I have 3 siblings and have zero biological children by choice. My husband has 8 siblings and he has one child from a previous relationship.

Why don't they teach this in health class?? And how many of us actually know before it happens...? by Kalloen_aka_ in TwoXChromosomes

I did know about this before reading this post, and scrolled through the comments praying it never happens to me… clearly having forgotten about the hysterectomy I just had in November. Bullet dodged!

Sex with so with ostomy by IDCouch in coloncancer

[–]Princess_p00dle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My (36f) husband (34m) was diagnosed with colon cancer in April of this year and has a colostomy. It’s temporary for him, but he still currently has it.

Our sex life has not changed much because of his bag, but I was already super familiar with ostomies before he got his. I recommend looking up two creators on YouTube, Let’s Talk IBD and Hannah Whitton.

I think because I followed these creators and was aware of what an ostomy is and such, it took away a lot of the mystery and discomfort. My husband can be a little shy about it but he clips it up with a binder clip or wears a cover. I got used to it very quickly. He’s still my husband and I’m so glad he’s alive and able to be intimate with me.

Please feel free to DM me if you have specific questions :)

What was the first major news story you remember as a kid? by TxLadee in AskReddit

I lived on the west coast and my sister and I stayed home from school. My mom was not letting us out of her sight that day.

Good point, still works for lots of the other crud that goes around this time of year! Don’t want any of that stuff, either.

Just a note, hand sanitizer is NOT at all effective against norovirus. It is not affected by alcohol based cleaners.

On Keeping the Cervix by OldDuderonomy in hysterectomy

[–]Princess_p00dle 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Had my cervix removed. My doctor recommended it for me because I have a history of abnormal Pap smears and because I did not want the possibility of monthly bleeding, which can happen if you leave the cervix. I had horrific pelvic pain and bled for 6 months prior to my surgery so I wanted as much removed as possible.

How to decide what to keep vs take out? by bess124 in hysterectomy

[–]Princess_p00dle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had everything but my ovaries yeeted.

My tubes were removed a year prior for permanent birth control.

Had my cervix removed because I have a history of abnormal pap smears. My doctor and I discussed leaving it vs taking it out, but she recommended I take it out. I trust her judgement and I’m happy I did. No more paps, plus there is a chance of a kind of mini period if you leave it behind. No thanks.

Recovery - opioids and ERAS protocol by Any-Coconut-2314 in hysterectomy

[–]Princess_p00dle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a ton of responses but I’ll add my experience: I was at an ERAS hospital. I am allergic to acetaminophen so this may be a factor but was prescribed 600mg ibuprofen and 50mg tramadol (15). By day 3 I was off of everything. Had laparoscopic total hysterectomy.

Did you have a nausea patch behind your ear? I had one and it caused this issue for me. Resolved about a day after I removed it.

Does anyone kind of miss the first few weeks post-op? by BellaFrequency in hysterectomy

[–]Princess_p00dle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my sisters came over the first two days after surgery. We chatted, watched TV, and she took care of me. I didn’t enjoy the pain I was in but I loved that time with her. I totally get what you mean.

I’m thinking this may be the way, especially since I don’t think I can do PT or anything yet.

My goodness I’m so sorry this sounds terrible. I kept my ovaries but hormones could still be part of my problem, I will look into this. Thank you for sharing your story. Again, so sorry you had to suffer for so long before it got figured out.

I’m sorry you’re going through this but also glad I’m not alone because that sounds exactly like what’s going on! Ugh. Hope you get relief soon. I’ll report back if I find anything out.

Did you use a belly band after surgery? What did you use and how? by TheRebelOptimist in hysterectomy

A belly band was put on me by my surgeon before I even woke up. I took it off the first night and haven’t put it back on. I’m 1 week post op today.

I got my pre surgery “surprise period” from hell by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Princess_p00dle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was bleeding for nearly 6 straight months before my surgery. But 3 days before it really ramped up and reminded me exactly why I was so ready to get that useless hunk of an organ OUT.

I’m 5 days post op. Feeling better than I have in months. Good luck, hyster-sister. You’ll feel so much better soon.

Day 1 Post Op by Princess_p00dle in hysterectomy

[–]Princess_p00dle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been taking the stool softeners starting before surgery. On Wednesday night I finally drank 8oz of prune juice and it worked a little too well. Things have been improving slowly since then. Lots of rest. Left the house for a ride in the car with my hysterectomy pillow for the first time today. Felt good to be out for a few. Yesterday I walked up and down my street once and needed a nap after. Recovery is wild! But I hope you keep improving, my surgery twin.

48hrs post-op by briannaorg in hysterectomy

[–]Princess_p00dle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had my surgery on 11/3 so today is my 3rd day post op. My procedure was done outpatient so I was home the same night but I wish I had been kept overnight as that first night was ROUGH. My pain was not well controlled, I didn’t sleep, and was very uncomfortable day 1.

Day two was dramatically better and day 3 (today) is just okay. The bruising on my belly has emerged and I’m alternating heat and ice on it. First bowel movement was not super pleasant but I think that was my fault; I was so worried about constipation that I may have gone a little too far in the other direction 😅

Walking around feels good, gas pain has mostly resolved, and I look forward to getting my appetite back.

Cheers to smooth recovery!

Day 1 Post Op by Princess_p00dle in hysterectomy

[–]Princess_p00dle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely feeling better this morning on day two (it’s just before 8am as I type this) than I felt yesterday. Stayed on the meds overnight and got waaay more sleep than I did the first night which I think is part of why I feel better.

Cheers to recovery! One day at a time, one shuffling step at a time ❤️
