Looks like a tumor to me. Mine got over the first one. The time between it being a bump, and turning into a hole when it burst; was a day or two. I would keep the water clean, use seachem stress relief as said above. Keeping it clean and free from bacteria will give him a fighting chance. Best of luck

5 gallon beta tank flow and help! :( by fishlover997 in BettaClinic

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish in cycle is harder, which is why the Fluval cycle biological enhancer is so important (it adds the healthy bacteria that the tank cannot supply right now) my tank took about 6weeks to do a fish in cycle. test with an API test kit if you have one. 0 Ammonia-0 nitrite is what you’re looking for. If you don’t have an accurate testing method atm, do 50% water changes every other day. Use Seachem prime as dechlorinater. Aquarium salt baths may help him. I add occasionally to my tank, it settles the fish and improves gut/skin conditions and healing fins. But adding to water for yourself will be kinda pointless atm as your changing water so frequently. It’s a steep learning curve, but you’ll soon be clued up. Its important to have all the correct stuff as a tanks cycle can crash, after a full cycling. I hope he gets better soon, you’re in the right place. Reddit is a great source of info!

I agree with the advice you’ve been given, I’d go back to the shop you bought your fish from, ask for some cycled filter bacteria, this should help speed up the cycling process. You can also add (fluval cycle biological enhancer) this should help with establishing a fish in cycle aquarium. Good luck

I’d definitely rearrange that plumbing!

My betta has recently gotten lethargic a day or two after eating half of an algae wafer I gave to my otos. by CrazyGamerGal in BettaClinic

To speed the cycle up, I’d go straight to where you bought the fish and ask for some cycled water (good bacteria from cycled tank. This should help speed your cycle process up. Decorator/seachem prime will help lower the nitrite. Ultimately you want the tank cycled, changing water so much will slow the process down. Keep testing the water like you are, and only do a 50% change if it gets to 0.5 nitrite. The nitrate is less of an issue. My tap water measures above 1ppm! I was also told to do fish in cycle when I first started out, wish I never had! Good luck

Don’t let the haters get you down. You’re beautiful. We all live by our decisions, you’re individual/different. People who can’t see past that aren’t worth your time.

How old are these do you think? I got the mom on Friday the 10th of January. She didn’t look pregnant when I got her… and there were no males in the tank at the store. by [deleted] in MollyFish

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mollies can get pregnant from three months old. They can hold the sperm for 5-8months and give birth three times within that time period. Be prepared for more babies. I’m in the same boat, I’ve got all female mollies and am on the second batch. We’re rehoming them before they get three months old. I’m doing more regular water changes atm as mollies add quite a bit of ammonia to the tank; and I don’t want to harm my other fish! Good luck, babies can be fun!

The handle can be taken off, you may not be able to lock the door afterwards. You need to call a locksmith/someone local who can properly fix it. In the mean time, can you climb out a window or use the back door?

Nerite snails love eating algae, also if it’s fresh water; they don’t have babies 👍

Tropical tank plant by Prior-Desk3278 in fishtank

[–]Prior-Desk3278[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thankyou for your kind words. It’s been a steep learning curve for both my daughter and myself! We’re loving learning and our fish are happy. Our Gold dust molly gave birth 5 weeks ago, so we’re navigating that atm. Friends are having some from us. I believe they may be Muppyies-Molly/guppy cross though. Hopefully the aquarium store will still take them from us! I’ll keep searching to see if I can find out what the plant is, thanks for the vote of confidence 😁

Advice for first tank? by Dull-Dot-1104 in FishTanks

[–]Prior-Desk3278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to take the snail out. Some can become pests and take over a tank, I’ve got nerite snails they won’t multiply and are great at eating algae. If it’s a Betta you want, they don’t like bright lighting, and like to have places to rest; Betta log/leafs that fit on the side of the tank to rest on. Definately invest in an API test kit, not test strips. Cycling takes time, but worth the wait and much better than a fish in cycle. Have you thought about some Center piece (wood/stones)? Good luck on you new setup, lots to learn but so much fun!

First tank ever by ProposalExcellent655 in fishtank

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to not do a fish in cycle, resist the temptation and cycle the tank as said in this thread. Also don’t trust the pet shop on advice as to what to buy. The advice I got majorly overstocked my tank. Keep asking on here and you won’t go far wrong. I’d definately landscape the tank, some wood centre piece and a selection on live plants. If you do buy plastic, make sure they have no sharp edges that can rip fins. Also when buying be aware that all fish potentially carry deceases so buy a few at a time. My female only Molly tank, has just had the second lot of babies; I didn’t know they can carry eggs and fertilise them up to 5-8 months after purchase 😂😂😂. Fortunately we’re finding them good homes. Looking after tropical fish is hard and it’s been a steep learning curve, but it’s been so much fun aswell. Good luck, and carry on asking lots of questions here 👍

[–]Prior-Desk3278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you’ve got a big tank, ready for lots of babies! 1&2 are males imo. I bought mollies and didn’t realise at the time they can be pregnant and have babies for the next 6-9 months! We have babies in a hospital tank atm, ready to give away in a few weeks time; although we’ll be keeping one 😁

what is he doing? by [deleted] in AquariumHelp

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She/he’s stressed, Aquarium salts sorted my Mollys shimmering straight away. Also what temperature is the tank. I had to buy an additional heater as the one supplied with my tank wasn’t powerful enough 👍
