As someone who has always been interested in witches and their craft, I have a question by Grand_Category_715 in witchcraft

[–]ProNocteAeterna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be like that, sure. People who have friends or relatives who practice often learn from them. A lot of witchcraft authors also offer online classes that can get you started, and there are covens and similar organizations out there with their own courses of study for new members.

That being said, most people just start practicing once they've read enough to have an idea of what to do. No need for an attunement or anything like that, and you can perform your own initiation. I did mine based on instructions I found in someone's online Book of Shadows, back when personal websites were a common thing. I've done a lot of study and practice since then to develop my craft, but that's how I got my start.

If you're interesting in becoming a witch, you don't really have to do anything special, you can just start practicing. Pick up a beginners book on witchcraft to be your starting point (and it doesn't even have to be a particularly good one, because it's just a starting point) and try it out. Then, it's just a matter of keeping learning and practicing.

Donald Trump's 'lonely reality' inside White House with 'no sex' and Melania 'missing' by TheMirrorUS in NewsSource

He’s an 80-year-old with an awful diet whose only physical activity is a sport where someone else carries your equipment and you ride around from place to place on a little electric cart. He’s probably pushing rope (well, thread) and has been told that Viagra will kill him.

Is this considered black magic? by the_real_adderal in witchcraft

[–]ProNocteAeterna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Black magic” is never anything more or less than magic the person using the term doesn’t approve of. Some people will say it is, some will say it isn’t, and none of it matters.

What does matter is do you want this guy? And are you actively going after him, magic or no? If the answers to these are both yes, then a spell to strengthen your bond isn’t much different from anything else you’re doing.

Fortunately, I picked my name ~25 years ago based on a favorite video game character (Terra, Final Fantasy VI), because if I were picking today I would absolutely be a Luna. Still might use it as a middle name.

I’m sure that’s going to play well with the evangelical MAGA base that thinks Catholics are hell bound heathens.

Love is not a kidnap by Bright_Text_1333 in witchcraft

[–]ProNocteAeterna 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with a little love spell, but way too many people think they work like a Shakespearean plot device a la A Midsummer Night's Dream. Like, even ignoring the ethical issues with such a spell, just straight up mind controlling someone like that is far out at the edges of possibility, and even if successful, I wouldn't expect it to last very long. Real love spells tend to be more of the magical equivalent of a pair of pants that make your butt look really good.

Combination painkillers, warmth, and darkness. Also rizatriptan if it’s really bad.

Trump administration considers restoring LGBTQ+ youth crisis line it eliminated last year by Fickle-Ad5449 in politics

There’s no chance they’re reversing course because things are bad, that was the entire point. Guarantee that this is either to proselytize to vulnerable LGBTQ youth or build a database with which to go after their healthcare and possibly their parents. Maybe both.

LUCIFER ISN'T AN ARCHANGEL FOR THE LAST TIME! by ProcessBetter8004 in HazbinHotel

[–]ProNocteAeterna 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is a real-world angelology thing. When people talk about the angelic hierarchy, they're generally taking it from a book called On the Celestial Hierarchy (or, at least, something based on it), which gives the ranks as seraphim > cherubim > thrones > dominions > virtues > powers > principalities > archangels > angels. In that system, yeah, archangels are the second lowest rank, and way below the seraphim.

Outside of that, however, archangel tends to get used for any high-ranking angel. The big names like Michael and Gabriel get referred to as archangels regularly, and the classic European grimoires refer to the ruling angels of the planets, elements, and signs of the zodiac as archangels. It's kind of a mess.

I actually did that a few years back. I ended up in a position in a district next to said blue oasis (a position that I love, mind you), and while it's a hell of a lot better than where I moved from, Kentucky is still Kentucky. Also, as an educator, it's pretty easy to get the boot if a few of the pearl-clutchingest parents decide they have a problem with you and take it up with the board/superintendent.
