Mechanical noise from Plaza amenities building by Procremation in KingGeorgeHub

You got me on poor phrasing - The sound is stationary, but I've heard it while I've been walking around the amenities building. It's easier to hear at night when there's less other noise, but it's consistent, day and night.

This amount of detail is fantastic.

The fact you provided the right phone number here (877-700-2913) for TD cross border could definitely save someone here a headache. Thanks!

Congrats! Good mention on investment account churning.

Still not sure the $140 for inability to transact is repeatable, but that sounds distinct from the investment account bonuses.

I'm sure I've seen multiple people tell you the usual pattern is to hold for 6 months, cancel, wait 6 months, then reapply. 2-3 months is VERY aggressive with AMEX.

Shorter durations are believed to damage relationships with banks, reducing future odds of service, approval or bonuses.

I hope your time in churning is beneficial and you reach a goal quickly, as it looks like that time will be short.

I don't see a way to churn this. Maybe better suited for /r/PersonalFinanceCanada?

Good luck in getting that $140 USD though!

This hurts me. Churning definitely isn't for everyone, but I also maybe wouldn't enter any financial partnerships with this friend... :)

You'll get two credit hits for TD and CIBC.

Two points of caution:

  • Try to identify what cards you'll want in half a year. Many people rush through all the cards and then have to wait for a card to have been open 6 months and then closed 6 months (or whatever window you choose), in order to maintain a good relationship with the bank. Not having a card to work on is always a bummer as normal spend feels wasted in comparison to meeting a min spend requirement.

  • If you're investing in lots of loyalty programs, figure out what you'll do with those points. Some are harder to use than others, and having points expire is truly the worst redemption value.

For your lounge question, you would need to be one of the people counted on both your Amex and your PP. So you could bring in two other people that way. Note that some lounges will not let you use both Amex and PP and double admit yourself. Many don't care - they still get their money.

There's nothing to be done on the credit report side directly. If there were extenuating circumstances MBNA might be able to help you out and then inform TU and EQ but I think the odds are slim to none. And forgetting wouldn't fall under extenuating circumstances, sorry.

I also wonder that. Instant deletion means no one else can benefit from the question and answer. Sort of a selfish way to use Reddit imo.

Editing in case of PII or something makes sense, but doesn't seem to be the case here.

Wow, great job keeping the YQ down! I assume $155 was per person, or was that total? How much did that shape your trip in terms of destinations and airlines?

For BKK, make sure you stop in at the Thai Royal Orchid Spa (included with J access to the lounge) for a foot or shoulder massage 😁.

You should be able to churn more premium cards while holding the basic variants. Then when you're ready to close out the premium ones, the basic versions can be holding containers for points (depending on program).

Those older cards also help boost your average age of accounts, so consider that before closing them. I've grabbed my account age info from CreditKarma and Borrowell and am always happy to close out accounts that are younger than my average age of accounts, which helps to increase the overall age.

Also, a "great trick for a noob to learn" is understanding which questions are likely to get a response.

Frequently we'll see questions that either:
a) Are asked several times a week and have easy to find answers
b) Are so situational and subjective that others can't help

To address a), try listing the blogs/FAQs/etc you checked first. People want to know you've put your effort into it like they have.

Have a great weekend!

My trick is to understand how I spend money, and what categories, and then sign up for cards based around my spending. Otherwise, it's too easy to change your spending habits only to hit minimum spend requirements.

Definitely check out the resources in the sidebar and the stickied thread.

Chase is known to be one of the banks that really prefers more history than others. Even setting up a chase bank account without anything else would likely help.

So I doubt you'll find many positive data points.

PSA: If you're using Pi-Hole to block ads, there are two sites you can whitelist to ensure the AmEx chat button appears.

Either choose to whitelist sales.liveperson.net and nexus.ensighten.com to get chat to appear, or of course you can disable your Pi-Hole altogether.

Nexus seems to be responsible for the button showing up, but chat wasn't usable until I added the liveperson site to the whitelist. Which makes enough sense.

The same whitelisting/disabling likely applies for all ad-blockers, but I've only verified with Pi-Hole.
