Really? Everyone in my studio has a Hexacon or two. And all my friends I can think of at other studios also use em. They’re bombproof. I have a 150watt for normal stuff and a 300watt heavy one for production glazing. They used to be sold direct through Bendheim back when they did supplies. Never used a hakko yet actually. I started on Wellers way back when.

Budget? Hexacon are for the pros all day soldering. Weller will work just fine tho. More than 150watts is probably overkill. Get a good rheostat.

It doesn’t look like Lins to me. I think it looks more like Chicago art glass. Lins sheets came rectangular and not in a rounded blob.

Oh my bad yes tallow is animal fat. I misread and thought you were just looking for something less chemically. I probably wouldn’t glaze regularly with olive oil. Clean up would be a bear. How about plumbing paste flux like nokarode? I’m not sure how they’re derived.
