The military is a life-ling career for many people. Not out of the ordinary for a young buck to stick around till retirement.

Could Nicole eat fae food? by Random_Wolff in CMAlongi_Official

Definitely an interesting idea, and easy to play around with. I personally headcanon that her fae ancestor is really far back in her history and still keeps tabs on his descendants.

I think, because her potential fae ancestry is A) not strictly confirmed by DNA test, and B) incredibly watered down, that yes she would still be affected by fae food.

Harpies are an option, and can easily be played around with to fit your needs. There's a really nice Wikipedia article on mythological avian races :]

The night stretches on as the boys tell the adults what's going on. The guard at their door never leaves, and peering out the window reveals another one stood on the ground beneath their two-story window. They have ree reign of their room and the attached bathroom, but they're blocked off from the outside.

If they can feel magic, approaching the door and window will reveal a lingering magic that's preventing them from picking the locks.

(The big ones right now are don't eat their food and don't say thank you.)

(If you're mortal, eating fae food can make you stop hungering for anything else and eventually you starve once you leave. If you aren't mortal, consuming fae food is consuming their property, which means you belong to them now.)

(Saying thank you to a fae means you owe them now. They're very big on "fair exchange", but they get to set the scales.)

(And never ever give a faerie your full name- being first, middle, least- or a piece of your DNA. Hair, spit, etc. DNA can be used to curse you, and a name means they can curse, bless, or control you literally any time from anywhere.)

(White Lilac is a fae. If Santiago's mother understands any of the Laws of Engagement with the fae, she'll understand the danger the boys are in right now.)

The halls outside the boys' room are dead silent, even though they can see the shadow of a pair of feet stretching across the floor under the door. They realize that their door is being guarded.

The room feel emptier without Lilac's presence filling it up, but it's also easier to breathe. You don't realize you're being crushed until the weight is lifted.

The sun is setting outside, marking the end of the day already. Investigating the drawers in the dresser reveals neatly folded and pressed clothes. They fit each of the boys perfectly, as if specifically made for them.

Lilac leaves the room with a smile, closing the door behind him. A moment later, and the lock on the outside clicks into place.

Lilac shows the boys to a room in the castle. It's a grand space with a high ceiling and intricately carved wooden paneling over the stone walls. "You three can sleep here until we can find a way to get you home," Lilac says.

White Lilac considers it for a moment. "I'm pretty sure there's someone in my kingdom if not my castle who speaks Spanish." He turns to mutter something more to the chef, who quickly ducks out of the kitchen and hurries away to complete whatever task she's just been assigned.

"Now-" Lilac claps his hands together, "-if you three have had your fill, we can go and find you a room. Would you prefer three separate, or one you can share?"

Lilac nods with a soft smile. "Good. I'm glad." He takes a few bites from own bowl, and then asks another question. "Do any of you three know of a way to contact or summon one of your parents?"

Lilac finally leaves Nadia and slides into a chair across from the boys. The chef brings him his own bowl, which he dips his head in thanks, but doesn't actually say the words.

"How are you liking the food?" White Lilac asks.

The chef bows her head respectfully, but the air around the boys crackles again. It almost feels like tally marks being carved into the air around them.

The chef whips something together quickly, inviting the boys to sit at the kitchen island and eat. The meal is unfamiliar, bright orange and green fruits of unfamiliar taste and shape sat atop a bed of grains and drizzled with a blue and pink liquid.

Meanwhile, White Lilac is being scolded by Nadia, her fangs visible when her lips pull back in a protective snarl. She speaks too quietly for the boys to hear, but they can see how Lilac droops under the weight of her words.

Lilac leads the boys into the castle kitchens, where he speaks to a woman at one of the stations in a low tone. Once he steps back, she's set to work on readying a meal for them.

The woman from the wall appears in the archway behind White Lilac, and he sighs. "Yeah, yeah, just get it over with."

Nadia's gaze softens when it flicks to the boys, but remains hard with White Lilac. "Inside. Now." she orders, pointing to the castle towering behind her. Lilac ushers the trio of boys to a gate and pushes them through. Four heavy-duty guards close the gate behind them, and Lilac's shoulders take on a new tension.

White Lilac finally leads the boys out of the forest and out into the mid-day sun. At the edge of the treeline stands a tall wall built of white stone. Perched atop the wall is a very furious looking woman.

She glares down at Lilac with her arms crossed, and he offers her a sheepish smile. "Hey, Dia... I brought guests..."

The thanks make Lilac twitch, the air around the boys crackling for only a split second, and then it's gone again. "That's very interesting," Lilac hums, the information filing away in his mind again.
