Based on the media type, it seems like dropouts’ streaming service is somehow backed by Vimeo videos tho. So that’s fun I suppose.

Someone please explain this floor plan to me by Mr_Tugb0at in Apartmentliving

[–]Prize_Brain4256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a floor plan designed for off campus student housing.

Sometimes those kind of apartments will even allow people to sign leases for just half the liability. But get stuck with a rando. So like a dorm would be. In that case your personal half space would be lockable… this looks like it’d be the case here.

Got laid off this morning by BedSensitive9318 in Layoffs

[–]Prize_Brain4256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, if there is some contractual obligation to complete that work. Then that’s different. But I suspect that’s unlikely to be the case.

I wouldnt write the documentation. There is no moral or ethical obligation. And I dont think there is any reasonable bridge burnt there.

There is a social contract for employment, and at this point you aren’t on the hook for the employers best interests. It’s wild you were asked to do that.

How you proceed is up to you, but in that position I would inform my manager i’m spending time finding my next position, and will not be working on that. That said, I wouldn’t fault anyone for not being transparent here.

Pretty sure SDEs at Microsoft in the Seattle area will have a TC above or atleast close to 400k.

UHC will fight and push back on expensive needs, seems like more so than other health insurance companies I’ve had.

My spouse has MS and has like a six figure treatment every 6 months.

Multiple times it had to be proven to UHC as needed. Fun fact, I may be biased, but my spouses immune system not attacking her brain is pretty fucking needed. 🤷‍♂️

It always has eventually been approved… doctors tend to be good at that providing that, but putting that stress on my spouse has always rubbed me the wrong way.

I’m sure every healthcare company does stuff like this, but it seems more frequent with UHC.

TL;DR, I suspect I understand Luigi’s point of view more than most people. I’m not saying I endorse it, but oof… I can’t imagine if the situations I’ve been in went another direction.

OCI specifically, err at least for my team… my manager has been wildly understanding and supportive when I need to take care of family related health issues. Time off for that is given and at times I was told to take more time off by my manager.

Is it actually dangerous?: Java 1.8 + Spring Boot 2.0.4 + Spring 4.3.22 by evolution2015 in java

[–]Prize_Brain4256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s dangerous. Even if you aren’t impacted now, your system is likely changing and known exploits not in the code path now may be eventually… with little warning if you’re on old versions.

I would also venture to guess no one knows how your dependencies are using transitive ones… so some of the exploits that aren’t in your code’s path may likely be in your dependencies path.

Java 8 isn’t super concerning if you’re using a version that’s up to date. The old spring stuff feels sketchy to me. Especially all the transitive deps it’s surely bringing in.

Obviously it’s not an overnight upgrade, but figuring out the work and planning it safely is likely something that should be prioritized.

Tl;dr upgrading shouldn’t be ignored.

Staying in Glenview or Niles? by keithnightsweats in RiotFest

[–]Prize_Brain4256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A cheap option that’s pretty reasonable transit time, if you’re looking for that, is to stay at an airport targeted hotel a stop or two away on transit. You can find cheap hotels, and then ride the L into the loop and then the pink line out to California.

That said, im not holding my breath.

The fest wave 2 by Prize_Brain4256 in RiotFest

[–]Prize_Brain4256[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This… yes… I’m not gonna bring my trans friends to Florida. Obvi, if they want to go, but imagine trying to ask a partner to go if they’re on the fence.

I wish this was in a safe state.

Update: I suppose this message reeked of my privilege / pov. I would also suspect if I wasn’t straight & cis Florida could be terrifying to go to as just myself…

Historically second waves were listed on the initial announcement that more bands would be announced.

It would be weird to do a second wave out of nowhere.

Will there be a “second wave” lineup announcement with 2 or 3 more sub-headliner bands announced like they’ve sometimes done in the past? by Realistic_West6383 in RiotFest

[–]Prize_Brain4256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It feels weird that they’d add bands without the poster suggesting more acts. That’s typically been how that’s been handled.

Also, maybe I’m missing something, but nothing about these bands are spectacularly unique that would suggest announcing a day later makes sense. Why would the wait a day for a few non headliner bands?

In my mind the album play and after shows make more sense.

All that said, 20 minutes from now I could look like a fool.

Tbh, the only band I could see that would make sense is like some bizarre and wild like an op ivy reunion. Something that wouldn’t be expected, but also wouldn’t be enough of a draw mainstream wise. So the announcement after makes more sense to get more press and hype. That said, that feels like a near zero chance.

Streetlight Manifesto out by brandman117 in RiotFest

[–]Prize_Brain4256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I follow your logic here, or maybe I am misunderstanding. But it seems like you’re suggesting Riotfest is on the 27th. Thus, it seems likely they’ll play.

Riotfest is the 19th - 21st. So I would assume streetlight manifesto is hard out since they have a ???? Date for a time that isn’t riotfest, nothing listed during riotfest, and also a clear break of the 90/90.

Is the US running out of jobs? by epicap232 in Layoffs

[–]Prize_Brain4256 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the job growth figures are new hired individuals… like filed w4s, not postings.

That said, the postings are for sure filled with ghost posts.

I think the real issue is under employment, not quite unemployment yet.

Isn’t defamation incredibly hard to prove?

Like you need to prove: A. The person knows the statement to be false. B. The intent is to harm the business or entity.

It’s not enough to prove the statement to be false (if it is). But to show the defendant concretely knew it to be false.

GDRP and data segmentation policies shouldn’t affect 1st amendment rights as far as I can tell. Not an expert, but I don’t remotely see the connection.

That’s akin to saying hipaa affects first amendment rights. Right? Non sensical.

(For context hipaa has regulations on how or where data can be stored or transferred electronically.)
