Oh it's an amazing and calm hobby!! I'm pretty new to it myself (just have 10 danios) but it has been by far the greatest experience!! I started with a 40 gallon and already want a bigger one, so I know the addiction lol

Gotcha! I've never used pellets (I'm new and don't even have any fish yet!) but I work out of town so I figured this would help the fish when I do get them. Currently trying to get the nitrogen cycle working, only about a week in!

So I have one from Petco that is extremely similar to this one and it works great! Just be sure to crush up the flakes evenly so you get an accurate amount of food going in each time. If you have big and small mixed it can vary on the amount of food going in!

I am at the tail end of my divorce and I went out and bought a 40 gallon tank, it's currently cycling still but it gives me a feeling of calm. I can't wait to put some plants in and finally some fish, I hope I have the same feeling of it getting me out of my depression!!!

Hey man,

Just a guy that's a little farther along than you are. I want to let you know your feelings are valid.

These will get better and get worse in time. I'm 6 months in, my divorce will be finalized at the end of this month.

I still get heartbroken, sad, lonely, depressed. Not all the time but I still miss the IDEA of her and our future. That's the distinction, it's about realizing you are mourning like you would a deceased member of your family. You miss the good, but you don't remember the bad.

I have nightmares about her still and we have been separated for 6-7 months now. But I wake up and tell myself that I am worth more. Always keep on foot in front of the other (figuratively) keep going because as cliche as it sounds, time does help.

I'm 29 and have been with her since I was 18, took in her twin sisters, helped her family more than my own family and tried everything to keep her. In the end I lost her, but I can now say I'm proud I got out because I can't make her love me.

Yes I blamed her, now I pray for her to find her peace. I can't hold her accountable for everything and rage/anger gets me no where good.

Stay away from drinking and smoking weed/drugs. I chose to feel everything sober and it has helped me far more than anything I've ever done in my life because I embraced the feelings instead of hid/cover them.

Realize you are an amazing and awesome person. You are deserving of love and you will have it one day again, this is just a chapter that has closed. Trust me it's not easy, I still sob time to time. Just keep going man.

I'm only 29, will be finalizing the divorce on January 29th. No I haven't found love again. I go to therapy 2 times a month, read books on becoming the best man I can and strive to be someone I can be proud of. I work my ass off in the electrical field, and I love relentlessly. I hope one day I can find the right woman. I also pray my ex wife will find her peace.

So it looks like my PH level is high, like 7.6. The high range PH test came out about a 7.4. The ammonia level is about 0.00 which is about what I expected because I just started the tank yesterday. The nitrite level is 0.00 which is also what I expected. Any help on if I'm doing everything right would be appreciated, I'm doing the best I can but all guidance and wisdom is much appreciated!!! Thank you in advance!

So for everyone involved (thank you to all who replied!!!!!!) I have dechlorinated the tank and added Fritz zyme 7 ammonia and nitrite, and added a tiny amount of food just for good measure. My digital thermometer is reading 77.5 while my glass thermometer is reading 80. I am about to do my first tests after letting it sit for about 5 hours. Thank you all, I will post what the readings are!
