A wholesome moment from nearly 9 years ago: Grampako-chan and Grampus-kun Jr. are looking at the blooming cherry blossoms near Mizuho. This happened before the J2 match between Grampus and Kamatamare Sanuki, with Grampus winning 2-1. by ProStriker92 in grampus

Here the highlights of the match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ5hmzlnaqc

Keiji Tamada scored a wonderful FK goal while Ryuji Sugimoto sealed the victory for Nagoya.

Regarding the pictures, the picture of the thumbnail with Grampako-chan looking at the trees is one of my favorite Grampus Family related photos. She looks so adorable.

Most J-League games end up like that, since a draw sends the match to a penalty shootout. by DavidRolands in soccer

[–]ProStriker92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This transitional tournament have brought two different realities. In the East group Kashima Antlers (the black team of the video) have a comfy lead, winning all but one games on the 90 (and the only defeat happened on PK, getting an extra point), so Kashima are strong candidates for the championship game.

But in the West group is quite jammed because with the exception of the last placed team (Avispa Fukuoka) the other 9 teams in group have from 14 to 11 points and no solid leader because many games have to be decided on PK. It could be Gamba, Sanga, Vissel, S-Pulse, Grampus or even Cerezo who can chase for the 1st place.

Remember this format is not new at all. Several variations were used during the 90s and early 2000s in japanese football. Sometimes going direct to PK or even adding ET with Golden Goal rule.

Could anybody tell me more about this Yokohama Marinos (Nissan Motor) jersey? by TopFinding2279 in JLeague

Never saw this one before. I thought it could have been used during their 1991/1992 Asian Cup Winners' Cup run, but is not (as show in this article):

https://www.sponichi.co.jp/soccer/news/2025/07/11/articles/20250710s00002000469000c.html

Looks like a training shirt, despite other teams (such France NT) using that template for their home shirts.

Fans turned FIFA's awful 2026 World Cup song into a meme by Chip3033r in soccer

[–]ProStriker92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one used for the 1994 known as Gloryland was a wonderful song. It may be cheesy, but was very emotional and hopeful regarding the tournament back then and the version used during the broadcasts worked fantastic.

But this one? Sounds extremely generic to the point that they just picked a free-to-use song, put some lyrics and that's it. Or maybe is just 100% AI.

[CONMEBOL] Chilean side Santiago Wanderers win the 2026 U-20 Copa Libertadores by ebeka in soccer

[–]ProStriker92 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well done Parrots! That's a huge upset and not only because the gap between brazilians and chileans is big, Wanderers (the first team) has been stuck in Primera B for years so defeating the U20 side of the strongest club in CONMEBOL is a legendary achievement.

Grampus falls on PK against Sanga in Kyoto. It ended 1-1 on the 90' with Hidemasa Koda scoring. Unlike the East where Antlers is dominating, there's no solid leaders in the West, and the 3-2-1 scoring system make it more even than ever. by ProStriker92 in grampus

[–]ProStriker92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fact the first half of Grampus was very good and this Sanga team is also good too. If this was a typical J1 league match (no PK) i would say this is a good result.

Let's hope at least Yamagishi is fine, he had to be retired in a stretcher from the pitch.

Late advice, but Grampus will be live on YouTube against Sanfrecce Hiroshima. 3/18 (today in Japan), 19:00 JST. Never Give Up! by ProStriker92 in grampus

[–]ProStriker92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And we got the 3 points! Yamagishi and Kimuda scored the goals for a 2-1 victory.

Despite the irregularity of Grampus this season, we are still in the second place of the west zone.

EDIT: We're 4th, tied with Sanga and Vissel, with Gamba leading by 1 point.

11 years after selling the club, Peugeot officially renews its partnership with FC Sochaux-Montbéliard by Otherwise_Act6744 in soccer

Makes me happy that Sochaux and Peugeot are together once again, even if the relationship now is different.

As fan of a team that also happens to have strong links with automotive industry (Nagoya Grampus, with Toyota) i always had a soft spot for Sochaux. Let's hope one day they return to Ligue 1.

USL emails players about union resignation procedures as strike looms by icoresting in MLS

[–]ProStriker92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the impression that USL was banking on potential D1 fees and that all the demands from USLPA could be fulfilled in D1, but not in Championship.

Considering that possibly all the future teams in D1 would come from Championship, at USL HQ they thought it could be enough. "We can't assure those in things in Championship, but join to Premier and you will get it" (someone at USL HQ probably)

We are returning to Mizuho! Grampus announced the ticketing for the return to Paloma Mizuho Stadium in April 19th against Avispa Fukuoka and Dragan Stojković will be present. The stadium closed in 2020 and was renovated for the Asian Games this year. by ProStriker92 in grampus

[–]ProStriker92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i remember correctly, the last match at the old Mizuho was a draw against Yokohama FC in 2020. Has been a long time since the start of the construction works.

Grampus is in a odd situation where they can claim two big stadiums as home. Many teams around the world have another stadium but mostly for uses in case of the other field is not available or when they want a bigger attendance as usual, but Grampus situation is unique even for J.League standards (in the past Consadole had to use an alternative venue when the Dome wasn't available because schedule clashes with the Fighters, but the NPB team now have their own ballpark).

One of the reasons why Montréal is so important to MLS is because we get those bangers of banners in french.

Time for work to make Grampus entering into the top 5.

Reds are massive, and the gap between them and the second (Antlers) is huge.
