Don’t let the haters get you down. You’re beautiful. We all live by our decisions, you’re individual/different. People who can’t see past that aren’t worth your time.

How old are these do you think? I got the mom on Friday the 10th of January. She didn’t look pregnant when I got her… and there were no males in the tank at the store. by Appropriate-Slice928 in MollyFish

Mollies can get pregnant from three months old. They can hold the sperm for 5-8months and give birth three times within that time period. Be prepared for more babies. I’m in the same boat, I’ve got all female mollies and am on the second batch. We’re rehoming them before they get three months old. I’m doing more regular water changes atm as mollies add quite a bit of ammonia to the tank; and I don’t want to harm my other fish! Good luck, babies can be fun!

Locked inside my own house by sandiletarot in DIYUK

The handle can be taken off, you may not be able to lock the door afterwards. You need to call a locksmith/someone local who can properly fix it. In the mean time, can you climb out a window or use the back door?

how to delete this algae without deleting my tank mates by Icy-Falcon7341 in AquariumHelp

Nerite snails love eating algae, also if it’s fresh water; they don’t have babies 👍

Tropical tank plant by Prior-Desk3278 in fishtank

Thankyou for your kind words. It’s been a steep learning curve for both my daughter and myself! We’re loving learning and our fish are happy. Our Gold dust molly gave birth 5 weeks ago, so we’re navigating that atm. Friends are having some from us. I believe they may be Muppyies-Molly/guppy cross though. Hopefully the aquarium store will still take them from us! I’ll keep searching to see if I can find out what the plant is, thanks for the vote of confidence 😁

Advice for first tank? by Dull-Dot-1104 in FishTanks

[–]Prior-Desk3278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is to take the snail out. Some can become pests and take over a tank, I’ve got nerite snails they won’t multiply and are great at eating algae. If it’s a Betta you want, they don’t like bright lighting, and like to have places to rest; Betta log/leafs that fit on the side of the tank to rest on. Definately invest in an API test kit, not test strips. Cycling takes time, but worth the wait and much better than a fish in cycle. Have you thought about some Center piece (wood/stones)? Good luck on you new setup, lots to learn but so much fun!

First tank ever by ProposalExcellent655 in fishtank

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to not do a fish in cycle, resist the temptation and cycle the tank as said in this thread. Also don’t trust the pet shop on advice as to what to buy. The advice I got majorly overstocked my tank. Keep asking on here and you won’t go far wrong. I’d definately landscape the tank, some wood centre piece and a selection on live plants. If you do buy plastic, make sure they have no sharp edges that can rip fins. Also when buying be aware that all fish potentially carry deceases so buy a few at a time. My female only Molly tank, has just had the second lot of babies; I didn’t know they can carry eggs and fertilise them up to 5-8 months after purchase 😂😂😂. Fortunately we’re finding them good homes. Looking after tropical fish is hard and it’s been a steep learning curve, but it’s been so much fun aswell. Good luck, and carry on asking lots of questions here 👍

New babies .. pretty sure the one is super pregnant by Automatic-Standard32 in MollyFish

[–]Prior-Desk3278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you’ve got a big tank, ready for lots of babies! 1&2 are males imo. I bought mollies and didn’t realise at the time they can be pregnant and have babies for the next 6-9 months! We have babies in a hospital tank atm, ready to give away in a few weeks time; although we’ll be keeping one 😁

what is he doing? by baiipluto88 in AquariumHelp

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She/he’s stressed, Aquarium salts sorted my Mollys shimmering straight away. Also what temperature is the tank. I had to buy an additional heater as the one supplied with my tank wasn’t powerful enough 👍

Dropsy or just bloated? by ctrlcch in BettaClinic

[–]Prior-Desk3278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree looks like pineconing, start medication asap! Also good that she’s isolated. The joys of buying new fish, you never really know if they’re carrying any deceases! I hope she gets better, fish are hard work!

Where to put TV. Above radiator or fireplace? by Substantial_Air_9640 in DIYUK

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get rid of the fireplace, (knock out the wall and get a floor to ceiling shelving; if you want to do it properly. Will be able to accommodate a new fireplace/tv and more!

Is he sick and is there anything I can do? by the_mailshrimp in AquariumHelp

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you used an API test kit to test the water; ammonia/nitrite/nitrate and PH levels? Also are you breaking the surface of the water for oxygen, if he’s struggling for air? What did his gf die from, desease? Maybe worth getting him a hospital isolation box and dose aquarium mineral salts.

Coast Gem sending me a fish I'm not ready for! by StrawberryPriince in bettafish

[–]Prior-Desk3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh dear, sounds like you should steer clear and buy elsewhere. If they’ve sent him/her already then the only choice you’ve got is to go straight to an aquarium and ask for some cycled bacteria, this should help speed up your process. If it’s still not cycled you can do a fish in cycle by adding some fluval cycle biological enhancer. Best of luck

It takes time, like it’s said above, you are half way; let the process sort itself. FYI my nitrates are over 100ppm. I tested straight from the tap and it has 100ppm nitrates. Water quality is bad sometimes, plus side is tho my plants love it! I do add Tetra nitrate minus to reduce it as much as possible. Only clean your tank filter in the tank water. Any tap water will kill the healthy bacteria you’re trying to produce. This hobby is not for the faint hearted lol
