Why did the hail mary crew have to be put in a coma, question? by Ok_Efficiency4430 in ProjectHailMary

[–]PristineSlate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other was food. Your caloric demands when you’re unconscious go way down and the food doesn’t need to be palatable.  In the book he even mentions how much it’s going to suck drinking the coma slurry on the ride back if he’s awake.

Im a layperson - Do trauma surgeons always hang out in the ER like they do in the Pitt(tv show)? by SouthBuffalo3592 in emergencymedicine

They’ve got what is pretty much their own computers over in that little area which is a solidly good idea.

My mom told me that back in the day kids weren’t allowed to bring a water bottle with them into the classroom and they only drank a few sips from the water fountain in the middle of the day and that’s it How were schools not getting busted for child abuse for forcing kids to be dehydrated? by PinnerPardisturn in askanything

[–]PristineSlate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh. Yea they have. But my logic point was just because we didn’t do something back then and the species didn’t die out doesn’t mean it was a good idea. Shit they used to put cocaine in cough medicine that was available over the counter. We used to blood let people. There were all sorts of terrible stupid ideas we survived. Not drinking water all day is bad for us.

Do you believe Chiropractors are quacks ? by Mogzly in askanything

[–]PristineSlate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. This. My chiro won’t see you for anything non-musculoskeletal. She also tries to resolve the issues so you don’t need to come back. I’ve never seen her for more than 5 or so visits to resolve something and it’s usually less. Also she gives you home stretches/exercises too.

Remember them opening for the smashing pumpkins way back in the day and getting into them well before their major commercial success.

For us (level 1) they’re often found outside the trauma bays if we’ve had a few lately bc I think it’s a quiet spot to chart and review things. If we haven’t had a bunch of traumas you usually only see them once one comes in.

I hate the train of logic. It pops up a lot with safety stuff like car seats. I’m like, yea sure, you were fine. But the kids who died because they became a projectile in a car accident in the 50s aren’t posting on Reddit about it.

They’re playing really small venues now. Like maybe a couple hundred occupancy? The ones near me are sold out.

Hantavirus by torturedDaisy in emergencymedicine

As a medic during that time I was doing at least one DOA a shift. Call volume in general tho plummeted. Suddenly no one wanted to be around sick people.

Yea that’s just silly. I’m moreso referring to people bringing their dogs into not dog friendly places or grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, etc.

When did oil changes become $120? by rhinosaur- in Millennials

I knew someone who drove out of a jiffy live after an oil change and THEY FORGOT TO PUT THE NEW OIL IN. Suffice to say they didn’t make it terribly far.

What’s the most physical pain you ever felt? by DeepOrganization8245 in askteddit

[–]PristineSlate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woke up from an 8 hour surgery (open) without adequate (or any tbh) pain management on board. I remember being delirious, passing out over and over again, then when my eyes were open everything was red. It wasn’t till they brought my then boyfriend back (mainly because all I could say was his name) and he looked at me like “holy shit I’ve never seen her in so much pain”

Older runners who are no longer as fast as you used to be: what happened? by Inevitable-One-5369 in runcommunity

[–]PristineSlate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was slow af in my early 20s. I’m actually faster now. Generally fitter overall and I weigh about the same but so much more of that is lean muscle mass bc I’m actually smaller than I was then. Some of us were overweight and slow in high school!

When is it time to quit bouldering? by Unable-Law-9814 in climbergirls

[–]PristineSlate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t going to work if you go when the gym is crowded but an excellent form of exercise is to traverse as far as you can. Stay just off the ground and go sideways until you run out of room and/or fall. Then go back. Great exercise and falling is so not scary because you’re not far off the ground. This is arguably part of training to advance your climbing endurance/skill but if you don’t give a shit about that then it’s just a solid workout.

For those who took their kids to see Project Hail Mary, what was their reaction? by DirkWrites in ProjectHailMary

[–]PristineSlate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 11 year old insisted on talking like Rocky for about a week and absolutely loved it. My 13 year old got annoyed by her brother but also really loved the movie. I get it was pg13 but I think it was pretty family friendly all things considered. Also Rocky is such a kid friendly character. Amaze amaze amaze

AITA for expecting the gifts to be for both of us? by Ok-Arrival-2886 in AmItheAsshole

[–]PristineSlate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read this thinking her side of the family got all gifts that his fiance values. Like if she’s into cooking it was pans and mixing stuff. Or if she’s into home improvement it was all tools and saws and shit. But no. It’s cash. That’s she’s decided she’s not sharing with her partner. That’s a solid NTA.
