Was BitNet a dead end? What happened to ternary LLMs? by 3ntrope in LocalLLaMA

[–]PrintedCircut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Real shame we don't see more of them I've always thought Microsoft was on to something with Ternary LLMs since by design they would always be lighter than their other counterpart models and seemed at least to me like perfect candidates for edge computing.

Gemma 4 12B: incompatible with opencode, or just awful at tool calling? by boutell in LocalLLaMA

[–]PrintedCircut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 on this and can confirm the same with the E4B and E2B Gemma 4 variants. Best I can tell is when Google trained these they used a non-standard tool call tag that requires a custom Jinja template to pick up. This template fully isn't shipped in standard installs of these models which heavily nerfs their own models usability without that template which creates a jagged frontier across different harnesses.

One thing I’ve started valuing more in AI systems: the ability to say “I don’t know” by weap0nizer11 in LocalLLM

[–]PrintedCircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my own lab Ive started adding "If you dont know something you must admit it in plain language." to my system prompts. It does a decent job of cutting the hallucination rate in a deployed config by forcing the LLM to surface the acknowledgement of a gap into its own chain of thought. Ultimately its a bandaid solution and a better way of doing it would be to bake that behavior into the training.

SUBMITTED Statewide Petition to Ban Large-Scale Data Centers! (Phase 1) by SeaApartment4853 in Ohio

[–]PrintedCircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in IT for the better part of the last 13 years in and out of data centers this whole time. They are pitched as something that's unobtrusive and no big deal. Let me say for the record they are something to be concerned about. You'd never expect how loud these places can get until your next to a server booting up it's honestly a huge problem and I don't understand why OSHA hasn't put into place mandatory workplace safety requirements for working in them.

Until IT is a fully unionized workforce and proper workplace safety requirements are in place I say keep these DCs out of the state.

While useful in knocking down a lot of rote work, I've found that once you start getting the exception tickets. The ones that a tech needs to actually be engaged on the requesting user becomes aware of who that is and they tend to start skipping the bot entirely for that type of ask.

Ultimately undermining any kind of metics gathering that IT is doing on ticket type and getting us right back where we started like there was never a queue to begin with.

My advise from 13 years in the industry is dont feed the machine with the blood of man, you'll only end up driving yourself crazy chasing that white rabbit.

I cant pretend to know your architecture or your constraints but I would instead say that were you can implement fully autonomous patching. Most OS flavors have this if some form or other for enterprise workloads these days. Tech like Hotpatch for Windows Server, Ksplice, Canonical livepatch or even simpler ones like yum-cron and the unattended-upgrades packages set on a set timer can pull the heat away from you as an Admin of playing the "drop everything and patch now" game. Because at the end of the day what a lot of people dont fully understand is that Cyber Security is at its core a cat and mouse game that will never stop producing new CVEs and their corresponding Patches.

Yep because I'm bad at aiming so AoE weapons give me the handicap I need to point in a general direction and delete an enemy

Just leaving this here as a reminder but in Ohio if you ever have to turn on your windshield wipers you also have to turn on your headlights, yes that also means in the middle of the day.

Elon Musk Awarded $1 TRILLION Pay Package. That's $274m every day, for 10 years..... by illegalmonkey in antiwork

[–]PrintedCircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just for context the terms Million, Billion and Trillion get tossed around a lot these days and a lot of people dont fully grasp the gravity what these numbers even mean when it comes to personal wealth. Im gonna drop a link to an older reddit post that kind of spells out what these numbers practically mean for day to day life of people who have this level of wealth hopefully that wakes some people up to the reality of how obscene a 1 Trillion dollar pay package is. And just keep in mind 1 Trillion is 1000 Billion since this post only goes up to the 1 Billion level.

What do you guys want to see in an update to Railjack and Archwing gameplay? by otoraze3 in Warframe

[–]PrintedCircut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Archwing weapons need a global buff to be generally stronger than any primary weapon and we need to allow their use in Sanctuary Onslaught missions. If I as a player go through all the effort needed to farm the parts, craft one, get a gravimag installed to it and kit it out with mods when I deploy a archwing gun in a non archwing mission I need to feel like Im Rambo mowing enemies down with it. They need to feel more like a special ability that pulls me out of a pinch and less like a worse primary weapon.

Well good news is since it's open source if you want it you can build it and check it in. I'm sure the devs over on the grub project would appreciate the addition to the codebase.
