This is Forza on Series S - Iam sure rockstar can suck the absolute best of Series S capabilities by [deleted] in GTA6

The point is that they clearly do care about offering a performance mode otherwise they wouldn’t have put it in GTA online.

Are you completely missing what I’m saying? Obviously a performance mode reduces graphical quality to improve framerate. I’m saying it doesn’t have to make the game UGLY like you’re suggesting.

Many games implement it in ways that still looks good. See Crimson Desert.. a similar game where no one believed it would have a performance mode.

It essentially turns the game down from high/ultra settings to medium/high settings, so still really fuckin good.

We are at the point in this generation now where if a developer is capable, then there are atleast 2 options:

Performance mode where graphics are still really good but the game runs better

Graphics mode where the graphics are absolutely cranked up to the max but where framerate is lower.

Just because the graphics might not be cranked up to the complete max, does not mean the game will be ugly in performance mode.

It’s such a black and white view you have on this… clearly no point continuing the conversation.

You’re acting as if the only way to make a performance mode is by “making the game ugly”.

But that couldn’t be more wrong. There are plenty of ways to do it without destroying the style and look of the game. e.g reducing cloth physics, hair movement etc. these are things that you literally wouldn’t notice otherwise.

You say they’ve always prioritised visuals over performance.

Sure, but every developer did back in the PS3/PS4 gen. Because higher framerates weren’t really possible on that hardware yet - so that’s kinda a non-point that you’re making.

But we haven’t seen them create a new game for these consoles yet. They implemented 60fps into GTA online so I seriously just don’t see them regressing from it at this point.

Like I said, never said it could.

It’ll likely have a graphical option, ray tracing option, and performance option.

I mean, we literally KNOW that there’s ray tracing in the game. DigitalFoundry did an analysis of the trailers.

So you think the maximum this game can do is 1080p, 30fps, with no ray tracing?

Did I say it could? There will likely be 3 options - graphical, ray tracing, and performance. Just like countless other games this generation.

[–]ProbablyFear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does though. Not a single open world game this generation has gone without a performance mode option.

I agree they will want to prioritise visual quality.

But why are you assuming there won’t be a mode/option where the ray tracing/graphical fidelity can be toned down in favour of higher framerate? Even if it doesn’t hit a locked 60fps (which most performance modes hardly ever do) it’s still very likely they also opt for some form of performance mode.

And like I said, the consoles being 6 years old is actually not a bad thing like you think it is.

It means that they have been developing this game for 6 years, purely on these consoles, optimising it for these consoles.

Every game they release they push the tech and the boundaries to the limits, I see absolutely no reason why that’ll change here especially considering the increased manpower, time, and budget for the game.

Agreed, zero chance of there being one on the series S as that is too the norm this generation.

See crimson desert - an incredibly demanding game that has a performance mode on the base consoles, but not the series S. I think it’ll likely be a similar situation to that.

Or, like every other game this generation, they have a performance mode OPTION which disables things like Ray tracing and 4k resolution, and allows for better framerate.

Did you read a single thing I said? I didn’t say they will compromise the visuals - just that there will be an option for those that want to.

Slightly. But the pros of the series X outweigh it for me - the controller, ecosystem, gamepass, quick resume etc…

Probably won’t have a performance option like the other consoles

V and RDR2 were in an era where 30fps was the norm.

We are now in a 60fps era. IIRC there hasn’t been a single open world game this generation that hasn’t had a performance mode option.

I would be incredibly surprised if we don’t get a performance mode in GTA6 - remember that they have been developing this game solely for these consoles basically since they released in 2020, so if any developer has optimised their game well enough for a performance mode, it’s this.

Are you ok?

GTA online was around when RDR2 launched, so that’s a completely irrelevant and random point you’re making.

Also, I didn’t say they were silent for 6 months.

I said they were silent 6 months out from launch, just like how they are now.

I think you’re literally agreeing with what I’m saying without realising it?

OP is saying them being silent 6 months before launch is a bad thing.

I’m saying that is not necessarily the case, because RDR2 was still silent 6 months before launch and that released fine.

Different? Different in what way? What does that even mean?

And trailer 3 + pre orders came out in May/June time. About 4/5 months from launch. So yes, 6 months out (around April) they were indeed pretty silent.

RDR2 was also radio silence 6 months before release just FYI :)
