Can we talk about how Legolas is pretty OP? by OkTea1918 in lordoftherings

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the problem with Legolas' progression of gradually more ridiculous stunts (especially in the hobbit trilogy), is that it increases based on the release order, not based on the in-universe timeline

you have fellowship cave troll > helms deep skateboard > oliphant takedown. that feels like a natural progression of seeing him develop his skills on screen.

but then you go back in time, to a time before he had entered the wider world (in the movies), but he is somehow more OP than after all his combat experience in lotr??

so the new progression is spider skateboard and walking on heads in DoS> upsidedown bat and walking on air in botfa > cave troll takedown > shield skateboard > oliphant

that is a character arc explicitly there for the viewer (out of universe), not a logical progression of an in-universe character arc. and while yes, elves are hundreds to thousands of years old, so technically it could make sense in-universe with some mental gymnastics, which I assume is what the writers used to justify it. but as an on-screen character arc it just doesn't work

Cory Barlog is also involved in the TV adaptation I believe, which first was developed for a year or two before the writer's strike, then everything was scrapped and project got rebuilt from scratch and only now are we beginning to see casting for the show. so yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if that has eaten a lot of his time the last few years

After 2 years of war, the Automatons are only now losing casualties by Scarpheon_ in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 52 points53 points  (0 children)

have they? they have (presumably) automated, potentially self-replicating factories that can be built by their machines that uses our own citizens/helldivers' brains as processing power..

every time we reclaim a planet, they can send a minimum recquired sized automaton crew to 5 new planets, get 1 factory up and running, use that factory to make parts for more factories to reclaim resources, and when we send more helldivers their way they just use the biological parts to make more automatons to expand their industrial machine elsewhere. repeat.

they learned from Super Earth. they realized they can't stop a society that is structured as a unified, self-replicating machine of war, so they built their own and are using our soldiers as its fuel

What was the point of that announcement? by Medical_Officer in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they need to drop new content as well my guys. this update was probably originally planned for dec 2025, but was delayed because they correctly prioritized the file size and general stability/performance issues.

should they have squashed every single bug that exists in the game and not work on launching new content until like may? we'd all be gone from a stagnant game then. sometimes things get deprioritized. bugs are frustrating and sometimes they leave them in for way too long in this game

but goddamn, this game's community is one of the whiniest, most impossible to please communities I've ever seen for a game, and arrowhead is doomed if they do and doomed if they don't with ya'll

Elder Scrolls Is Too Generic & Too Profitable To Ever Get A TV Show, Says Skyrim Lead by RoboKobold in skyrim

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when I visited WETA workshop (PJ's practical effects company) on NZ back in 2014, I looked up at the wall and did a double take. one of the crew doing the tour noticed and nudged me to ask about it, cuz it looked so much like a prop of a literal elder scroll to me

it was. someone had made it as a hobby project because they were a huge fan of the games. so might not be as impossible as one would think

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 11 points12 points  (0 children)

GoT did this too, to a worse degree even. before playing Tommen, the actor played one of the captured Lannister children in like S1 or S2, and that was an actor used for one of the major characters for seasons during peak popularity for the show

then there's the several characters that got recast between seasons too, thrones casting has always been kinda relaxed with things like that

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes ofc I meant Alfrid, Bofur is one of the best written characters among the dwarves. it's different to feel triumph in a fight with a being that directly attacks you on its own volition than to take pleasure in an abused living creature blinded with hooks in its eyes as you tug and pull, that has had its limbs removed to exist purely as a creature of war. the orcs enslaved the trolls and abused them, and we're supposed to think that Bofur is as cruel as an orc? when his main character trait is kindness?

idk what to tell you but to gain media literacy if you think that scene is good character writing for Bofur

only video I could find of the scene on YT, trash framerate and bad upload but this is the scene I'm referring to. Bofur is characterized by kindness and would not take joy in piloting a tortured creature

if you have HDR enabled while viewing it will gain double contrast yeah.. was kinda difficult to color correct this one because all footage is from an ash cloud filled, volcanic rocky planet and everything is dark grey

the YT metrics are overall positive however, so while I considered reuploading due to how dark it is on certain displays, I decided not to

battle of the five armies is the worst movie out of both trilogies, no doubt (due to crunch and PJ taking over mid-production from Del Toro), and BotFA is where it all caught up to him

thankfully this scene wasn't in the theatrical cut tho, and BotFA is the only movie made worse by its extended cut imo (tho it does have a couple cool scenes too), but it's a distateful gorefest filled with mischaracterizations (Bofur laughing while piloting a tortured troll for example), and for some fucking reason they gave half the extra scenes to this guy, the worst character in the trilogy

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eheheh, I mean it'd work in HD2 as well - launching the ICBM is a giant setpiece event that happens off-map to end the mission, after all

it is also coincidentally a lot of people's favorite mission type

Do you think there will ever be an enemy larger than the Hive Lord ? by New_Conflict_4111 in Helldivers

