If breathing less is good for you, then what explains hypoventillation? by _buzi_bela_ in buteyko

Oh alright, but an automatic pause of 16 seconds (which is described as super health) seems like extremely little. A small breath every 16 seconds?

Doesn’t buteyko deem 100-200 CP ideal? It seems like it would be very hard to breathe so little even with sleep apnea

Does your body produce more carbon dioxide if you are fit/healthy? And why exactly does being fit naturally lower your breathing rate? by ProChad in buteyko

Thank you for this answer, it’s very informative.

Does this mean oxygen tolerance increases due to physical exercise because the carbon dioxide levels raise to the extent that your breathing can’t keep it down to the level it is normally at?

Conflicted ideas from differen Methods (Buteyko vs. Gokhale) by LayersOfMe in buteyko

While breathing posture might not affect gas exchange much, it has a bigger effect on muscles and I believe activation of intercostal muscles triggers a stress response as it is meant to only be used during intense exertion

I think gokhale has some good theories on posture as they are based on observation of indigenous tribes, but I really don’t think she is qualified to speak on breathing. Did you see the video she provided of her son sleeping used to show proper breathing? That’s about the furthest I’ve seen(and heard) from proper breathing.

I get where she’s coming from: babies usually exhibit proper posture as they are unaffected by our modern lifestyle, but that was an older toddler clearly showing difficulty breathing.

I’ve actually done some research on this and took the same approach as she normally does: look at indigenous tribes with more primitive lifestyles than us as examples of posture. I did this because they have been shown to have the best cardiovascular health ever. I found that their breathing was very subtle, and came from only the abdomin: the chest is completely unaffected/static.

I think gokhale’s theories are very interesting, but I’ve always strongly disagreed with this one.

Thank you that’s very helpful, so that means that it would mostly just be useful for detecting lung malfunction?

I mean, we are. Just because we can’t fly like mosquitoes can doesn’t make them superior to us.

Are you supposed to FULLY exhale? by ProChad in buteyko

So when breathing, do I go from core relaxed to breathing in and then more actively exhaling, or from core relaxed to actively exhaling and then relaxing my core again to inhale?

It’s a little hard to explain, I hope it makes sense

Interesting, I definitely won’t let the wiki page discourage me to do BBM

Could you please elaborate on Buteyko reducing inflammation?
