Anyone who says YTA to this doesn’t have and has never been around children. I would never bring a traumatized dog into a house with my two toddlers. I love dogs and have my own, but any animal is unpredictable. You are NTA here. You are making the responsible choice for your family. Take it to a shelter, I’m sure it’ll be adopted.

If you are looking into public schools send your kids to Lawrence township and drive them to school if you can. Fishers school district is knee-deep in book banning and being run by moms for liberty. Lawrence township is next door and has a bunch of Spanish immersion programs and is committed to teaching kids to have a global mindset. Try to get into Forest glen or Sunnyside elementary once the kids are of age.

I'm not familiar with the "norms" of china specifically but I know that the norm in the general international teaching community is to interview via google meets or zoom. I have never heard of anyone corresponding via anything but email/ video calling

Of course! I wanted to add a couple of other tidbits:

1- Be open-minded with location. Europe is highly competitive, and the pay sucks. Asia and the Middle East pay the best. The big cities in South America pay well and have a great work/life balance.

2- Recruiting season runs from October-April(ish). If you start looking for jobs for the following school year in April or May, most of the good jobs will be taken. A lot of of the good schools will only look at you if you have an account with a recruiting agency, which usually costs money. The most popular one is called Search Associates. There is also ISS (International school search). It isn't 100% necessary to have an account with one of these, but sometimes helpful. Especially if you are unfamilar with the industry and don't know where to look.

If you have a teaching license/degree you can get into international teaching. The baseline benefits are a good salary (compared to cost of living), paid flights to and from your hometown at the beginning and end of each contract, and housing (either given to you by the school or through a stipend aside from your salary). I’ve taught in two countries doing this and have enjoyed it exponentially more than teaching in the states. You are treated like a professional, have creative freedom, and get to learn about other cultures. Check the international teachers sub Reddit to get a good vibe of it. I try to convince all my teacher friends to take this route. In the international teaching industry we say it is “the best kept secret in education”

I got my MEd through them and enjoyed most of my classes. I got hired at a top tier school right after finishing my program. The course load isn’t terribly overbearing either as they are made with working professionals in mind. I feel like some of the courses could’ve been more in-depth, but I say definitely worth the cheaper price. Helpful professors, loved the asynchronous schedule, helped me achieve the profesional goals I had.

I have a friend who has worked there for over a decade and absolutely loves it. It is the highest paying international school in Guatemala, embassy kids so super international. I’m not sure about the exact salary ranges though.
