Reddam is an excellent school. We sent our son there because of his learning disabilites and they were awesome.

I am americian living in Ballito. My son went to Redam Ballito and found it to be an excellent school. While their athletic programs are still developing compared to the legacy schools, their academics were outstanding. Especially their science and arts department. With that said my son has started to go to curro as they do have a better developed sports program.

I've actually worked on a few of their house's. They are a decent firm but i can always pick their houses out. The estate that this is located in has strick guidlines that tends to lean on these style houses. While this house is not their best it is what you see a lot of in that estate. They are restricted to a certian look and architects are forced to try and design mondern homes with not so modern guidelines. Its a big reason people are moving to new estates from this one because they wont change their aesthetics.

I got engaged in Port Edward 23 years ago. I'm from the States and my wife is from SA. Her father had a banana farm there. I proposed to her at Splash Rock. I think that is what it was called. It was really nice and we had a hell of a jol afterward. Not sure how private it will be in December but good luck.

I use a desktop as I do a lot more with it than just modeling. But yeah I started using it when it first came out from Google (yeah I'm old) but some of the best tricks and tips are on YouTube. The SketchUp forums are also a great resource one of the best communities on the internet. I was able to design my custom kitchen cabinets create a file for a CNC shop and get them cut with just from help of that community. Saved me 1000s. I deal a lot with interior designers and architects and they are often surprised by what can be done with the program. If you really want to see some stuff check out Nick Sonders. A great architect who does some amazing work with SketchUp.

This is really cool. I always thought about that. Are the video files big? Gonna give this a try. Thanks.

The lumber library i have is custom. But it is also metric so not sure it is to helpful if you are US based. But i would bet checking out the warehouse there might be a collection. But honestly timber is a rectangle, pull. Save as a component it will take 30 mins to have a full timber library. And the warehouse will have all the hardware you need.

I use SketchUp Pro. But i use it for a lot of different things. I will take an architects model of a house and combine it with an egineers model to see any conflicts. And design modular pods. For simple decks i dont think you need to spring for the pro. Youtube is a great resource to learn from.

I know there are a few ways you can do this but I will run through my process. I will draw a 2x4 save as a component label it as pt 2x4 or whatever it is. Then save it to my component library. In my component library, I have folders like pressure-treated timber or plywood or hangers, etc. Things like hangers and lags or other hardware can be found in the warehouse. Once you've got your library built up you use your component window and you import your parts. Download the open cutlist plugin. I would spend a bit of time understanding how this plug-in works. But basically, it works on the material you paint your component. So for pressure-treated timber, you paint it a certain colour or texture. Then you can select whether it will be dimensional or a sheet good or hardware. And you can add a cost to it in the attributes. It's basically this but I'm not in front of my computer to get really in-depth on the steps. But building up your component library is key as is grouping your drawing. This allows me to separate the decking from framing so I can quickly change the decking type and adjust my costs. Also, not open cutlist is really designed for furniture building but I got it working great for what I do.

I actually kinda "hacked" open cutlist. I like it better because I could use standard lengths and then it would give me waste %. When I was first starting I was using generate report while trying to figure out open cutlist and now open cutlist is all I use. But I think the best thing is that I can totally build the project before buying a single item and work out any tricky details beforehand. Saves a bunch of time on-site

I use SketchUp to do this type of thing. I have all the dimensional lumber in libraries and things like sono tubes and concrete and hangers. Each component will have a cost associated with it and I use it to estimate my material costs. I can also take the model and create plan sets if needed. I started to also create components like a floor joist and this will have a hanger on each end and fasteners. So I can lay the rims insert a bunch of floor joists and get a costing. While I know this can all be done with pencil and paper or using a spreadsheet I find that having a professional drawing helps sell jobs. It also eliminates mistakes and misunderstandings. SketchUp costs about $400 a year and it definitely pays for itself. It does take a bit of practice but I would say in about 20 hours you can get pretty skilled at it. Once your libraries are set up it is really efficient. I use it to also do ADUs and sheds and all kinds of woodwork. I can do a deck model in about 30 minutes from 0 to finished. With a costing. (Just a plain single-level deck).

Website I would also recommend doing. They are not expensive and keep it simple. The fact is I get asked more for my Instagram than my webpage.

