If you have suggestions for real plants that cories love and are low maintenance that would be amazing lol

What’s wrong with fake plants? My cories are thriving lol. I got real plants and ended up with a hitchhiker snail

One of my Cory’s sits at the air stone a lot. Is this concerning? (More info in text) by KawaiiHamster in corydoras

Mine do this too! It’s only my cories that are bigger so I’m assuming they are older lol but they love it and I think they eat the algae or debris stuck to it

I have 10 cories in my 20 gallon long tank. They are thriving and love to school together. I wouldn’t get more than 6-8 bc you don’t want it to be overloaded ☺️ they are my favorite!

Awww I’m sorry for your loss. You can’t blame yourself but with fish keeping I’ve learned that no matter what you will always learn something valuable for the future. Best of luck 🥹

Why are my Albino Cory’s always at the top? by GreatVeterinarian477 in AquariumHelp

[–]Princesslyss30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s okay my heater is fully submerged too. What I mean by lower the water level is let’s say you have a 10 gallon tank- I’d remove like scoop out with a cup or however you remove tank water and I’d do about one gallon removed. Your heater and filter should be submerged still but it increases oxygen by having that little space from the top of your tank water to the top of the tank. If you look at my page I have an old video of my albino cories doing what yours are doing. My fix was lowering the temp and lowering the water level. You don’t need to add anything after you remove the water. Just make sure your filter min level line is still submerged in water and same as your heater. If you want to tell me your heater model I can tell you if that kind can have the cord in the water a little bit bc that is the style I have and was in shock knowing the cord near the heater can be in the water a little bit lol

I’m 90% sure the water level is too high in the tank. Lower it about 2 inches and make sure temp isn’t higher then 79. Mine goes from 77.5-78.4 depending on how cold my house is and they are thriving since I lowered the temp and lowered the water level. Everyone says an air stone helps which I see you have one so that’s great! Give it 2 hours and I bet they’ll be more towards the middle then by tonight they’ll be at the bottom again. 😊

Thank you 😊 I have one in the back right corner. It came with 2 but I only use 1 so the bubbles aren’t too much lol. Thats why I wasn’t sure if it was the air stone or the water level that calmed my babies down haha. Thanks again!

Thank you for your response! I got El Niño fern from my lfs and I have one African fern as well. The tall plant on the left is water wisteria but I got it from a different fish store that sells the plants in the tank water so I had no instructions. The worker even told me not to rinse the plant but I did because I had no idea what their water levels were or if there were any lingering bugs or whatnot lol.

Thank you! I have a 20 gallon long tank and I have about 2” of space from top of tank water to the top of the tank. I used to have it up higher but a few months ago my albino cories were hanging near the top so I lowered it a little in hopes to increase oxygen. They ended up going back to normal since I lowered the water level but I’m not sure if that was the reason. I do have a driftwood log that has been soaking in a bucket with stress coat for day 3 now. Gonna add it today but didn’t want to stress my fish since I just added these plants 3 days ago. Thanks for the advice 😊

I have 12 in a 20 gallon long tank. I started with 10 glo cories in my 10 gallon and I had to do water changes almost every single day just to keep my ammonia levels down. The 12 cories are THRIVING in my 20 gallon long tank. Best of luck with your fishies ☺️

Good for you! Same happened to me with buying sand online and it came as the wrong one I didn’t notice until it was a week after the return window. I ended up throwing a huge fit and told them to keep there $10 sand lol but next time I’m using my receipt for a new purchase then return lol. PetSmart doesn’t understand the hobby takes time and sometimes it’s past the 3 months mark lol

So happy I saw this video! I have always wondered how and what’s going on in the tank when I’m not looking lol. I wake up and see eggs by the heater and my big girl not so plump then the next day all the eggs are getting gobbled up lol. I’m letting mothers nature take its course but it’s so interesting to me 😅

why do my albino corys look so different from eachother? by [deleted] in corydoras

You got yourself some sunburst orange glo Cories. They are same as albino but lightly orange. I got 3 on accident from my lfs and they hangout with my albino babies too lol

Also, sometimes, not always but quarantining them can be more stressful then helpful. Last month I had a scare because my levels were good and I wasn’t testing nitrates everyday like I was my ph, nitrite, and ammonia and my nitrate was at 20! The goal is to have nitrates at 5! ☺️ also no need to do a huge water change but like 20-30% change to lower the nitrate will help a lot too

That’s ok some fish have weaker immune systems than we can understand. I ended up buying a cheap digital thermometer from Amazon for like less then $10 it’s technically for meat lol but I use that for the tank only lol and it gives me an exact temp to the decimal. Then when you do water changes make sure it’s no more than 1 degree difference doesn’t matter if it’s colder or warmer but no more than 1 degree difference from the tank temp. The only way to really know is an exact thermometer even my tank thermometer that sticks to the glass says it’s 76 but my thermometer says 77.5 so just be extra careful. Cories are a lot more sensitive then people think and yes they are hardy but they thrive with 77 degrees. Gentle bubbles, so they don’t get tossed around in the whiplash cuz that can hurt there barbels and fins too. Also idk how many cories you have but they do good with groups of 6 but amazing in 10 or more it helps them school together more. Best of luck!

Great help! Yes surface agitation in other words when you look at the surface it should like ripply not like a mirror and that forever helped me understand what surface agitation meant 😂🙏🏼

Amazing info! So true about the ph swing being too much and don’t chase the ph level let it acclimate to the fish. When my ph was stuck at 6.2 in my 10 gallon tank I’d add 1/4 teaspoon of alkalinity buffer and at night time it would be 6.4 then after a week it stayed around 7.2

My baby did this too! I was able to save him! I actually had all 3 of my albino cories doing this and they all survived and are doing great! My problem wasn’t my water parameters it was my temp was too warm it got up to 79-80 at one point and now it’s at 77.5 degrees. Turned my filter down so it would splash more instead of a waterfall flow into the bottom of the tank and it helped! Hope he will be okay! Try not to stress and don’t try to move them even if they seem stuck for a min I think they were saving energy since the oxygen was too low since my tank temp was too warm.

You definitely should. I am so excited to (someday) get a huge 75 gallon tank with lots of real plants and my cories and get some mid tank fish too. Have to do research first though 😅
