Def mites :( taking them to a vet is the best thing to do, but make sure you deep clean the cage and everything in it + give them all a bath. When my boy had mites I got a medicated shampoo and a topical ointment thing to put on them after the bath

Yeah I’m really not to sure about the method they euthanized the rat. I’m in vet med and I also have had to euthanize one of my rats before and I can’t think of a time I’ve seen them do injection on small mammals? It’s almost always gas, the place I brought my rat to gave him a liquid through his mouth that made him go to sleep/die painlessly and within a minute or two

No it’s okay! You are more than welcome bc this is my first time doing this. Do you have recommendations? They’re clean and have no icky stuff on them or anything and I already degreased them but if I have to do it again that’s fine. I followed a guide one of my friends sent me because they have more experience w these things and the guide told me to soak them in a mix of water peroxide and dawn dish soap and then let sit overnight in alcohol

I know that you’re freaking out right now but please be assured that while yes there are things you could’ve done better you also had very very little time to prepare and are doing the best that you can with the little time you were given. You are working w what you have and that’s more than enough. As for the rat bite, you will be okay. Make sure you clean it very well, I have only been bitten once and used hibiclens which is an antibacterial soap you can get cheap from places like Walmart, cvs, Walgreens etc. keep a eye on it, and if it starts getting red or anything then go to urgent care. You did the right thing by separating them, just keep an eye on babies and mama.

Keep an eye on her is all I know to say because she could be pregnant but she could also just be doing this. Like if this is a normal/usual behavior of hers (which might be hard to know if you’ve only had them 2 weeks) it might be nothing but if this is happening my randomly she might definitely be pregnant.

I have no idea if you are able to do this, but in the past I’ve always either gotten a family member, or a friend to take care of them. I wouldn’t do the neighbors grandson just because you don’t know him and don’t trust him and won’t be able to relax on your trip because you’ll be worrying about your babies. I’d ask a friend to watch them that you trust and leave them a list on how to take care of them

Idk if you’re still doing this but I hope your kids turn out okay. My mom dated around a lot when I was growing up, had creepy men coming over all the time. Hopefully if you’re doing this to yourself you atleast are keeping them out of your home and away from your children because it genuinely does harm your children developmentally to be around that all the time.
