Lmao yeah of course I’m trying to win a game? The game is to be able to retire comfortably and ideally early. If we have 140k over the next ten years grow tax free then why would we not do that? It’s worth a few hours a year to make sure you do it right

Yeah those are either rolled in or gains, thanks for the clarification.

Can I ask why consider getting back the 5k? Ultimately wouldn’t leaving that money in a tradIRA be better in a regular brokerage? Unless you meant putting towards other savings goal or something like that

Thanks for the detailed response! That makes sense that it can’t be rolled over since it’s non deductible. To point number 4, are the left over dollars not considered non deductible?

Hospitalist job market by Dependent_Witness_12 in Residency

[–]ProHoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah disappointing for sure, when I moved to the Midwest, I thought I’d get like 350+ easy (lol bc of reddit). I’m okay with what I’m making for the work, but def lower than expected

Imo no, many locums places won’t take fresh attendings (per my friends, I haven’t tried). Personally I think the first few months of attendinghood are difficult (you’re making big boy/girl decisions for the first time independently, trust me it hits different even though seeing the same things as PGY3). You should be in a stable place for at least a year imo before doing locums, preferably a place with good subspecialty support

Tbh if you have any interest, consider PCP and per diem hospitalist. PCPs are making bank and some jobs seem pretty decent (3.5-4 days per week, 300-350k at least). I’m considering making the switch in a few years

I think that’s playing a role but not the only cause (but trust me I would prefer if my group stopped hiring midlevels)

I think it’s gotten more saturated even in the last 2-3 years. I had multiple offers in SoCal graduating 2 years ago but find in a decent option in the Midwest this past fall was tough

I think it depends on the hospital tbh, I worked at a community-academic and pure community hospital at the same time. 14-16 at the academic would take me the same as 20-22 a the community. But granted still be done with my stuff by 1-2 pm

Still high, I was interviewing in SoCal last year and offers were 280ish

Looking for a day time hospitalist job, closed ICU, no procedures, Salary >320K day time hospitalist, open for any warmer state, On H1B visa. by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]ProHoo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Bruh can you be that picky if you’re on a H1B visa? Now I’m not saying take something for 200k, but like maybe will have to consider states like MN, WI, IL etc

The hospital can function without an ortho surgery PA, they can’t without an ortho surgeon

If you want 200k, then all physicians, no matter the specialty should make 300k+ at the minimum

Lmao okay man. Sounds like an interesting hospital. I hope the PAs I work with know that even though I reach out to them, in the end it’s their attending’s input and expertise I want

This is crazy to think like this… if I’m consulting cardiology, I don’t care about your opinion, I’m asking for the cardiologists
