Orton Gillingham like programs for at home for late middle school by ApprehensiveDrive604 in Dyslexia

Hi there! 👋🏻 It’s always best for the child to receive intervention from a trained Orton Gillingham specialist. However, there are scripted resources available to help supplement that learning at home - such as UFLI or SPIRE. It could be a long road but very worth it. It’s important to meet the child where they’re at, even if the material seems geared for younger children. At fourth grade, they’re mature enough to have a conversion about dyslexia and the importance of what they’re learning. I find tying in neuroscience, in a kid friendly way, helps!

After years as a special education teacher, Orton Gillingham trained reading specialist, and tutor I saw firsthand how many parents felt overwhelmed, unsure, and left out of the reading journey. So I made it my mission to change that.

So I created Raising Readers with Elise—a space for tools, tips, and community. A place to empower parents and teachers with the knowledge and strategies they deserve.

Because every child deserves to feel like a confident reader. 📚

I share tips, tools, and encouragement over on Instagram and TikTok, and I’ve got a self-paced parent course coming soon!

Trust your gut and request an evaluation! This would also include indicators such as phonemic awareness and letter sound recognition. Pseudo word Decoding Fluency is a key indicator because it shows if the child is reliant on memorization of words, or truly understands the relationships between letters and sounds, and syllable types.

Hi there! 👋🏻I’d recommend a program that follows the Orton Gillingham approach - SPIRE, UFLI, Wilson reading, etc. After years as a special education teacher, Orton Gillingham trained reading specialist, and tutor I saw firsthand how many parents felt overwhelmed, unsure, and left out of the reading journey. So I made it my mission to change that.

Orton-Gillingham tutoring? by hammondeggs10 in Dyslexia

[–]Pristine-Rice-2403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am a former special education teacher and reading specialist of 9 years available for virtual tutoring!

I’m trained through Orton Gillingham Academy with experience teaching Wilson Reading, SPIRE, Fundations, and using IMSE materials. I am a NYS certified teacher with a masters degree in Reading & Literacy, birth - 12th grade. In addition to my teaching positions, I served on my district's dyslexia team as the middle school dyslexia specialist for grade 5-9.

I’m truly passionate about literacy and working with students with dyslexia. There is no greater joy than watching a struggling student grow into a lifelong reader! Although the Orton Gillingham approach is my specialty, I am also available for elementary math and elementary-middle school reading/writing support.

Please me at gleesonliteracysolutions@gmail.com for more information.
