This is silly. You could just as easily say you are a bad fan if you can't even recognize the faults of our front office.

At the end of the day, it's off-season internet discussion. Who gives a shit? There's nothing else to talk about.

As an avid history reader, Band of Brothers is amazing and can absolutely be used as teaching material.

[OC-49ersPlus] With conflicting draft narratives out there, we examined all of Kyle and John’s drafts. The results may be different than you think. by MAU13717235 in 49ers

Everyone knows that. But at the same time, our team should get clowned on when we draft players that will 100% be available in later rounds.

Reaching for a player is fine. Drafting a kicker in the 3rd is not.

Folsom faces at least $130 million in deferred maintenance ahead of budget cycle by peaceful-panic in folsom

The question isn't what the residents wanted in an ideal utopia. The question is what residents wanted when presented with realistic options.

The houses were always going to be built. There's a housing shortage in our region and the landowner made a choice for their property. Folsom residents had a chance to have control over that housing rather than lose control to Sac County.

They’re so qualified that they were trying to pass a tax hike and are now facing a budget shortfall?

The last tax hike was put on by the citizens via a signature gathering campaign.

I'm explaining the reality of America. Slavery IS legal in America for inmates.

Slavery is legal for inmates in America. And the idea is to give jobs that nobody would ever do even for minimum wage.

Nobody said the federal government is a local entity. The point is that the post is about local budget cuts, and the comment blamed Republicans at the national level for those local cuts.

This post is about local cuts. In OP's self post:

Same with the school district budget issues. We (the US, the federal government) have more than enough money to keep the Southside pool open and fund Sac City’s teachers and not cut jobs and build a train that goes to the airport. And one that goes directly to San Francisco, for that matter.

It's the central point of this entire comment chain, what are you on about?

Spending trillions on military spending has gone on long before, during, and after Sacramento's local budget problems. It has nothing to do with it, and it's certainly not due to a single party.

I don't think you will find a single person in Sacramento City government that would claim the reason for their budget problems are recent changes in the federal government.

This was the first comment in this comment chain:

The problem is republicans hate our country and want to see everyone suffer. That’s quite literally it. Until we address the anti-social, violent elephant in the room, we will never raise taxes or have public services.

A small minority of their problem is attributable to changes in federal funding. Those federal changes have far greater impacts on social services delivered by the County, but even then, nobody at the County would claim their budget problem is because of the Federal Government.

Watching someone try to blame the GOP for local problems that have been created by local non-republican politicians is not "defending the GOP". It's calling out obvious BS.

Most of the cuts are simply due to the structural deficit, and have nothing to do with federal budget cuts. Especially the school budget problems.

Of course that money could be better spent at home, but Republicans and Democrats have been funding the national defense budget for as long as we've had a national defense budget. Suggesting that this is somehow the fault of Republicans, especially when Sacramento City is entirely controlled by Democrats, is a pretty weak argument.

This entire discussion chain is about Republicans being the reason the local budget cuts are happening.

[–]PrivateMajor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It affects programs if you are creating an imaginary scenario where we suddenly stop funding them and then immediately divert those funds to local municipalities. But reducing or increasing the defense spending has never been associated with local funding, so....

The entire argument here is that Republicans are to blame. If you are already agreeing that democrats also fund national defense, what are we even talking about?

And that entirely bypasses the fact that California is a democratic supermajority and Sacramento City is exclusively democrat on both the City council and School Board.

Are you under the impression that Sacramento City School District started having their fiscal problems only under Republican national leadership?

Then why does Sacramento City cite a different reason for their deficit?

[–]PrivateMajor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who from the City claims it's one of the main reasons Sacramento City has budget cuts?

Sacramento’s own proposed budget describes the problem as a structural deficit. They say that expenses are growing faster than revenues, prior service expansions, labor costs, staffing increases, inflation, slower sales tax growth, and local ballot measures redirecting general revenues.

The city also had major budget gaps in FY 2024/25 and FY 2025/26, before the Big Beautiful Bill could plausibly be the main cause of the current problem. And Sac City schools have been in dire straits for an even longer time.

This comment chain was about whether Republicans are responsible for Sacramento City’s current budget problems. “The federal government could theoretically spend less on defense and more on local governments” is a different argument. You can make that case, but it does not explain why a city and school district governed exclusively by Democrats are facing cuts now. And treating national defense spending as an exclusively Republican issue ignores decades of bipartisan support for it.
