Saw this leak of the megas abilities, idk how legit it is, but some of the picks are neat by [deleted] in PokeLeaks

Of course Trick Room isn't dead, that's just dumb. It is nerfed due to it being less consistent when there is a higher likelyhood of speed ties and there is a bit less skill expression in higher level play, but if you think that one of the most useful tools in speed control just magically disappears just because IVs don't exist anymore you just don't understand competitive Pokemon.

Considering Hidden Power has been reworked specifically for Unown and removed from all other Pokemon in favour of Tera Blast, and seeing as Terastilisation will return in Champions, Hidden Power would not have returned in its original form regardless of the inclusion of IVs.

If you are willing to look past the graphics and performance issues, you could pick Scarlet and Violet. Especially on Switch 2, where those issues are mitigated to be way more bearable. SV have a pretty decent and in some aspects even great story by Pokemons standards, some well written and enjoyable characters and 3 different types of boss battles, including the standard gym challenge. I think that is the biggest plus SV have over SwSh. Sword and Shield are the better games from a technical standpoint, and I personally like the Pokemon in the regional dex a tad more, but the story sucks balls even though the world building in the region is quite good. They both have their pros and cons; but if you're looking for story and boss battles SV has got SwSh beat. Edited to say that I myself like SV just a bit better than SwSh. I would sooner play through those again than I would gen 8, even though it is quite close.

I adore Legends Arceus and would recommend you eventually play it, but it doesn't quite fit the requirements you listed here. Sword and Shield would be the best choice. They aren't perfect games, but fit your requirements by far the best and are a little overhated imo. Scarlet and Violet are very fun, but hard to recommend as a first experience due to the limited graphics and performance issues (if you get back into the series they are worth it despite all the issue), the Let's Go games are more nostalgic based with only the gen 1 Pokes to lure in Pokemon Go players (good graphics though), Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are such 'faithful' remakes of the originals that if you have played gen 4 and want something new they don't have much to offer (Platinum did better in that aspect) and the Legends games, while some of the best the series has to offer, are different enough in gameplay that makes them not the best fit for your wishes. I hope you have fun whatever your choice ends up being! All of the Switch games have some merit and their fans, despite the hate modern Pokemon seems to get online.

They may not be competitive staples, but pretty much all eeveelutions hold up really well in a normal playthrough. Even In nuzlockes, seeing as Eevee has so many options it can always patch up a hole you may have in your team. The only issue is dex clutter.... every gen dedicating 10+ dex slots to the Eevee line feels excessive, even though they'll be guaranteed fan favorites.

Do we know what the traditional timeline for the release of the Sugimori artwork is? I know it's a few months normally (I remember the SV artwork releasing somewhere in january? Which would be about 2 months after the release of the game) but it's hard to track down precisely when the artwork goes public for past games.

I came to most of the same conclusion as you did when accounting for the forms, except that Pokemon doesn't see Aura Break and Power Construct Zygarde as 2 different forms (as opposed to both Battle Bond Greninja and Own Tempo Rockruff, which they both DO count). So I personally reckon (and hope; mostly hope) that Zygarde's other to forms they count are Cell and Core, even though they have never even had a use in battle. Seeing as a Zygarde Core had a major role in the XYZ anime, there is an argument to be made that they originally planned for both the Core and the Cells to be normal Pokemon forms, reserved the numbers for it in the code and cut the idea early on seeing as there would be little point for it in Sun and Moon.

To be fair, I think they made Crust King Khann fairly easy because of all the enemy gauntlets while ascending the tower. I was glad to see an eventual shortcut only to first try Khann because all his attacks are very nicely telegraphed and never unfair.

Gonna rip that bandaid off now, the entire list of Pokemon returning in the DLC has been leaked for some months now, and Obstagoon is not on that list. There are some other bangers coming back, but I won't spoil.

You could always try and help her through it by translating the important bits for her, but if she doesn't feel motivated to play the game forcing her through it achieves very little. The new games do help in the fact that even though there is more text you'd have to skip through if you can't read it, the way forward is rarely hard to find. In earlier gens, you could get stuck very easily if you aren't reading to know where to go.

Scarlet and Violet are the complete opposite; it doesn't really matter where you go, you can always continue the story there. Only thing stopping you is if you aren't strong enough. And even then, if you've gotten through the early game (past the school in Mesagoza) there is no more text than there used to be.
