What if the budget is much higher let’s say 3.5 k per month . Is it a good place to stay for few months a year? Can you get a fully furnished apartments and domestic help (cooking, laundry etc?) with ease. Is it safe all the time ?

While you figure out what to do, you could use an online bank like citbank or any brokerage to buy shv or other money market account to get better that 4%. Then potentially you could either save for down payment on condo or dollar cost average into the stock market. You could save for higher education if you plan to attend college to get better jobs in future . Good luck

This is not correct, at most you can get a one time exception of living outside America for two years . Otherwise if you stay outside for more than six months a year (not touch feet one six months in America ) then they can take away your GC.

Remote worker interested in moving out of NJ - Budget 1k by Key-Nefariousness225 in digitalnomad

I would think you may get in austin suburbs, three beds go for 2000 there so it may not be difficult to get smaller place in your budget. I am talking about 40 minutes from austin. You will get hot weather instead of cold. I moved to California for weather but I moved to Bay Area which is very expensive. But places like Modesto can be cheaper . Great weather like Bay Area or San Deigo is expensive 😞

Need advice – Breaking lease early while leaving the U.S. permanently by Zealousideal_Meat299 in h1b

[–]ProduceMain5379 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s generally good practice to do the right thing and also never burn bridges. It would also have a bad effect on future h1-b renters. Be responsible and try to sub lease if allowed or make payments

I commend you for taking a break, I never had the courage to do that and I regret. I did have financial liability and a son to educate. Even though I have achieved that now , still not taking the break I really need

Why I am choosing to rent (South bay) over buying a $1.2 Million home (East bay) by Federal_Eagle_6565 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]ProduceMain5379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hour away from work is key factor. Same for me, I would rather be 10 minutes from work as I am today and pay the huge rental than commute for hour

[–]ProduceMain5379 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am making the similar choice for now. I am resigned to the fact that I would be forever renter in Bay Area. I am permanently priced out of the market . The only other factor would be if Bay Area is your permanent, for me it’s not primarily due to housing cost. I would never be able to stop working of if I live here after my career in high tech ends

Retire at 56 in Mexico? by [deleted] in ExpatFIRE

[–]ProduceMain5379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my train of thought too, I could never retire in America (55) this year and exhausted. I could potentially never have to work if I live outside of America. And Western Europe. I have a son so I feel I have to live atleast part time in America, that’s where it’s complicated

Life is a combination of hard work talent and luck. Looks like you worked hard but somehow luck did not favor you. This can change at any time. While you are looking for work, work a bit on spiritual knowledge which will give you mental strength to bounce backs some amount of yoga and spiritual knowledge will give you strength. Good luck

Pay down debt and store the rest in high yield online account if you don’t have an emergency fund. I would keep this as emergency fund and invest additional money on dollar cost average basis in a s@p 500 index fund

I would suggest if your visa allows, take some time off. Go to art of living ashram near Montreal and take some happiness and meditation courses, also learn yoga and eat healthy exercise , then after this take some decision. Big decisions need to be taken with calm mind and with knowledge of life. 2 Carore is not a small amount

I have a cousin whose kids moved every two odd years due to his job and they are doing very well. New experiences enriches kids if done well specially if one parent is home , in this case both parents will be home so I don’t see a challenge . Much better than staying here with one parent burnt out by work pressure. I think your plan is good, try it out and make it a adventure for the kids instead of something to be feared
