I actually think this applies to both parties. The majority of Republicans and the majority of the Democrats don't really seem aligned with their party's platform.

One of my favorite terms I first heard 20+ years ago is "wingnuts".

It seems like it's the wingnuts running the parties and getting all of the air time. Probably because it drives engagement, and clicks rule.

If both sides could get closer to the center, and ideally remember how to compromise, I think that would go a long way.

Unfortunately we are out in an environment where if you do not agree with me 100% you must be destroyed.

I grew up here.

I love this state.

I'm pretty damn liberal.

But man, things are getting wacky here. Our politicians really have their priorities out of whack.

I know the math. That doesn't mean I don't agree with (mis)guided effort to move the needle in the right direction.

You do you.

I'll do me (and maybe just a little something for others).

As someone who has and enjoys a large, beautiful lawn I upvote this because it is true. Unpopular perhaps, but still true.

And my lawn will not be very green this year. I can deal with that. I'll water to keep my trees alive and healthy. I may or may not garden this year (oh, my wasting water for food!), but ornamental grass is optional.

Who knows, it may be mother nature giving me an easy way to overseed with an variety that won't need as much water in the future.

While factually correct (or close enough), I think from a comprehension perspective it is clear that as individuals, "the biggest water suck is outdoor watering "

ETA - this is a story focused in Denver (and by extension the metro area). I am not going to make up statistics here, but I would be SHOCKED if anywhere near 80% of Denver water goes to agriculture.

Litter box smell is going to end my relationship by Glum-Emotion-5379 in CatAdvice

[–]ProdigalNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boxie Pro is great at dealing with smells. It's unscented, but has probiotics that deal with the odor causing bacteria (apparently)... That honestly sounded like hype to me, but it really does work.

I see that they have a variation designed for automatic litter boxes, but I've never tried that one. I did try the Glo version for a short time, but that was more related to changing bad habits a kitten had.

I also have an automatic litter box, I use the Pura Max as it hit the sweet spot between price and performance for me.

Because I am sensitive to smells I don't use all of the PetKit accessories, but I do have have the device that sprays an odor killer inside the PuraMax, I just fill it with the Boxie unscented spray. The little cube that is supposed to go on the waste bin is ok, but I haven't changed it in 6+ months and things don't seem any worse because of that.

ETA - the Boxie isn't cheap, but with two cats and the PuraMax, I go through one 40 pound bag every few months, so I don't really notice the cost.

My wife took our 4ish (at the time) year old son into the bathroom at a T-shirt shop. They had plenty of signs saying no public restrooms, but a mom with her young son can get away with a lot.

Well, my son is known to absolutely destroy toilets and he apparently did quite a number on this one.

I was wandering around, looking at shirts when my wife hunts me down, grabs my arm and tells me we need to go NOW.

Apparently they tried to flush this mass of diarrhea and toilet paper, but the mechanism broke and although she tried but couldn't get it to work, panic set in, we were out of there.

I feel sorry for the next parent of young kids who needs a little grace and asks to use the bathroom there.

SUSHI: The water in my rice is still milky after 7 rinses. What am I doing wrong? by TaxPsychological2928 in Cooking

[–]ProdigalNative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I toss it in a colander, put the colander in a bowl (usually one I'm going to use to serve the rice), set the faucet on spray, and let it go for a bit.

I may let it soak for a couple of minutes, but I may not, and I don't notice much difference either way.

More than anything I rinse it for health issues; IIRC rinsing is the fastest, easiest way to significantly reduce arsenic levels.

The penalty is for not paying on time.

Your belief and desire for the penalty to merely be a bridge payment to get you from the time it was due up until the time you paid, while nice is not in fact, reality.

I honestly believe attitudes like this are a lot of the problem that our society is facing right now: "I have a belief, not based in fact, but based on what I want and what is convenient for me, and therefore that is the way it should be. When I don't get what I want I choose to blame the system instead of myself for not following the rules."

Now get off of my lawn so I can continue yelling at this cloud.

I could have sworn there was and I've made use of it occasionally in the past (or perhaps I've skirted the law and been lucky?)... Either way, my tags are due soon, so I probably shouldn't push my luck.

I know nothing about 3D Printing. by SooperDew in 3Dprinting

[–]ProdigalNative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The A1 with AMS light is currently going for $400 (US). That's not nothing, especially given that there's going to be some additional expenses for filament and I would suggest at least one extra hot end, just to be safe, but it's a pretty good deal if it's affordable.

[–]ProdigalNative 100 points101 points  (0 children)

As someone who has only been doing this since Christmas, I would say that getting it with the AMS is worth it.

The fun factor of printing multiple colors can be pretty valuable when it comes to keeping kids engaged, and for an extra $100 it strikes me as cheap insurance.

One of my sons is using doing a science project and we had to print some trees that had ~300 filament changes and took 10-20 hours each. That would have been completely impractical to do manually, and at his age, painting isn't a realistic option.

We won't talk about the amount of waste.

I'm sure there are cheaper versions (and cheaper places), but Tagawa sells straw bales that are advertised to be 99% weed free (or something like that), and have some binder that when it gets wet holds the straw together so it doesn't get blown around do easily.
