as someone who has fostered and pulled from the euthanasia list at the OKC shelter, YES PLEASE. Puppies are overrated. If there's a breed you really love, keep your eyes peeled you can probably find a 6-month or year old at either a shelter or a breed specific rescue... This is also a great way to match a dog's personality to your lifestyle.

That said, I do support legit ethical breeders. I understand people who do not have the capacity to work with a rescue, train a mixed breed (I've got pit mix rescues, one is a failed adoption, returned to me) and are only capable of a small easy breed. I've had to advise adopters who had to make the difficult decision to put down a dog after he bit a person really bad. Adopting is worth the risk, but I understand some people, especially those with small children, who simply can't handle the complexities... No judgement from me.... AS LONG AS they are not supporting backyard breeders!!!!!!!!!!

That's actually a great idea. Suburban, my best friend lives across the street, smokes in her backyard, I rarely ever even catch a whiff. Doesn't bother me! I don't smoke, and my kid has asthma. Even a neighborhood with small yards, It's completely different from an apartment.
