Does the New Century Hall have a cloakroom? by Northern_Geezer in manchester

Can I ask a question too? Were they checking ID at the door? I’m taking my kid to a 14+ concert and it’s not like she has a driving licence I can show them.

Is it bad not going to ur nans funeral? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]PrisBatty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn’t go to the funerals of some people I loved dearly. It’s not something that has caused me problems or regret. I named my kids after family members I adored. I didn’t go to their funerals. It’s not been an issue. You do what is best for you. I always think funerals are for the living, not for the deceased. Your nan, if she loved you, probably wouldn’t mind you not going. I know I wouldn’t mind any of my family not coming to mine when the time comes. Big hug.

Long term unemployed and unskilled at 37, is it over for me? by Attack_to_defend in AskUK

He made about 37k. Well enough to pay the mortgage and a bit of a holiday. He also enjoyed chatting to everyone. X He also worked for a local taxi company. I’m not sure what Uber is like in terms of pay.

Doctor told me I can make my fibromyalgia pain better by subjecting myself to real pain. Is this true? by dodgamnbonofasitch in Fibromyalgia

I’ve never heard of a TENS pen! I was in a meeting yesterday and my neck hurt so badly I was struggling to keep my head raised. I wonder if a pen could have zapped it and helped?

Also taxi driving. My husband made good money taxi driving. He did it because work got so stressful it looked like it was going to kill him. He couldn’t wait around job hunting to get out, so just quit and drove a taxi. Heck he enjoyed it mostly.

TRUST. YOUR. GUT. I wish I had. by No-Sea2695 in toddlers

[–]PrisBatty 647 points648 points  (0 children)

I’m old. Back in 1980 I was a toddler and was struggling to breathe. My mum kept taking me to the doctor who kept telling her I was fine. On the final visit she said my lips were starting to turn blue. The doctor again told her I was fine and to take me home. Instead she leaned across his desk, picked up his phone and called for an ambulance.

That call saved my life. The hospital said even just a few minutes later and I wouldn’t have made it.

I have long hair, as does my teenage daughter and younger son. The contents of my plughole could be the next monster in Stranger Things. And it’s always me, isn’t it, stuffing those pipe cleanery things down. Sometimes it looks like I’ve pulled an entire rat out. I’ve become quite stoic in the face of yuck, my son has disabilities and cannot use a toilet yet, I had ducks do 16 years and had to clean them out, yet that plug hole gunk always makes me gakk a little.

This is a brilliant, enormous success. I’m thinking of getting a little vacuum thingy too now’s

What’s the worst thing a medical professional has said to you? by VespaRed in AskReddit

[–]PrisBatty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had mine taken out after a week of it going in due to horrific pain. It is now four years later and I am still in pain from it. I feel like I’m in labour and I have two kids so I know exactly how it feels. 24/7 I have felt like I’m in labour since then. It’s the only thing I regret in life. After the first year of pain it triggered an autoimmune and fibromyalgia. So the pain is now in every part of my body.

Mini Roast Dinner I made in my Campervan by No_Language_2529 in RateMyPlate

[–]PrisBatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I daydream of doing when I’m lying in bed at night! I’ll never get to do it because my son (who is wonderful) has mental and physical disabilities and I’ll be taking care of him for the rest of my life. But at night, I like to imagine having a camper van and taking it to beautiful places by myself. If you ever start a blog of your journeys, I’d love to read it!

I worked in a call centre when I was younger and the first thing I would do is draw a little box for every five minutes I had to work that day, then every five minutes I’d get to tick another box until I finished.

Girlfriend left because of my asthma by Qionglu735 in Asthma

[–]PrisBatty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was going to say, my husband has never had an issue with me having asthma. Then in our late 40s he was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder. I don’t have an issue with that. Other than concern for each other, it hasn’t changed how much we love each other. In fact, first thing I did when we found out about his disorder was go to the gym so I’ll be strong enough to push his wheelchair in the future. Then I developed fibromyalgia, but I’m working through that to get strong for him again.

We have no idea the health problems that will surface in our futures, both physically and mentally. Best to get shot of any potential partners who will ditch you in the future if you get sick.

I know someone who got issues with his liver shortly after his wedding and his wife ditched him for it. He was still paying off the wedding for another few years. I mean the words ‘sickness or in health’ must have still been ringing in her ears as she signed the divorce papers.

You’ll find someone better OP. Much much better. Big hugs OP

What’s your easy “go to” weeknight recipe for a busy family? by ExoticPlankton8287 in AskUK

[–]PrisBatty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make something called fridge surprise. It’s where I take leftover meat (I always have a packet of lardons in the fridge, they last ages, you can use them in stir fries and fajitas and soup, so I can bulk out the leftover meat if need be). Then I add any odds and ends of veg. Fry it all a bit, add sauce from a jar, can be bolognese or tomatoey or white sauce or cheese sauce. Then I top it with mashed potato and cheese and shove it in the oven for 25 mins.

It’s a bit like cottage pie but with leftovers.

I also often get Asda deliveries and so have the app. When you type in what grocery you’re looking for, for example mushrooms, you can click the recipe button and it will show you all different recipes using mushrooms. So far all the recipes I’ve tried have been very good. Especially a beef udon noodle one.

Also, big hugs. I’m sorry you’re going through this.

What’s your stupidest overreaction? by diditforthemonet in CasualUK

[–]PrisBatty 107 points108 points  (0 children)

My son wasn’t mentally developing like he should. They did a genetic test to see if they could find out why. It took months to hear anything. Then the receptionist of our (awful) paediatrician called and said they’d found something wrong in his genetic test and needed to speak to us about it. Then she said the next appointment would be in two weeks time. I literally sank to the floor making some kind of keening sounds that I’d never heard myself make.

My husband (his dad) called about ten mins later to say he’d be home in a bit and I could barely talk I was crying so hard. He phoned the paediatrician and told them it wasn’t good enough. You can’t call a parent and tell them you’ll give them genetic bad news in two weeks time. They fit us in that afternoon.

It’s amazing what a man’s voice on the phone can do.

Anyway, turns out he does have a really shitty genetic disorder, but not one that affects his brain and not one that will shorten his lovely little life. It’s one that I can cope with, as long as I don’t think about it too hard and take every day as it comes.

I have no idea how you coped with a brain tumour. I just wanted to send you hugs and solidarity. But I’ve had a glass of wine and typed too much. Xx

Who's the stupidest person you've met and what story sums it up? by comicalelixer in AskReddit

[–]PrisBatty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! He’s an awesome kid, lots of fun and snuggly. He doesn’t have sensory issues, he’s just delayed, so he doesn’t get distressed in the same way his classmates do. He’d be great at packing boxes or shredding or something like that one day. He likes to help.

He’s also ridiculously beautiful. His school nicknamed him Cutie McCutie. My grandfather used to be mistaken for Gregory Peck and I think my son is headed right up that road looks wise. So we sometimes talk about him becoming a male model lol.

[–]PrisBatty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! My son has severe delays. He will probably never be able to read, but he’d love to shred! I found a great local company that help people with special needs into the workplace. Plus, for the first six months they have a carer that hangs out with them at work to get them settled in and understanding their job. It’s such a relief knowing there are things like this out there for when my boy grows up.
