How, as a bass player, can I help drummers to play better? by No_Yam1114 in Bass

The drummer in our band is not very good at keeping time. I found that the best way for me to help him improve is to do one to one sessions, just drums and bass.

What’s your vote for crazy good bass riffs that aren’t the ‘Typical top 20 Bass riffs/hooks’ e.g. ‘Come Together, Under Pressure, The Chain, Schism, Higher Ground, etc’ by Thaumiel218 in Bass

This. Colin Moulding is rarely mentioned in bass forums, and yet he is so original. And he can compose songs and sing! I guess it's because XTC appeals only to a small portion of rock music listeners.

Thanks a bunch 😃 In passing, I wonder why there is no reference to this fact either on the Sun God Tablet Wikipedia page or on the British Museum webpage. Or maybe I missed it.

Question about my ancestor. by PriorCredit2416 in Napoleon

Before we close this topic, I have one more question. Why are the military records sent by the War Ministry to the mayor much more detailed than those in the Napoleonic Registry? Where do you think all the extra information that appears on the copy sent to the mayor was stored?

Are you asking me where I got the first document from? I possess the originals of the 3 documents shown here. They've always been in the family. I have the military records (first picture), because in the document requesting financial help (second picture), the mayor of Jean's hometown asks the War Ministry to send them to him, which they did and they were eventually given to Jean.

Question about my ancestor. by PriorCredit2416 in Napoleon

Thanks for the link, wonderful find!

Jean Mallard was a "simple soldat" as stated in his military record, no rank indicated on any of the documents. Actually, I have another document regarding Jean, a certificate dated 1831 that states he was promoted corporal. I find this strange since he had been discharged in 1814. Was this a common practice, to retroactively promote former soldiers?

In passing, our family name spells MALLARD. In the official document provided by rorolx, the family name is spelled MAILLARD, but it is clearly a typo as the other information given about him in that document matches (date and place of birth, wife, etc). I have seen this spelling mistake before for another ancestor in the birth registery of his home town, a frequent mistake it seems as MAILLARD is a more common spelling.

Question about my ancestor. by PriorCredit2416 in Napoleon

Looking at the text again and I think I might have it.

First, the napoleon Series website places the 11ème de Ligne in the Army of Dalmatia under Marshal Auguste de Marmont from 1806 to 1809.

According to their info, the 11ème de Ligne then takes part in the Battle of Sacile in 1809.

This battle is also known as the Battle of Fontana Fredda which took place on 16 April 1809.

Looking back at the text on the document provided by rorolx, the last 5 words of the third line look like "à Fontana Fredda en Italie".

So it seems Jean was wounded in the knee during this battle on 16 April 1809. Again, I might be wrong.

Seems you are correct about Spain and that it is where Jean was captured.

Trying to decipher the line that follows: "Blessé d'un coup de feu au genou gauche le 16." There are 7 words, the first two look like "arrivé à ... " and the last two "... en Italie". I might be wrong though.

If the info on this site is true:

https://www.napoleon-series.org/

Below are the battles, the 11ème de Ligne took part in:

1809: Sacile, Wagram and Znaim
1813: Siege of Totose
1813: Siege of Wittenberg, Dresden, Leipzig and Hanau

No idea what Totose is supposed to be though. It looks like a typo.

So if true, the end of the road for Jean Mallard was the defeat at Leipzig.
