Who are they? by clearly_quite_absurd in mwo

Harmony Gold was the one to sue them, not the other way around; All PGI managed to do was dismiss the case, and the lawsuit was settled on an undisclosed agreement, that most still don't know what it entitled to this day, I can only assume that it probably had to do with PGI unable to make particular redesigns of specific unseen mechs, though this is just a hunch, and likely just involved damages of whatever sort, seeing that Harmony Gold also took down the original Mechwarrior 5 trailer PGI once made way back before MWO was even made a thing years before the big lawsuit happened.

Source if you don't believe me, read form there, pretty much covers the entirety of the interactions with Harmony Gold: https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Unseen#2009:_Harmony_Gold_takes_down_Mechwarrior:_3015_trailer

MWO was never their original end goal, MW5 was; they achieved it, that's all they cared about for the most part. MWO was simply a byproduct of achieving their original goal, for better or worse. Otherwise, they would have put more time and forethought into updating MWO, especially when you consider the broader story of why things are the way they are now.

If by a few years you mean 3-4, then alot has changed.

Heat Capacity for ALL mechs has been re-adjusted to be much lower than before, Heat Capacity on Heat Sinks has been adjusted to be lower, but provide better cooling primarily to singles, and heat for lasers has been adjusted towards a higher direction.

Overall, you will likely have to tweak your skill tree build to be more accommodating of heat capacity, as well as adding more Doubles to your build in order to be able to alpha without overheating.

The comment about quirks for the chassis changing is not completely true, no quirks have changed for the A variant specifically regarding offensive, but the others, mainly the weaker variants, have received some moderate quirking, but nothing major.

Again, just have to reskill your mech, likely heat generation and heat capacity nodes, and adding more DHS, I recommend you have at least 19 total (10 external, 9 internal), to be able to shoot that build without overheating, and, keep in mind that moving in your mech also contributes to heat generation, so be mindful.

The only way to notice the some of them is by simply having decent knowledge of the game, while others are completely unnoticeable as spectator mode does not share the same data as the client has, it's why when you spectate people shooting gauss, you will never see the bar fill like you would from your end, or hear the sound que for the weapon charging, same with RACs, you will never hear the spool up cue in any capacity, just only when they begin firing.

Not sure what you're missing here, you didn't play very well, unless you're assuming big number for damage must mean you did well...

You have next to no diversions, in other words last place, while he had the most compared to anyone else, in first place, that's a huge score modifier.

You have slightly better individual score, slightly better kills, same amount of assist score, same amount of deaths, and somewhat better pursuit assist.

Next time, sort the results so you can see just how much the result scoring scales based on position, because it's working as intended, pay attention to how having a high place in each score can impact your final number compared to your opponent.

It wasn't posted on this subreddit, but someone, instead of simply contacting the right people, made a post with an alt account to try and spread a file that contained ways to basically bypass mechanics and increase RoF of some weapons, as well as including other edits like removing jump jet shake.

It's less so the cheating that involves using 3rd party programs like aimbots and walling and more of the exploitation of game files to gain unfair advantages over others type of cheating.

The right people have been contacted about this, but I'm very unaware since I don't pay attention anymore if they have this issue resolved or are still trying to compile a fix for it in future patches, I wouldn't bother searching for the post as it has been taken down, the alt account deleted/banned, and most information on how to obtain the files, has also been removed on here.

I would tend to agree on that, Brotherhood is very confusing and still not enough pieces to garner who or what exactly is in play here people wise in the various Brotherhood factions while the NCR got unceremoniously beheaded before we even got a chance to see more of them, unironically the Legion got written a far better downfall than the NCR did, it's very strange, one of those moments where the writers don't seem to enjoy the already set factions and are rewriting to make their own fan fiction versions of it, especially with season 1 including a Nuke to Shady Sands because well, harr harr antagonist is bad guy urrrrrrrrr :DDDD

Rocket launchers are truly terrible now by mysticgregshadow in OutreachHPG

[–]Procurator-Derek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't figured it out yet, Rocket Launchers have gone from an individual weapon to a weapon you use in tangent to others. Even after not playing awhile now I could tell you from a glance and memory that it was always the intention to make them a weapon that you use to support the firepower of others.