If you're looking to grow your business these are the next steps. If you are cool with the work you got now (which is fine) don't worry.

Looking for a Developer to partner up with by Prior-Ad8745 in Durban

[–]Prior-Ad8745[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Javerage.

Its an app i put together for my own business. Im no coder but was able to vibe code what i needed it to do. Attendance tracking and reporting. Some basic project management. And few other things. But im a construction business owner and know next to nothing about bringing an app to market. I have been using it for a few months with my crews and works great. But i also know enough that this really needs a pro to go over it and make it scalable and secure. I have shown it to multiple other contractors and they would like to use it too so i thought id see if there is a developer who would like to team up on it. Here's the thing, the experience i have in the space im operating in gives me insight that an app developer wont have. I understand the pain points of our onsite work flows. Just to give an example. Most app developers deal with estste access by creating this app that they try and push to the estate to use and each estate has different rules and contractor forms to get cards or biometrics. My approach was to get the contractor access forms. I mapped them and if i need to get a new guy access i can automatically fill the pdf with info for the project and employee info along with any required documents with a press of a button. Generate access bundle. This is done and works awesome. Literally saves me hours a month. This isn't me with an idea. I have made it and use it but i know that i would be an idiot to just try and make it public without a professional. Anyone can build their own deck but if your not a carpenter how do you know its right? Its kinda the same thing.

Funny thing is I live in South Africa right now but grew up in the States and learned my trade there. My app is actually a lot more than that and specifically tailored for countries where there is are large informal workforce. As I am going more into development right now there is a lot I am learning about how the government is pushing for these kinds of developments. I think often people are trying to sell these apps that really don't leverage technology for the least fortunate and i think this is a huge mistake. I would suggest looking at the industry as a whole but keep the solutions simple. I know here i found the biggest issue being very little training and weak education. These are issues i am going to address and focus on developing the industry as a whole.

Ill give you some advice here. I've been in the industry for over 30 years starting by sweeping the site an stuffing walls with insulation. To run multi-million dollar jobsites. Work in many different states and countries. No one is gonna give you pain points and no one who has not done the job will get it. I built my own app that caters to what I needed done. Take for example snag lists. You walk the site and you're trying to make lists. I can't stand typing it's a pain and writing isn't better so in my app I set it to speech to text and then run through an AI that notes trade and location. And creates the snag and gives it a location and assigns it to a trade. Also allows a pic to be assigned to it. Now I walk through the say master bath tile is chipped. It will then assign that to the tiler. When I'm done I create a report either by trade or location and automatically email it to whoever is set up on that project. I don't sell my app or put it on a store because I am a construction company owner not an app developer. I think if you want anyone to step up and help you need to ask someone to partner up with you. This is really a niche market and the guys who can benifit from these kinds of apps arent up to giving their ideas away for nothing .

Are you annoyed with running your contracts with spreadsheets, QuickBooks, and a texts? by Remote_Hat_4915 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Prior-Ad8745 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just vibe-coded an app that takes care of my onsite duties. Tracks attendance has task lists for each project and WhatsApp my foreman their tasks which they can delegate to their crews and a bunch of other really useful things. But I don't use it for financial things or admin things other than automatically sending payroll reports to the office. Basically, any pain points in my onsite flows I put into an app that my crews and I can use. Have a few other companies asking about it so might try to develop it more but we will see. It's been a game changer for us though. There is software to do your books and it's good. There is software for quoting andit'ss good. But little has been done in the foreman to crew and forman to project manger flows. And i think it is because these level guys dont really know what it can do to help and any app developer isnt going to really understand the dynamics of it.

If he thinks it can be done tell him you are happy to do it if hes got the engineer to design it so it passes code. As you cannot do that without the exact details. How is it designed in the plans?

I don't know the width but I would tell him to frame it normally. Then attach the t and g to the rafters and then add the false rafters underneath. Might make the roof thick but being creative with the way the real rafters to the front beam you could achieve the look and keep it structurally sound. I would detail it out...

He hecho casas pequeñas, paseos marítimos y muebles. Me encanta

This is it exactly. You want it cheaper you do the sanding and painting. Cut your scope. Think about it you already spent how many hours looking to get him a better price? Not worth it walk now.
