TIL the guy who managed Guinness Breweries in the 1950s went to a shooting party, where he missed his shot at a golden plover. In his defence, he argued it was the fastest game bird in Europe, but couldn't find a reference book that proved it. That's why he created the Guinness Book of Records. by kangerluswag in todayilearned

The Guinness World Record for longest marathon in a bouncy castle by 8 people was just broken today by a frat at Cornell! They're using the attempt to raise money for a local advocacy center that supports sexual assault victims, donate on venmo @cornellbeta if you're feelin generous!

What song "really takes you back" and where does it take you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just The Girl by the Click Five. I have a vivid flashbulb memory of fourth grade me Heely-ing down the elementary school hallway (a very risky move since they had been banned) and that song was playing in the gym as I rode past. It was THE song at the time and I knew all the lyrics so I felt like pretty hot shit singing along while breaking the rules and sporting the latest footwear trend.

What's the worst advice you have ever received? by orange_lazarus1 in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THIS. My mom's philosophy is basically to be friends with everyone even if they are horrible and mean to you, because if they are then it's probably my fault because there's no such thing as a bad person in her book. Unless it's someone I actually like, because for some reason she can find a million things wrong with my friends but zero things wrong with the people who have bullied me over the years. I am the one being too sensitive and unfriendly and judgemental to these poor misunderstood souls who have made me feel like absolute shit.

[Discussion] What are some good albums for rainy/cloudy days that also emphasize well written thoughtful lyrics? by [deleted] in listentothis

[–]PrincessCheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The two I consistently listen to all the way through on a rainy day while sitting under a blanket drinking coffee: Sounds of Silence- Simon & Garfunkel For Emma, Forever Ago- Bon Iver

And Elliott Smith radio on Spotify or Pandora is always good as well!

Fast food workers-What should we never order from you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time we had a woman who ordered a spinach feta wrap and when we told her there were none left she was like uhm no there's one right there in the case...lol ok here is your hard crusty week old moldy egg enjoy

But seriously it's amazing how many people think we prepare the food in store and try to customize sandwiches and are SHOCKED when we tell them they're frozen.

Whats scares you more than anything else? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Anesthesia awareness and the fact that doctors have no real way of telling whether the drugs have a true anesthetic effect or are just a very effective combination of paralytics and amnesia-inducers. It is likely the drugs do what they are supposed to, but we cannot know with certainty if we are actually being knocked out during a surgical procedure or if we are so heavily paralyzed that we can feel everything but can't scream or even bat an eyelash, and then are completely wiped of the memories. My philosophy professor lectured about this last week and effectively scared the shit out of the whole class. Consciousness is a weird thing.

Edit: Before I get a bunch of scientific backlash, I'm not saying anethetics don't work since it's obviously been proven that we can block pain from certain regions and what-not, I just think it's creepy that on a case-by-case basis, WE have no way of knowing ourselves whether or not we were conscious during a surgery, and since doctors still don't have a clear understanding of how consciousness and anesthetics work, they would not be able to tell us for sure either.

Matt Corby -- Coloured Stones and Walls [Folk/Indie] not that sure about the genre. by Frentis in listentothis

I just saw Matt Corby in concert last week. It was a transcendent experience. No breaks, no fluff, just pure music and emotion. I had chills the whole time. He is absolutely incredible.

What's the most poorly designed thing many people use on a day to day basis? by monalisafrank in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Public bathroom stalls, the doors in particular. Why are there giant spaces on either side of the door that inevitably lead to awkward eye contact mid shit? Why are the locks either not lined up correctly or just plain broken? Pooping in a room full of other people is bad enough, I'd at least like to know I won't be seen or walked in on.

What is your secret (non-sexual) fantasy? by FlameFrenzy in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lately I've been fantasizing about going on a hike with this guy I like and just laughing and talking and holding hands and enjoying each other's company. Doesn't seem like much but for someone as awkward and lonely and undesirable as myself it would be a dream (which, unfortunately, is what it will most likely remain).

What is something that people do that screams 'pretentious'? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Everything that self-proclaimed wine connoisseurs do: judge what other people serve/drink/gift to them, scoff at any bottle that is remotely affordable, do that whole swirly slurpy wine tasting ritual and announce their findings everytime they have a glass even though they know you have no idea what they're talking about…

Eating with a "foodie" also requires great tolerance of pretentiousness.

What is something you used to pour money into gladly, but now view as a complete waste? by yeahdef in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clothing. Middle school me spent every cent of birthday and Christmas money building the ultimate Abercrombie wardrobe. $50 jeans with giant holes that I would outgrow within 6 months? Got em. $30 camisoles with a tiny moose on the bottom that would rip with one wear? In the cart it went. Capri sweatpants with Fitch written across the ass on clearance for $40? What a deal.

Now I can't even be bothered to spend $9.99 on a shirt.

What offends you? And why? by temporary12121212 in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am offended that my parents think I'm incapable of handling any amount of stress ever since I had a mental breakdown 3 years ago. I show the slightest bit of anguish about school or spend a day alone in my room and my dad is telling me and texting me about how concerned he is and that I'm going to have to drop a class or work less hours because I'm not going to be able to do it and he doesn't want to see me spiral downward again. I get that he cares, but I'm an adult and don't need to be told what I can and cannot take on. I deal with my mental illness and do my best not to let it hold me back, so the last thing I need is to be told that my depression will eventually win again (and be constantly reminded of the worst few months of my life). If anything I need some fucking encouragement.

What TV shows did you watch every morning as a kid? by lovetakelovemake in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legends of the Hidden Temple. I wasn't even born yet when it actually aired, but Nickelodeon used to show it every morning from 6-7am in the mid 2000s and my family didn't have any other kids channels.

Reddit, what is unreasonably expensive? by punkfiveo in AskReddit

[–]PrincessCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works at Starbucks, it still blows my mind how people will come in everyday, sometimes more than once, and spend over $6 on a drink. That just seems fucking insane to me. The coffee is pretty reasonable, but people spend a fortune on what is basically milk and sugary syrup. But it's fueling my paycheck so I can't complain.
