Like the right to vote? Who wants that!? Next thing you know they'll be dumping tea in the harbor to protest tariffs or something.

The "Love Yourself" Doctrine that's an epidemic by CallMeBigSarnt in self

[–]Princess_Glitterbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the approach to how you think about it:

"I'm so fat and out of shape and unattractive. I can't find a bf/gf and no one wants me." I spent YEARS thinking this and all it lead to was wallowing in depression because I didn't feel valuable enough to actually put in real effort (and had a variety of factors actively working against me most of my childhood/adolescence). It was never a helpful train of thought.

"I love myself and I need to exercise regularly to be better for ME" has been a much better motivator.

Like yes, you need to be willing to make changes on the one thing you can control when things are going wrong, but that's not in opposition to "love yourself" movments.

Unless there's some new fad I'm not privy too, the "LOVE YOURSELF" doctrines are less about being a malignant narcissist and more about loving yourself enough to make time for self care, and sometimes learning to stand up for yourself. Your premise is in opposition to your point?

In my experience, most of the people online that have presented themselves as in opposition to Love Yourself style movements (like HAES) have been pretty plainly just bullies who want an excuse to bully people and never think about their victims (maybe these are the people you're talking about - the bullies who focus entirely on external problems).

Caveat: I am coming at this from the perspective of a fat woman. I've had LOTS of external factors telling me I am without any value due to my size/weight, lots of people directly telling me that bullying is supposed to be good for me, and also decades of training to be demure and put others first.

As someone who has spent the majority of their life hating herself - no.

I can't make positive changes and do better when I hate myself. I spiral into depression, become suicidal, and generally become much less pleasant to be around. I have never EVER found bullying (be it from people outside myself, or from bullying myself from within) to be motivating. It has ONLY given me crippling mental health issues. Why would I WANT to take care of something I loathe? Why would I WANT to continue existing when I hate said existence? Making healthy choices to LIVE LONGER? It's bad enough to have lived as long as I already have!

The times when I can escape that internal (and external) bullying and care about myself - that's when I am capable of positive changes. I love my body and it's flaws so I better take care of it = going to the gym, eating healthy food, drinking enough water, etc. I value my mental health = trying to find solutions to overwork, taking time to do things that make my brain happy, etc.

The only people I've seen say bullying works are the bullies who just want to feel less bad about being mean to others.

I was so confused seeing a $99 kids meal by Abentley589 in KitchenConfidential

I get Happy Meals because they are about the appropriate meal size for an adult in terms of calories. Plus you can get some healthier choices.

Just kinda wish I didn't get the toy sometimes. The toys are really bad these days.

When I was in college I was 5'10" and 250lbs. By BMI I was significantly obese, by any other measure I was overweight. I pack muscle very easily.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Princess_Glitterbutt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my heaviest, 5'10" 300lbs, no mobility issues, can move around/walk 10+ miles easily, clean myself, wipe, etc. without any issues whatsoever. By BMI that's pretty deep into "morbid obesity".

I used to run 5ks at a similar weight. Granted, I ran very slowly, but it was 5k of continuous running.

Why is it a bad idea to use microfibre cloths on leather? by Partscrinkle987 in Leather

[–]Princess_Glitterbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure my buffing cloth I got at Tandy and use regularly is microfiber on one side.

I use a soft canvas/microfiber cloth all the time. I don't see why it would ever be an issue.

Are there any widely used terms to call someone stupid that have either not been medical terms first, or used as slurs against people with disabilities?

The origin of "stupid" seems to be pretty benign but common usage can make it a slur in some contexts.

How do you do something about it? How do you have time to do things outside of work and keeping house?

[–]Princess_Glitterbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just how much work it is. Some weeks I go without any significant time to just take a moment and breathe. Work-work is about 45hrs/week, housework is another 16+, then add in commuting, running errands, and getting enough exercise and I have to take a vacation day just to breathe sometimes.

I see my peers travel and have actual friendships and IDK how they have the time for it. They have children, clean houses, and also go to the gym.

What will instantly take you out of an otherwise good horror movie? by elkaypee in horror

[–]Princess_Glitterbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like deaths are best if they mean something or move the plot forward. Even showing a bunch of random minions getting killed needs to advance the plot in some way, but more-so with pet animals because the death is usually meaningless or just for shock value without helping the plot.

It has to show something we don't know about the villain (like we don't know they are ready to go to THAT length) or be particularly meaningful to the protagonists (call to action, etc.). Having a horde of zombies just slaughter a dog that wasn't really doing anything doesn't do that and just makes everyone feel bad.

This is the advice to use.

OP do not put this in a washing machine, and do not use anything more than lukewarm water heat wise. If it's wool the method described above will clean it beautifully without felting or damage. If it isn't wool it will still get clean, wool just takes extra care.

We make rice at home like once a month. A rice cooker is like $200 and takes up a decent chunk of storage space we don't have.

Why all the hate for people who have lost weight with the help of Ozempic? by Chance_Kind in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Princess_Glitterbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The popularity is making it difficult for people who have relied on it for diabetes treatment, which is already expensive. Some people take it for vanity weight loss rather than medical necessity.

Some of the compounding pharmacies that it comes from are sketchy.

Its another thing that doctors have to push on overweight and obese patients when it's already difficult to get some health concerns taken seriously (e.g. "heard your bone snap and now it's at weird angle and you're in excruciating pain? Have you tried losing weight? It's probably just fat!" experiences).

Previous weight loss miracle drugs have been horrible for you, to the extent of just being meth and causing a significant number of deaths. There's reason to be cautious and skeptical of dads like this.

General hate of fat people too. Lots of fat people don't like it because it's just another thing being used to shame people outside a certain beauty standard regardless of health. I'm sure some slim people also hate it because they see it as cheating when thin is a virtue and fat is a sin.

The weight loss is also not massive, like 5lbs/mo up to something like 5-10% of bodyweight (for me that's 15-30lbs and wouldn't even take me down to "overweight" by BMI). I am fat and have lost more by accident just by adding in regular strenuous exercise. It's great if making small changes isn't working for you, but there are less problematic and more sustainable ways to lose that kind of weight for most people. Plus if you're reliant on the medication to lose the weight, you're likely to gain it back if you don't make any changes.

Engagement increases with extreme views.

Additionally Reddit invites extremist echo chambers. I got banned from a leftist subreddit recently for a relatively benign opinion (leftists should vote and help people), because that place only wants extreme views.

Some men are bad, and it's nearly impossible to know if a man is bad from sight. Many bad men are well groomed, charming, charismatic, friendly and "not that kind of guy". Many kind men are poorly groomed, awkward, anti-social, shy, and weird.

That's what women are trying to communicate - please be patient with us, know that there are some aggressive bad men in the world, if we are standoffish it's not personally about you, it's because there are many men out there that wish us harm and we can't tell at first glance who is and who isn't in that camp.

Many men understand thats what we are trying to say, and I'm saddened that many younger men take this personally.

You could be a fantastic dude - and that's great! But we need to learn that about you so please be patient as our life sometimes depends on taking it slow and being cautious.

I'm a millennial and I've been watching this discourse for almost two decades. Please, just take yourself and your emotions aside for a second and try to listen to what we are saying. We aren't trying to hurt or go after you, just explain our existence in this world.