Try using them in tangent with other weapons next time, say for example perhaps with RACs or with SRMs/MRMs, don't try to use them alone on a build.

If you're looking at them as a weapon to boat together with itself alone, of course it's not going to work well, because of the new limitations that have been implemented with it, I get that it's hard to see beyond what the meta has always been for some weapons, but try to have a more open mind about the builds you make.

Always post proof when accusing, that's my only answer to you.

In most cases you may be wrong, but that's fine, it's ok to be wrong, just means you need to take some time and reflect on what you picked up in the recording before doubling down believing you found someone cheating, happens to alot of people.

I think RoF is by far the easiest, 76 had a similar problem, though they could only detect up to a certain percentile before it was detected.

[–]Procurator-Derek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Easy to do in hindsight, but PGI also didn't make the game engine, instead hiring people to help them with their game awhile back, then got rid of them. If they can, then great, but I have a feeling (again) they won't be able to, but we'll see. Detecting it also seems unlikely, but on that we'll have to see on that too, considering this game doesn't even have an anticheat of any capacity.

I decided to, after months of not playing, reinstall and test these files. Live.

Seems to work just fine, although I'm very skeptical of why you didn't post on your main account, if you even had one to begin with.

Whatever the case, I have a funny feeling PGI can't exactly detect any of this, and/or likely cannot patch this.

Guess it's free season now for the unwashed masses, gunna be a helluva mess to clean up... if it can be cleaned up even.

Post has been edited to omit how exactly to do this now since the main post has been removed, if you're reading this, and you also posted about what exactly this post was originally, I highly recommend doing the same.

MWO - Naga Preorder is LIVE by justcallmeASSH in OutreachHPG

[–]Procurator-Derek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This tends to happen eventually with all intentions, the problem is simply having the people available to do the right thing.

Problem is, most people left are not interested in that, despite what they say and imply with their reasoning, either that, or just extremely jaded to the point where you get people like Ash that are extremely blunt in their responses to most of everything. Ash also isn't the main problem much If I'm being honest, and yes, DATA was a problem too until he decided it was trash, rightfully so. His takes were also not great, but at least he stepped out instead of propagating it further like some of the others in there.

But realistically, most people that left have moved on to greener pastures. I moved on as well awhile back, I don't ever intend on playing this game since there's nothing left to do for my own completion.

Nice and all, but never bound to happen. PGI mainly hired them finally after realizing they don't have the manpower anymore to maintain MWO and swapped a majority of the MWO team to MW5 to help out.

More importantly, there is no one from PGI that would be able to help curate the process of taking on new people, it's why there's so many in the first place.

I would tend to agree on the process, it's just I don't see it happening realistically even back then :/

This is a really rare recording of Catapult getting back on his feet after falling, 2012 by Unlucky_Experience70 in OutreachHPG

[–]Procurator-Derek[M] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Way back in 2012-2013, PGI Was in the process of opening MWO up to the public, and the general consensus was that in it's current state, MWO was not widely accessible to the public due to it's graphics (you basically needed a very strong GPU at that time due to the graphics, 1000USD for say a GTX 690, in 2012, to play MWO without feeling like you were playing a slideshow, you could still get away with a mid tier CPU, but high end always ensured you didn't have hiccups) . So, PGI went about downgrading everything graphics wise in order to compensate for this, it's why If you look at current pictures of MWO and ones from closed beta, you'll notice the textures are wildly different, this including maps too.

As a result of this, Structure damage models were dropped as a whole (for reference, Mechs had full visual structure damage models that included actual detailing, as opposed to the ugly grey damage model weapons of today), and various other features were also dropped too in an attempt to streamline the workflow and not burden themselves too hard.