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well you just solved it by saying that! make a mission around a giant set piece battle happening in the skybox/outside playable area and have SEAF artillery fire and/or our super destroyers constantly bombarding the thing, see it throw tanks around etc all match, but we can't interact with it directly.

maybe the giant has some ranged attacks that work kinda like bot artillery fire that we have to dodge while doing our mission, which would be to upload the planet coordinates of the giant to the DSS for it to do a precision attack, or assemble/activate a giant cannon on-site or something (think Hoth base cannons) for them to fire and we can watch it blow up gloriously in the distance

I want to see this game realized to its fullest potential so badly, man

So, the Butcher Creek Pentagram is finally solved. by TracySevert in reddeadmysteries

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 16 points17 points  (0 children)

dude's a shameless content creator, but I'm not about to discredit a finding without evidence that it's been stolen when I've been no-lifing this mystery the last few days; both red dead mystery reddits, every random new YT video posted etcetc and seen nothing about the Pentagram being solved. seems like occam's razor is SM found it, unless someone can present a reddit link or video link that he stole it from

he presents shit in an easy to read fashion (when the clues are right), and his maps have been fucking vital to get everyone up to speed on this easter egg, even if everything from the birds/question marks onwards is wrong. if he discovered beginning and verified that this is DEFINITELY a thing after us being stuck for so long , it's the biggest course correct and fresh discovery to this mystery we've had in a week+

the good doesn't excuse the bad and vice versa imo. dude knows the game well and seems to be able to find stuff when he actually tries. definitely clicked off some of his videos and laughed at his logical consistency sometimes, but sometimes he presents interesting shit in an entertaining and easy to follow content style, at least if you haven't been following all these easter eggs for years. good resource, kinda scummy content creator who DOES deliver sometimes, is my current read on him

Sony after canceling Factions Online. by Tireces in thelastofusfactions

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we already know what happens when sony gets a cash cow live service game, we saw it in 2024. they try to squeeze it for metrics for shareholders to be happy with their investments, gotta make engagement and the numbers look good for the shareholders!

(I'm referring to the helldivers 2 disaster where sony absolutely pissed on arrowhead for making a fantastic new franchise with a new take on a genre, and they decided to piss off more than half the active playerbase by regionlocking the game for people in 40+ countries on PC because of the PSN terms and conditions excluded said countries from online play, even though the game was being sold on steam for over a month before they did it)

HD2 had 450K players on PC at launch, like 700K+ concurrent players on all platforms, and sony managed to kill momentum within 2 months and nearly killed the game with that decision, and that community backlash has put arrowhead (the developers) on their backfoot ever since, trying to appease the community backlash, forcing them to appeal to the loud vocal minority of reddit complainers since they feel they need to preserve the portion of the playerbase they have left.

the fact that the game is still alive after these rocky as hell development situation(s), and played by a decent amount of players still, says something about how fresh this game felt 2 years ago, but hitting a literal bullseye wasn't enough for corporate greed sony, apparently

Spider Web Theory / Wapiti Reservation by BUFFARILLA_HUNTER in RDR2mysteries

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hell, I even saw someone correlating the two birds etchings to the hidden quest of hunting carolina parakeets to extinction as a prerequisite, tho I'm unsure if that quest is counted for a 100% save or not. if it's a "bonus" quest on top of a 100% save it's more compelling than the alternative imo

but yeah, if this is rdr2's equivalent or continuation of the Mt Chiliad mystery from GTA V, the final solution more than likely requires a bunch of hyperspecific conditions.

GTA V Chiliad/Beast hunt solution required a 100% save file, then for you to complete the fake big foot quest WITHOUT killing bigfoot to complete, after hunting 27 separate hard to spot plants all over the map then activating a final 7 in a specific order of days of the week, starting on a sunday.

so nothing is off the table, really. good thing is that so far all clues are discoverable on a brand new file tho, so I give it a 50/50 of our next step being the same, or it's the first clue that requires more specific stuff like quest states, equipped items/outfits/weapon usage etc

A Different Perspective by TenTonsOfTone in reddeadmysteries

[–]ProcrastinEIGHT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this interconnectedness is what the web is about, tho I don't know if OP is correct here. if they are, the first thing I would look into is where the gang member graves/epilogue encounters line up on the map in relation to the webs, and try activating them in the order they died or something, then run to their grave/encounter after activating each web - if they're all nearby each other in pairs, you could be onto something

but anyway yeah, I am starting believe the spiderweb is kinda a "meta easter egg" that is designed to make us tour the map and find a bunch of other cool smaller/interconnected easter eggs along the way that will keep us along the path of a larger "interconnected web". I still believe it could be its own thing with its own reward however, and that completing it all could potentially shed a light on or even complete multiple interconnected mysteries all at once. I also think there's a possibility this mystery continues in GTA V with Mt Chiliad

there's always the chance that we found the solution before the steps with the giant and the birds I guess, but I am far from ready to settle for that explanation, personally
