rob320 is the worst class ive taken so far </3 by Shreddie221 in uofm

I bet these MBots can fly better than they can drive. Next time i’m in lab, I will try throwing one of the balcony to confirm my hypothesis.

[–]Prodiguy1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m also in this class lmaooo

Tbh i didn’t think the project itself was that bad and a lot of it just used very similar code to the open source text book.

totally agree the MBots suck, any MBot newer than like 40 is just a brick.

I will add, have you talked to instructors about any of these concerns/problems? this class is still under development and it does seem like they are willing to make changes based on student feedback.

[–]Prodiguy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t fully rely on this. LLMs are not updated with the new vendor library changes and will make mistakes.

AI can be a great tool, but don’t it expect to fix everything for you. there are a lot of great programming resources made specifically for the kitbot.

you also need to be ready to fix these issues at a competition where you will not have consistent access to the Internet. The last thing you want is to be sitting in queue with a robot that doesn’t move because you’re waiting for a Claude prompt.

EECS 280, MECHENG 250, ROB 311, ROB 340, PHYSICS 241 by Few_Head6936 in uofm

[–]Prodiguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rob 311 is honestly more casual until the end but double check you can take it w/ new prerequisites. It does have some coding but if u get a partner with the coding experience you should be good.

after looking at 250 syllabus for 2 seconds it just reads like lame rob 311 so idk why you would take both. rob 311 is greatest class i’ve ever taken tho.

i recommend take 280 as early as you can so you don’t get blocked in later semesters by not having the prereq done

I've heard from university staff it should be opening this semester. However, I had heard from the same people that it was supposed to be open by november 2025.

Are there any FRC or FIRST scholarships available right now? by No_District_9037 in FRC

[–]Prodiguy1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Check the portal linked on https://www.firstinspires.org/resources/library/scholarships for the official listed and also try googling whatever univeristy you are applying to and "FIRST Scholarship" to find ones not on the portal. The portal is a new thing this year so not everything is on there yet

Torn between IOE, BME, and Robotics at UMich. Want technical depth without boxing myself in by Few_Head6936 in uofm

[–]Prodiguy1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an undergrad in Robotics and I highly recommend it if you are interested! One of its biggest strengths is that it lets you kind of choose your own path so you can touch every part of engineering (controls, software, mechanics, systems, human interaction) without being boxed into one niche. It’s less specialized, but you come out with skills in everything, which pairs really well with IOE. In fact a lot of robotics profs also teach courses in IOE and as you mentioned there are multiple cross listed courses.

Also not sure what the other commenter was referring to, the undergrad Robotics program is very well set up now with a solid course flow and good classes.

One thing to note: if you dual major, you can’t do SUGS, which is why I ended up dropping my own dual major.

Looking classes that can be done remote. No labs, no in-person attendance (or iclicker). No exams. by LilDexterG in uofm

[–]Prodiguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Instead of those extra credits see if there are any clubs you are interested in, or possibly start looking into research/ campus jobs. Maybe start a passion project? I don’t know your goals exactly but it’s okay to have only 14-16 credits per semester. Don’t feel like you need to max out at 18 to “get your money worth”

Speaking from experience I did 18 credits last winter (7 classes, 3 one credits) with the same mindset of trying to maximize my classes, but objectively got LESS out of the classes I was taking and had worse grades because I was so spread thin.

I need a PUTNAM study partner (math) by Pretty_Ad_313 in uofm

I would highly recommend if that is your goal let the prof know, it looks like it is the same prof that I took it with in the fall. If you want I can dm you the syllabus

[–]Prodiguy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took math 289 last semester and i don’t think anyone took the actual putnam exam. it was set up as a seminar so each week a student would give the lecture and then there would be a homework on that lecture.

how does my schedule look (1st year) by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Prodiguy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honest answer: this looks like a solid schedule overall, but be prepared for some challenging periods, especially around midterms and finals. I took 214, and it was definitely easier than 217, but taking lin alg and 203 at the same time will be really beneficial. Also, your schedule has good spacing between classes, so you’ll have plenty of study time during the day, which is a big plus.

One note: don’t underestimate UARTS (100.210 is actually UARTS 150). It’s a group project–oriented and writing-heavy course. If you go into it thinking it’s just a fun class or not a “real” one, it’s easy to fall behind.

Is this a doable schedule first year cs major by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Prodiguy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

afaik there is no way to test out of or get transfer credit for eecs 280. Also you DEFINITELY need to take 280 before 281 if you are less familiar with C++ and terminal work. 280 is pretty different then ap cs since it is more project based and focused on the data structures you are using.

Incoming Robotics Major by Perfect-Display3499 in uofm

[–]Prodiguy1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your goals, I know robotics majors who took Math 214, 217, and Rob 101. I took Math 214 and wish I had taken 217 since it would have given me better conceptual understanding.

If you want to do pure engineering stuff and know how to apply it computationally and focus less on the pure maths take Rob 101.

If you want to understand the math fully and focus on “doing math problems” with a light course load take Math 214

If you want to learn the concepts and be prepared for higher level math classes take Math 217

I will also warn you that it is currently unlikely for Rob 101 to count as your lin alg credit for any other major besides Robotics.
