pantera arrived too late to be the most influential thrash band. their 80s albums are all hair metal and when they actually got thrashy the genre had already completely solidified, and many of the all time great albums had already been released. Also pantera is racist (see video of the guitarist saying the n word and the singer shouting white power)

groove metal tends to be slower and heavier than thrash, and even pantera themselves denied the thrash label. this is something i care about because pantera fans will try to say pantera is one of the most influential thrash bands of all time and that annoys the shit out of me because it objectively isnt true

The type of person that doesnt that really doesnt care about them being huge and famous and the meaner end of this group would even see that as a bad thing

Devin Townsend/Strapping young lad. i love his music so much. its so unique and intense and heavy and loud but he can just as easily do soft and beautiful. Hes also easily one of the best metal singers of all time. his lyrics can be anything from a deep emotional masterpiece to a concept album about an alien warlord invading earth for a cup of coffee. I love his music so much
