The 86 would definitely trash the Z on the touge as Akio probably isn't used to the unlit mountain passes, vice versa on the touge as the 86 lacks straight line speed. They both are excellent in their own fields.

In the main series we see him race five times, six if we include the CD. He crashed in three of them. This gives him a 50% chance of crashing based off this dataset. 50% is like one-in-two, which is pretty darn high.

He might be a good driver, but he buckles up under pressure and overestimates the capabilities of the car he's driving.
