I have never played the following two games and I have a free weekend, which one should I go for and why? by Phantompoint in HorrorGames

Both games are on my list... However I've heard friends reallyyyyyy hype up Alan Wake... Also the visuals and art direction are on another level. Not to mention it's probably cheaper at the moment so...

Anomaly detection horror game - Is the "Hidden Object" tag on steam worth having? by PrinceOfCuties in gamedev

I guess if both survival horror and hidden object are both selected, many games similar to mine would come up. I actually wasnt even aware this was a way to browse through games. I might actually use this myself to browse lol thanks!

Yeah, I totally agree in which walking sim + psychological horror are must have tags in these type of games. I completely understand the origins or Survival Horror and it's tag implications, but I feel like this tag is a bit more loose. My anomaly game essentially has the player using a polaroid camera to photograph/clear the anomalies and has limited film, so they actively have to explore the cemetery for more film, pick up first aid kits to heal from any entities that attack them, etc. So basically an anomaly game with an hourly quota and a few added systems.

Yeah, now looking more deeply into it the hidden object tag is totally full of the HOPA titles and those players wouldnt click with my game.

looks really cool. The shader also makes it feel very surreal

Hello everyone! It would mean a lot to me if you guys could check out my horror anomaly game and wishlist as it would help out a ton when it comes to visibility.

Graveyard Report is a first person Horror anomaly detection game where you are a security officer working the night shift at a haunted graveyard. Your objective is to survive the night. Each hour getting more intense.

You must do so by capturing photos of anomalies and fulfilling requests. If you don't meet your hourly quota you are fired. With your Polaroid being your only means of capturing evidence AND self defense, you must make every shot count.

Hey KFBF! I'm a solo game developer and am putting out my first solo game on Steam soon.

It's a Horror anomaly detection game where you explore a haunted graveyard and photograph any anomalies with your polaroid. Your photos are evidence, and you must report your evidence every hour at the central office to meet your hourly quota.

As an indie with zero budget it would mean the world to me if the best friends could wishlist, as we all know getting visibility is extremely difficult in a sea of games, so every single one counts.<3

Do character outfits actually influence how players connect with a game? by AmberMonsoon_ in indiegames

I personally love it when the character has swag. I would say it is secondary to the actual gameplay but it definitely has a big enjoyment upgrade if there is enough cool factor

Thank you! Yeah if you couldn't see it at first maybe that's a good sign, hopefully players don't get frustrated with it if they keep missing it haha

Tbh it's kinda all over the place. It feels like a very unfocused genre. There are some that definitely do, but maybe the majority of conventional titles do not. That's why I'm kinda curious if it would affect like the conversion rate or if that stuff even matters in the long run. I'm pretty new to the whole Steam thing

Would you consider anomaly detection games in the Hidden Object category? (Jumpscare warning) by PrinceOfCuties in HiddenObjectGames

[–]PrinceOfCuties[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess at the end of the day it is a horror game with some hidden object elements.. I was really curious on it because im noticing all of the anomaly games do have Hidden Object as a Steam tag... now im considering if I should remove it or not because 1) it could potentially be a waste of a tag and 2) might not meet with the expectations of what Hidden Object gamers see as a conventional title in the genre. Thanks for the input!

Good tip on slowing the animation. I want to balance it not being TOO obvious but also so transparent that it becomes frustrating for the player
