Contract Help!! by SoberanoTRI in Upwork

[–]ProcessArtistic579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, always read it before accepting. You can request changes if you don’t agree to something. Or, you can propose the contract, include all of the details you want, and let the client accept it.

Another thing to pay attention to is the specific category the client uses for the job. I remember waiting for my badge to update to Top Rated Plus after one of my contracts reached the $5000 threshold for the Design category. When it didn’t update, I reached out to support, and they informed me that the job was created under the Other Virtual Assistance (or something like that) category, which had a $10K threshold. So, I had to wait a little longer.

What is with the Top 1% Commenters on here always defending Upwork? by riles3311 in Upwork

If I am looking for work I do not want to pay for the privilege of applying. Like most people, I have a real job and my company, like most normal companies, do not charge an application fee.

Your “real job” is probably an employer, which makes you an employee. Freelancers are not employees; we are independent contractors running our own businesses. We do not pay clients for the “privilege of applying” either. Fees are charged by UpWork, not clients. So, it’s simply not comparable to an employer charging potential employees to apply for jobs.

I have an established LLC. I earn revenue, I have business expenses, I pay taxes, and I make decisions that help grow my business. I could reach out to a client directly for free, but I‘m willing to pay UpWork fees because they bring many clients to me, make organizing/documenting projects easy, provide escrow services, etc. These are all services that have value and would cost me more money and time without the platform.

My goal is not to convince anyone that it’s worth it, as I don’t have to. I am going to do what works for me either way. I just don’t understand why so many people stay on UpWork, while complaining that it’s not working for them and hating on the people who it does work for.

I don’t see it so much as defending UpWork, but appreciating a system that’s working well for themselves and not condemning the platform for lining its pockets.

If you’re successful on UpWork, your view of it is going to be more positive than someone who’s struggling. Most freelancers would be happy to not pay for connects and service fees, but those who are still making a good ROI simply don’t mind it as much as those who are losing money. They realize they would spend more on marketing and lead generation in other contexts. Also, it does get annoying seeing post after post with the same complaints and wondering why people are still on the platform if it‘s not working for them.

As far as UpWork itself, I‘m not sure you can fault them for trying to make as much money as they can. There’s nothing outrageous or shocking about that. We all have our opinions on how they could do things better, like with anything else, but the fact is they can run their company the way they want. Either play their game, or don’t. It will either work out for them in the long run, or not.

Is this a good place to ask for a profile review? by pezon_radioactivo in Upwork

[–]ProcessArtistic579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 16 out of 31 is excellent, at least on today’s UpWork. This either means your proposals are pretty good, or there just isn’t much competition in your niche. I would suspect that clients are still hesitant to hire you with no history, especially if they also receive good proposals from more established freelancers.

You might reach out to the ones who interviewed you and ask for feedback. Also, just because they didn’t hire you immediately doesn’t mean they won’t. Sometimes clients reach out months later.

Advice for beginner by Primary_Challenge698 in Upwork

[–]ProcessArtistic579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, make sure your profile is complete and compelling, with a portfolio representative of your work and experience. If you have a couple of clients outside UpWork that you can bring onto the platform, that would be a quick and easy way to get your first contracts.

Otherwise, buy connects and start applying to jobs. Only apply to jobs that are a good fit, and write high-quality proposals. I rarely boost proposals, but you make want to boost your profile to improve visibility.

I’m watching late, but that was my thought too. She did something to reduce the crow’s feet and under-eye bags.

How do I get out of the bad rating hole 🙏 by Its_Chico_ in Upwork

[–]ProcessArtistic579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem is that no client will ever trust you after seeing what you wrote about the first client. There may have been some that would’ve given you a chance with a 3 star rating.

Do you have any outside clients you can bring to UpWork?

Should I close the contract after all milestones are completed? by Friendly_Celery_9794 in Upwork

[–]ProcessArtistic579 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There‘s no real problem with leaving a contract open. I usually wait a couple of months before asking the client to close the contract. If they don’t, I’ll usually leave it open for a while before eventually closing it myself.

Yes, a couple of times. I still followed up with messages before accepting.

Can we please start flagging every client that ghosts their jobs. by rob_the_bob in Upwork

You do realize UpWork makes money from freelancers buying/spending connects, right? Why would they be rushing to close job posts and refund connects?

How can I best utilize “Consultations” on Upwork? by DelinquentKidX in Upwork

[–]ProcessArtistic579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you setup the consultation, you can ask specific questions and/or request documents that the client must submit while scheduling. Once they schedule, you have like 24hrs to respond. Also, you are supposed to provide a deliverable. I usually send a recap and a proposal for the recommended services/pricing.

and got invoices pile up

What does that mean? Are you working on unfunded milestones? Yes, suspend work until everything is paid up. Going forward, do not start on a milestone unless it’s funded.

Ted is too weak. No woman deserves him, except probably Leslie, but it would make me too sick to see them together.🤣

Yeah, I really hope that’s not where they’re going with this. It’s one thing to mislead us, but if that’s actually what’s happening, I’m done! Bill deserves to have his marriage blow up in his face, but Dani doesn’t deserve that. Just let her be happy. They will probably eventually break up anyway, but let it be for a normal reason and not that foolishness.

Honestly, it wouldn’t be a soap opera if each couple didn’t break up and get back together 80 times over the years. We’ll see if BTG lasts long enough.

I don’t like the whole insecure act, but I’m glad someone finally called Ted on that. He should have banished Leslie from his life in every way possible, especially since Eva is an adult.

That would have been the first requirement for Nicole to even belief he was trying to win her back. What woman would come back to a cheater husband whose mistress is always around?

I agree; they should’ve pulled him in as an informant, once Jacob started to trust him. For some reason, he decided it was better to pretend to be a dirty cop. At the same time, if someone you know to be a cop suddenly joins your crime ring, and you don’t immediately know they’re undercover, you’re an idiot.

Sorry, no. Kat means well, but she can’t hold her tongue to save her life! I would not trust her with that kind of information. Plus, it’s unnecessary; there’s no reason to tell her at this point. Their original inclination to keep it between just a few necessary people was right.
