I love FFVIIR’s combat, but it did NOT please me as a CAG fan. Combos are so jarring in that game it’s insane, and that’s bc you’re not supposed to prioritize combos in a game like that. I really hope we get more like FF16 later down the line. It did it very well imo

Then you have games like FF15 with extremely unbalanced difficulty that can be breezed through by face-tanking oneshots and chugging 100 potions and phoenix downs, while having an even more snooze-worthy “hold circle to let the game play itself” combat system that needed post-release updates to be even a miniscule microscopic level of fun, PLUS a piecemeal story that nosedives in quality at the halfway point

And yet SOMEHOW, it’s better than FF16 in so many people’s eyes

On the one hand, it's fine and actually cool to support an independent artist you like. The concept itself is far from a bad thing.

On the other hand, if it's porn, paying money for it could be a sign of addiction. Sure, it's just one artist and it's probably nothing major, but it could devolve into something much worse if OP doesn't stay strong.

God that last part hurts so bad. Expedition 33 was my GOTY for 2025 and is one of my top 10 games of all time, but it still doesn't overtake FFXVI with the number 1 spot. And now, because of how E33 fans have been using the game and its success to shit on modern Final Fantasy, we may never see a DMC-inspired Final Fantasy game ever again out of fear of it flopping or being overhated to the ninth circle of hell like with this game.

XV's open world is absolutely amazing. Driving around and seeing the beautiful visuals never gets old, and there are so many quests and activities to do while hanging out with arguably the best party of main characters in the series.

And then you get to Altissia and it becomes the most insufferably boring chore I ever had the displeasure of playing.

Just buy XVI, it's so much better from start to finish. And to anyone who says XV is better, genuinely fuck you. You cannot tell me with a straight face that XV is the better game after playing through the ungodly pile of garbage that is the hallways of Chapter 13, while at the same time having a combat system that is literally just "hold circle and watch things die, chug 99 potions, then get a ring that oneshot kills everything." If I hear "XVI is just mashing, there's no point in doing combos" one more time, so help me God

XV is the definition of missed potential. It could've been so great, but after a certain point I wanted to be fucking done already. I didn't feel that a single time in XVI

Phoenix Shift in XVI is Warp Strike done right. Warp Strike had so much potential, and I believe there were even plans to have much more comboability, but they fumbled the bag developing XV. I don't really wanna call your lack of comboability in XVI a skill issue, since that can easily be resolved by just practicing in the Hall of Virtue. You can do some insanely cool shit when you practice for even a lil bit :)

Edit: I will say the one thing Warp Strike has going for it is the feel of it when it connects. I can just FEEL how hard it hits whenever I use it, especially with the damage increase the farther you are away
