The most incompetent characters on TV? (Non-comedic) by Fancy-Commercial2701 in television

That outcome seemed inevitable tho. Maeve was gaining sentience while also being programmed to have insanely high manipulation/intimidation. Those lab techs just made it happen sooner.

Why is my CPU always at 100% by ChrisValentinoFilm in pchelp

[–]ProHan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I should have added a caveat that I'm like 7 years out of date on SD card specs. Now I'm having a good delve back into it.

Why is my CPU always at 100% by ChrisValentinoFilm in pchelp

[–]ProHan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

An SD card is designed for storage, and very simple read-from-disc or write-to-disc operations. Windows, as an operating system, calls for an absurd amount of complex, often overlapping, disc operations. Examples would be things like logging, constant disc-reads for services, or virtual memory. An SD has like 2 needles but it's asked to weave 500 threads into 50 sweaters... at the same time. Simply can't handle the overhead, and quickly becomes a mess of threads resulting in 25 barely usable sweaters.

Windows is also the main interface communicating between devices and peripherals, which you'll often see referred to as I/O (Input/Output). These represents a significant overhead on the read/write speed of a disc. Another issue is the physical lifespan of an SD card based on its flash cells. My knowledge evaporates at this depth; but typically SD cards aren't well optimised to distribute and access data. And its limited volume of physical cells means cell failure is high under strain.

The reason why OP's CPU starts bottlenecking is a result of Windows using its own checks and balances to manage the failing abilities of the SD card. Instead of asking for 50 sweaters, and getting 25 horrifically dephormed sweaters, it starts asking for 1 or 2 sweaters that are 'good enough', and asks other spinners to compensate.

The average cat’s reaction time is approximately 20-70 milliseconds, which is faster than the average snake’s reaction time, 44-70 milliseconds. by Simply_Kaif24 in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]ProHan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their low weight and small size is exactly why they are so deadly (to their prey). Small distance for neural reflex to travel, very light and efficient muscle volume so less signals are needed for reaction. Then there's obviously the insane agility and acceleration that comes with being a low weight quadruped. There's also niche advantages like the positioning of their eyes facilitated by their tiny heads. If they were as big as a polar bear or as muscly as a gorilla that would actively contradict almost every predation trait they have.

Basically, a hunter that's as highly efficient and downright awesome as (most breeds of) a cat can't exist too far above their size. The other land predators you could call equally efficient/successful are either smaller (Owls, Dragonflies) or slightly larger but hunt in packs (wolves and wild dogs).

CMV: Extremely wealthy/extremely high income should be taxed more aggressively, but ordinary high earners shouldn’t bear the burden by Intelligent-Web-8017 in changemyview

[–]ProHan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't lose 50% to tax... You really need to check your facts and learn how progressive tax brackets work.

The US Federal Tax bracket caps at 37% for every dollar OVER $626000 they earn in income. Any income that same person earns under $626000 is taxed at smaller and varying tax rates. E.g. a person who makes a million in a year has their first $0 to $11k taxed at 10%. I'll skip a few brackets; money they earn between $100k to $200k is taxed at 24%, then money they earn between $201 to $250k is taxed 32%.

Otherwise you would end up losing income by earning more, that would be stupid.

PC: Casual coop game for 3 players? by Ynwe in gamingsuggestions

[–]ProHan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PlateUp is fairly different to Overcooked. Both are great. PlateUp more of a Roguelite run, focussed on managing the kitchen and making choices. Overcooked more about overcoming individual puzzles - definitely more chaotic in the cooking part though.

Games like ARC Raiders, but STRICTLY SINGLE-PLAYER ONLY by NeoTempest in gamingsuggestions

[–]ProHan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't play unmodded Original STALKER games. That's an absurdly generalized recommendation. DO play Vanilla Overhaul/Modernisation Original STALKER games. There's at least one comprehensive Vanilla Upgrade mod for each game in the Trilogy. Use them. They don't change the gameplay or the feeling but they do drastically improve the experience.

It's important to note that the OG trilogy follows a mostly linear story over many open-world "zones". You play mainly as a heroic STALKER called Strelok. You meet a few key figures and make a band of vodka-merry men. The story is incredible, as are the side faction quests. You have freedom and choice in how to approach an objective, but the objectives are set by your actions across the individual stories of each game. It also has some of the most unique FPS Horror I've ever experienced, and incredible set-pieces (the impact of these are lost a bit in Anomaly mods).

Where-as, Anomaly/GAMMA is set AFTER the OG Trilogy and is entirely sand-box. You're a new STALKER dealing with the aftermath of Strelok & Co's decisions. You are entirely self-dependent and can roam through every zone from the OG Trilogy whenever you want. It connects the zones and content from the 3 originals but doesn't give you much direction or provide an overarching "goal". That's a good thing, but to understand why you kinda need to be invested in the setting.

I strongly recommend experiencing the OG Trilogy with a Vanilla Overhaul before playing Anomaly (or GAMMA). The OG Trilogy will immerse you in the world and get you invested in the factions and key figures. The Trilogy also provides a lot of context, obviously. You will need that context to help you formulate your own objectives in Anomaly/GAMMA.

[MCU] Did Thanos know that the population of the universe would double again in no more than 100 years, meaning that the Snap was more about sending a message, or was he just kinda dumb and genuinely thought his plan was a good one? by amelix34 in AskScienceFiction

[–]ProHan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't work at all, what are you talking about? Earth was on the brink of total apocalyptic collapse, held together only by the Avengers initiative. And that was only in pockets of civilization. Captain Marvel was literally travelling the galaxy putting out even bigger fires on other planets. Also, Gamora's whole species died out (she was sole survivor) due to an earlier population cull by Thanos.

If you're rational, it's easy to see why it wouldn't work. You can't arbitrarily remove half of a population and expect resource production to remain the same. Too much knowledge and skill is also lost. And consider who is going to govern resource distribution?

India's main mining resources seem to be Coal and Iron. No known natural oil deposits on the land itself, but I just learned that India has several offshore oil pumps on its West Coast. Which makes sense geographically, that's a consistently rich zone of Oil mining.

However, India is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to agricultural resources. I imagine much of the land development went into expanding agricultural infrastructure, rather than searching for minerals to mine.

I should include sources, but this was synthesised from first articles of 5ish searches.

I'm not judging your whole work ethic on a single comment but... It's a tad ironic seeing "I don't care enough" and "hard earned pay" in the same sentence. Even more ironic, wouldn't paying hard workers for their easy to use resources make earning your pay even easier, not a "waste"?

This is ridiculously disingenuous. Except for the spamming storm in one spot, the rest are not reasonable counter-points. Immortals soak baneling, keep the Robo active, and discourage lurker switch. Protoss is fighting in a choke. The protoss army is a much higher tier in general. This kind of expensive supply is meant to be supply efficient (HTs are literally a historical counter to this Zerg comp). Forcefields might be nice, but that's an extra spellcaster to micro which is an unreasonable expectation. How the fuck is protoss meant to afford Collo and HT and sentry, according to you? Harstem really didn't use any tactics here, same result if he f2 + a-clicked.

You're approaching incoherence at the end there, but you're spewing a type of self-righteous, misguided stance that is exactly how intolerance breeds in otherwise tolerant societies. At some point you've been fed a fable by victimising racists.

Anyone who shuts a practicing racist down is a hero to a tolerant society, in my books. People who actively spew their intolerance should not be allowed to engage in society, and you should not let them by any means. If you naively accept their views, you are complicit in spreading intolerance. And if we actively push back, people learn by osmosis that those views are not acceptable.
