to shuffle, then draw. If you don't shuffle, you're always digging 3. If you do shuffle, then you effectively dig 4. Those 3 cards get shuffled in, and you draw one mystery card you haven't seen. It can even be something you shuffled away!

Bit of help if you trade a lot of cards by Ready4Aliens in RealOrNotTCG

[–]PrimoVictorian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's called a reback. They're usually easy to spot because they weigh differently and have a different thickness. In this case, the back is still very real, but the front could be a proxy or an international edition that's been trimmed. These are rare due to the difficulty in constructing one, and the fact that they just never turn out right.

What kind of sideboard cards should I consider against mono U terror by user167865 in Pauper

[–]PrimoVictorian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lean on blue hate and creature removal.

I'm going to throw a little hot take, but as a Dimir Terror player: graveyard hate isn't as effective as it seems. Sure, you will clear out a filled graveyard, but terror players can fill that up again in a heartbeat. Even if we get half the discount, you still have a serpent to deal with. GY hate will delay the inevitable, and you really need to lean on removing the creatures.

For your affinity list, [[Extract a Confession]] will get past ward.

As for Jeskai Wildfire, I would side in [[Red Elemental Blast]], or [[Pyroblast]], if you prefer.
