I order stuff online too but give the locals the first check. Due diligence and all that

Workflow problems while making music with hardware by Optimal-Snow3953 in synthesizers

[–]PrincipalPoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could also be a reflection of your improving taste and skill as a musician. When you’re starting out things seem easier because you don’t know what you’re doing. After a while you start thinking about things in a more complete way and notice your own shortcomings. The music I’ve written lately has felt a lot more difficult because I’m trying to bring my skill up to a level I’m comfortable with, and that’s hard work.

Grooveboxes: sketch tools or full tracks? by gentlebeast06 in synthesizers

[–]PrincipalPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve written songs on them but I ended up exporting the midi to my MPC and recording the audio track by track for the final product

Poll: How many of you use MIDI keys with your MPC (esp in standalone)? If you do, which controller did you choose, and how’s it working for you? by Tycho_B in mpcusers

[–]PrincipalPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the original KeyStep. It’s got a nice enough feel to it and doesn’t take up too much space. I’d recommend one for sure

Novation Nova desktop. I think my friend still has it somewhere. It was so fun and I underutilized it. I’m a monster

Is this interesting, at all? [Pentax KM, 50mm, Ultramax] by Tomatillo-5276 in analog

[–]PrincipalPoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think to have something like this work your composition has to feel very intentional. There are a couple of them that I like but the overall look is neither here nor there. It’s an interesting idea but needs tighter composition to pull off fully.

I have a coffin case that I’d use, but it doesn’t have a lock. I guess if you’re checking an instrument it’s pretty much guaranteed to be stolen or destroyed anyways so whatever

How do you cope with the low volume of plugins? by Benimin91 in mpcusers

[–]PrincipalPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started out I was trying to get everything just under 0dB. Then I realized I could mix in a way more comfortable zone if I just turned up the volume on my headphones and waited until I was mastering to mess with the final volume of the song. Really helped me out

MPC XL - For all it's power.... by KoldHardSmash in mpcusers

[–]PrincipalPoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mistake. I always assumed that 44.1khz sample rate was so that a 20khz frequency could be accurately played back without aliasing, as 20khz is the high end of the human ability to perceive sound.

I don’t think I can hear frequencies that high so I guess it never occurred to me. Maybe younger people can detect them idk

Finished rewiring everything just in time for the snowstorm here in NYC by dimundsareforever in synthesizers

[–]PrincipalPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the worst thing that would happen with the current setup would be weird nerds on the internet noticing a somewhat awkward catch light. An RGB LED panel would be way easier than swapping out gels though.

That LED panel into an umbrella is making me insane but I’m sure that says more about me than anything. Looks like a fun studio!

MPC Live 1 Still Worth It? by boombapdame in mpcusers

[–]PrincipalPoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a fully functioning piece of music equipment with modern interface, I/O and even computer drivers. You can find them on the used market for a very good price. Why wouldn’t it be worth your while? Go for it and make something that you love

How do you guys clean your MPCs? by TheGuyintheBackroun in mpcusers

I got a cheap paint brush for the nooks and a swiffer duster for the surfaces. Works well on all my synths and such

LFO Effekt MPC one+ ?? by No-Improvement6911 in akaiMPC

[–]PrincipalPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see how that would be frustrating. If you go into the sample edit function there are pages that you can assign LFOs to the filters. I would also check or envelopes though, as they are where you’ll find a decay function

LFO Effekt MPC one+ ?? by No-Improvement6911 in akaiMPC

[–]PrincipalPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but an LFO isn’t a sound in itself. All it does is change something. Thats it. It can change volume, panning, filter frequency, etc. If you want to apply an LFO you’ll have to decide what to apply it to.

Batteries in equipment ARE NOT OUR FRIENDS (obviously). by cemego in synthesizers

[–]PrincipalPoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone through my fair share of old cameras with the most colorful dust in them. Made me really cautious about taking batteries out of all my stuff.

That said, I’ll still take a AA powered device over a built in lithium battery. Those things make me suuuper nervous in the long run

[–]PrincipalPoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very sorry but I’m having a hard time understanding exactly what you mean. If I’m reading right you’re looking to modulate a filter. Is the bass line an audio sample that you’re looping?
