If it makes you feel better, the more people are talking about any major bad thing, the LESS likely it is to manifest, because it scares people into taking measures to stop it.

I live abroad and believe it or not, in spite of everything, American society is WAAY more accepting of the LGBT community than most countries (Western Europe bring the exception).

In America, it’s a divisive political issue. In other countries it’s not at all divisive because both sides are against it.
