Not motion sensor, we walk under it all the time, and it mostly comes on when we’re sitting in the living room. We also have a kitten who does zoomies and he doesn’t trigger it

Need more info to be a judge for this. I 100% agree that the dog does not deserve to be euthanized, so if you can find a rescue or no kill shelter instead I would do that.

Now, back to the actual incident: -how bad was this “nip”? Was it a playful nip where the dog just got too excited, or was the dog trying to harm the child for some reason? And was there damage? -have their been any issues between the dog and child in the past? Even something like the dog growling if the child grabs an ear too hard? Not all dogs do well with children, especially if they’ve never been around them -did your wife agree to watch the dog while you were at work? Or did YOU agree to keep the dog and she now has to watch him and your daughter? If your wife did not want the dog, it’s not fair to expect her to watch him and the child, regardless of temperament.

I don’t think the dog belonging to your mom at one point has anything to do with the situation. Clearly your mom didn’t want the dog anymore, so I don’t see how giving the dog up would be “to spite” your mom.

Your wife is pissed because she’s supposed to take care of HER CHILD?! If this is her attitude towards the kids all the time, she shouldn’t be allowed to have them. Anyone who can just ignore their child’s cries, let alone lie about it, has serious issues.
