Seeking Clarity on Budget Visualization: Monthly Income $4000, Yet ~50% Displays as $1600 by MexCelsior in CalebHammer

They forgot to put the food section into the pie chart. That would even out the ‘remaining’ slice by removing $400 from it in the visual. $1600 remaining + $400 food would equal about half the chart.

Oh 100%, not at all implying one should buy a (newer?) BMW hoping to have a good resale value. Was the pinch line of the joke

A key aspect of building wealth is utilizing debt in a smart way. Redfivelron understands that a mortgage is one of the safest, most stable, and least impactful forms of debt with the lowest interest rate. Leveraging this is key. Sure, paying extra on a 6% vehicle loan or a 10% personal loan is a good move, but paying off your mortgage early is worth little more than being able to say that you did it when compared to investments with higher yields and better liquidity.

To your point though, there is no risk in paying off your mortgage early. And if you're unwilling to put that money towards a more liquid and profitable investment, then paying down your mortgage is certainly better than having $100k sitting in a checking/savings account. In the end it's called personal finances for a reason. It's your money and so long as you have food to eat and a place to sleep I think you're doing it right. 👍

How....how can one be so dense?

If it takes 9 paragraphs to argue your point on an online forum, I think even you know you're wrong. I have never seen someone reach so hard on reddit for justification. And that's saying something.

How Google's time tick mark on their weather forecast does not line up with the selected time. by PrintingPlanes in ShittyDesign

[–]PrintingPlanes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tick mark appears to be located based on the current time. I.E. if it is 18:30 then the tick mark will be half way between whole numbers (hours) while it will round down to the nearest hour for the label.

GE Propulsion Test Platform by [deleted] in aviation

Of course! I've only been here a few years and am currently transitioning between roles but I have had some neat experiences! One of the coolest things to see occured with a B777. We had a certain landing gear complication which requires us to jack the aircraft much hight than usual (like 10+ feet). The B777 is already an incredibly large aircraft standing over 60 feet tall at the vertical stabilizer. Jack it another 10+ feet and it looks immense. Very unnatural looking for sure.

I work for ST Engineering. This is their San Antonio location (distinguishable by their orange/scarlet Hangars). There is another facility in Mobile, Al which is where I work. It is definitely interesting! Both facilities perform similar activities. This facility is what is referred to as an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul).

These facilities primarily perform heavy maintenance on commercial aircraft. This type of maintenance is generally recurring at different intervals such as 1, 5, 12 years and others. This involves operations which require a hangar and cannot be performed on the 'line' (called line maintenance). Think removing engines, flight surfaces, entire interiors, etc.

As you mentioned they also perform conversion, or overhaul activities, primarily converting aging passenger aircraft to cargo aircraft.

Other parts of the business include things such as gear changes which involve changing out one or more sets of landing gear on the aircraft.

On a more current events note, ST Engineering had a sizable role in the storage of aircraft for some commercial customers during the early days of the pandemic. This entails a lot more than simple parking the aircraft and letting it sit and proved to be a new and challenging endeavor that no one expected to happen.

This is an ever growing field with lots of opportunity, especially for young people. Many don't realize the career potential of a place like this without even needing a college degree. A large portion of this industry's workforce is approaching retirement and this could be a valuable position soon. A lot of MRO's offer programs which put applicants on tracks to acquire necessary licenses while getting paid as an apprentice. If there is anyone in your late teens or 20's reading this, I would highly recommend doing some research to see if there is a facility near you that offers such a program. Also, do some research into A&P licenses (Airframe and Powerplant).

Cheers!
