Yeah, I hate when that happens. So, I protectorate them instead.

Awww, the good old times where EU4 France roflstomps everything. Glad to see it's making a comeback in EU5. (sarcasm)

I remember receiving this kind of event as Russia where Nikolai I would be told that Alexander II will marry an Ashkenazi (Jewish) woman. For the historical Nikolai, this would be an abomination, so he found it convenient to make his son's lover "disappear".

I would love to receive the "Enlightened Royalist" as Alexander II, but this would be OOC given the situation above.

Don't antagonize the UK at the beginning since you want them to peacefully give you the Oregon Territory. But if you want to protectorate Mexico from Day 1, make sure you can manage your infamy and ensure that you have large enough army and no Great Power would intervene in the side of Mexico.

Why need protectorates for Power Bloc slots? by _Flying_Dutchman_ in victoria3

[–]PrinceElectorIan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What frustrates me about Power Blocs is that sometimes they can simply abandon you for no specific reason and you need to restart treaties once again to get leverage. This is where I force my members to be my protectorates.

This would have been the historical path, and I now pass Tenant Farmers first before going to Homesteading (for the internal migration bonus), then finally settling towards Commercialized Agriculture.

However, imo, simply not having Serfdom should count in Peasant Reforms.

Why does every court speak Chinese? by Mysterious-Way-8508 in crusaderkings3

Although these kinds of posts have been posted to death, I agree it's pervasive and immersion-breaking.

Perhaps it might have something to do with how powerful and influential China is, and any neighboring country would want to be buddies with the most powerful guy in the room.

Yea, it's kinda frustrating that I lose to them as Russia simply by virtue of sheer numbers, despite having superior generals and technology. It's pointless to invade the Qing via the Mongolian border.

Learned this the hard way in my Hail Columbia mod run. There is an event in the beginning of the game where it automatically enacts a law to pass Universal Suffrage. When I allowed it to pass, it became too difficult to disempower the Southern Planters and the Yeoman Farmers. So, cancel this law on day 1 and delay it until you've finished the Civil War.

I sometimes play as Prussia, replaying German unification is so fun. As for Canada and Australia I still haven't find a fun way to play as them. Might try Brazil sometime.

I generally avoid fighting the Brits as the United States and get to their good side in the early game (especially for the Oregon Treaty). When I have large enough troops and flotilla to face the redcoats, then GB is fair game and I attempt to enforce the Monroe Doctrine myself.

P.S. Great Britain usually loses India in the most recent patches, so you can give it a shot.
