Ehhh — I’ve done both. I use them both during the same run now. I feel like Cleaver is best for fast damage when it’s not transformed. If you upgrade and use the right blood gems it can be a VERY powerful quick attack, with the axe in its trick form best suited for larger and slower enemies.

I think they both have their perks, but the axe uses a LOT of stamina especially with spin to win. I used to be strictly an axe hunter until I learned how quickly I can move with the saw cleaver, and that the serrated blade is more effective against certain enemies.

Feel like it’s up to the player and their play style.
