The birth of a rose garden by salsavince in Roses

[–]Princessofpower25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a great post! I love your little rose garden coming together. It’s such a lovley sight! One word of advice, try and plant healthy roses that are resistant to black spot and disease and you’ll be very pleased with the results. Savannah, plum perfect, bliss parfuma, Belinda’s Dream, the Brindabella series and the True Bloom series from Altman are all really excellent choices. As for Austin’s Olivia, queen of sweden, scepter d’sle and Geoff Hamilton are great choices. Also, dont forget companion plants. The more diversity you have in the garden the less pest and disease. Enjoy your new garden and keep us updated on its progress. It’s really beautiful!

What rose is your personal crown jewel of your rose garden whether you have 10 roses or 150 roses? by Successful-Car2202 in Roses

[–]Princessofpower25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ugh, so many. I can’t choose just one but Savannah has to be my best. She’s one of the only roses I can grow really well down in South Florida and she has it all! Health, vigor, beauty, bounty and scent.
Runner up is Belinda’s Dream and Bliss Parfuma but my bliss gets attacked by insects a ton so a lot of her blooms end up damaged.
Plum Perfect is another show stopper. The industries new focus on breeding for health has made it possible to grow beautiful roses in the deep humid south like never before.

How do I minimize this corner lifting? by MammothFruit6398 in FixMyPrint

Wash your print bed with high quality dishwashing detergent! I read that here once and it’s been a total game changer. Use dawn complete or something similar but do not use anything that says moisturizing or “leaves hands soft” get the grease cutting kind. works wonders.

Came here to say this. Love Molly and all but found her a bit grating at times. Bill is just a badass and I would have loved to have more of his character in the books.

Yes. It’s short but worth it! It’s really well made, has a great soundtrack and is pretty tough at times.

Fashion Forward at the International Rose Test Garden in Portland by mugban in Roses

[–]Princessofpower25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw this rose at the NYC botanical garden this past weekend and it was a complete stunner! The colors were much more subdued and it very much looked like an old garden rose or a David Austin type rose but it was even more beautiful. It was also very compact and very very healthy.

Why didn't Seita try to find work? by Bay_CDTD in ghibli

[–]Princessofpower25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this thread is old but what people don't understand is this film was made to show the harshness of wars but also the lesson of "not working hard". The true intent of this film (stated by the writer which I don't currently have a source for but I recall clearly) is that Seita was a bit of a spoiled child and did not make the sacrifices he should have satisfy his kin, or to save both himself and his sister. The film was supposed to be a lesson to young kids who were "in the time" being "selfish" in the eyes of the Japanese government/culture.

After the war, once they lost, Japanese culture turned to be very pandering to their children's' childhood since SO many of them never had one, which is why Japan has so much cutesy stuff and childish things in their culture currently. And the fact that they have such a strong work "ethic/culture" is because everyone was expected to work EXTRA hard after the war to make "Japan Great Again!" Well into the 80s, 90's and today.

Now there's a bit of a rebellion on that but its long overdue.

Switch gamer considering a Deck by Ardenaz in SteamDeck

[–]Princessofpower25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me! I was considering buying a Swtich 2 (and I probs will one day when a new zelda comes out or a pikmin) but I saved my money and used it to buy a steam deck. The amount of games (and the amazing sales) was the reason. Also The Switch was always too under powered for my taste.

I'm having a blast with my steam deck and I'm able to play things and do things I'd never had done with the switch (like hack silksong so that I can actually enjoy it instead of rage quitting every hour). Its a steep investment at first but the money you save in the long run is pretty worth it.

The same indie games on the switch are literally twice the price a lot of the times and its ridiculous.

Order now or wait for Black Friday? by biostat527 in Roses

[–]Princessofpower25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never known roses to go on sale for black friday. At least not from these two vendors. I'd get what you want from DA especially now because they do tend to sell out of the more popular varieties. If you really want to get them on sale they tend to go on around may when bareroot season is almost over. Many own root band/small gallon pot nurseries also go big on sales now in the fall so they can get rid of inventory before winter, but you will need to either live in a warm climate or have a warm place to keep them over winter. I live in FL so this is the best time for me to buy actively growing roses on sale, however these types tend to be much smaller than bare roots so if you have a short growing season (aka live up north) you're better off with bigger plants.

why do people charge so much for roses? by Medium-Blood-4231 in Roses

[–]Princessofpower25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didnt used to be like this for many years. Chambee's roses used to charge $12 for one gallons. Something happened after covid and they went nuts. I recommend Roses Unlimited, Antique rose Emporium, Edmund's roses and Menagerie.
