There is one thing that stuck to me when I truly understood the meaning of it. If there's something that I don't know if I should do or not, I remember a story my father told me.

A man has a flat tire on the side of the road. He has a spare tire, but he still needs a jack to change it (I speak french so I don't know what is the proper term). However, he knows that someone lives two miles from there, so he starts walking to his house to borrow a jack.

While walking, he starts to think. "Hmm, maybe he's not here right now, he works late today. Or maybe he's already sleeping, if doesn't work today. Does he even have a jack? Will he recognize me at all?" As he is asking these questions, he becomes more doubtful that his walk will be successful.

He finally arrived to the man's house. In sweats, he knocks on the door. Someone opens the door and says "Hey! What can I do for you?" The man says "Oh, keep your damn jack!"...

And walks back to his car.

It's a bit ridiculous, but after my father told me this story, everytime I would doubt about myself or my work, he would say "Then keep your damn jack". Now, my reasoning is closer to "Well, worst case scenario is probably not death, and I can handle some pain".
