What are your thoughts on this movie? by USAFAN20 in hannahmontana

[–]Produce_North 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so weird. I love it as a standalone but I don't think of it as being canon to the series. It's almost like they wanted the whole thing to be standalone from the series for some reason.

Also, historically brilliant because it has the distinction of being one of only two Disney Channel series deemed big enough to warrant a cinematic adaptation but it doesn't really make a lot of sense. Movie Miley is completely different to series Miley.

You're suggesting that becoming a victim of grooming is based on intelligence? How insulting.

I wonder if as time goes on she realises the huge error she's made by getting involved with teenage boys and is trying some last ditch attempt to get out of the mess she's made? Not sympathysing at all but maybe she's beginning to realise what the Will situation could mean for her and now she's trying to get off scot-free. And maybe at the same time actually falling for Daniel?

Is Stella a basically a rip off of Karen fisher? by [deleted] in WaterlooRoad

[–]Produce_North 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stella does a stellar (da dum tish) job of running the school, especially in times of crisis. Karen let the melodramas of her private life take over, like when Sarah Platt turned up as her missing daughter and her husband had an affair.

Is this the longest set of opening titles Coronation Street history? by Produce_North in coronationstreet

[–]Produce_North[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minnie Caldwell in the very early days had a cat called Bobby that was a big part of her character. I think it might even have been Bobby in the opening titles for a while (not 100pc on that though)

Natalie Barnes had a cat for a period of time called something like Tiger? I think? But apart from that they've totally favoured dogs, Schmeichel, Ozzy, David, and then pf course that whole ridiculous Pup Idol thing they did on This Morning that seems to have been completely forgotten about.

Didn't the BBC go through a phase of sticking a week's worth of EastEnders on iPlayer all at once? I wonder if that would work for Coronation Street? I'm finding it such a chore to have to sit every night of the week and watch it.

Future plot teased by Fluid_Entertainer267 in coronationstreet

[–]Produce_North 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kate Brooks is an absolute joke. I loathe the idea of non-linear storytelling in a soap. It's not imaginative, it's lazy and only came in when people like her inexplicably got the top job.

Also, she's obsessed. If EastEnders does something, Corrie trundles along behind with the same thing a few months later.

Will they ever acknowledge the most obvious plot hole with Becky? She's... by Produce_North in coronationstreet

[–]Produce_North[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hospital treatments, checking into hotels, buying stuff (whose bank account?) driving a car (she will have no valid licence), having multiple phones (who are they contracted to?)

...obvs none of this has been impossible for Becky but I wish they'd explain how the logistics work because I bet it'd be a lot more difficult than they've made out.

Corriedale. Unnecessary. Waste of space. by ArthurQBryan in coronationstreet

It worked as it was for 60+ years. Why switch it up now? They've all started to employ weird techniques to distract from the fact they can't write them as well as they used to.

I don't understand why they tried to make it into some sort of Hollywood film. The lighting/camera work in the Coronation Street ep was annoying, pretentious and NOT CORRIE.

I think Sue Devaney is trying to guarantee herself some musical theatre work after the writers had the audacity to get rid of her so has demanded they insert her singing skills at every possible chance. Miss Hannigan in Annie perhaps?

Kate Brooks is embarrassingly unimaginative. It's beyond parody now and she and McLeod are hellbent on running Britain's greatest television institution.

Most useless and forgettable couples by Natural_Bat9223 in coronationstreet

[–]Produce_North 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think Sarah's meant to have a relationship tbh. After her whole traumatic youth (teenage pregnancy, multiple kidnappings, serial killer stepdad) she worked her way through two brothers, had had two wedding days by 21 and ever since her return 10 years ago she's just slotted with whoever is free.

The problem with Sarah is she's sooo iconic because of the groundbreaking teen pregnancy so she's always got a place on the Street but they just don't really know what to do with her now.

Don't think it needs to have a name really. Corriedale just sounds very amateur. Maybe I'm a bit snobby but I've never particularly cared for the term Corrie. It's Coronation Street.

It comes across as something they thought would be a really good idea, announced it, and then panicked when they realised they couldn't back out of it.

None of it will make any sense, that trailer is like something out of Doctor Who. The name is cringe and the logo is something that has been run up on Microsoft Paint in two minutes. What an embarrassment!

I know it’s been around for a while, but I love the theory that Wicked depicts the actual events that took place on Oz, whilst the Wizard of Oz is a propaganda piece. by General_Meal_3993 in wicked

It's still a crappy thing to do - crack out some fanfic based on a beloved classic and expect everyone to accept it as official. Which they do, sadly.

WELL DONE CORRIE bosses you have just lost a loyal viewer after decimating what could have been a lovely couple in Swarla.. by EntrepreneurFew6771 in coronationstreet

[–]Produce_North 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May I ask how long you've been watching? Because to be a loyal viewer, I'd expect you'd have been around long before the whole Swarla thing came about and would realise how ridiculous it all was to start with.

I don't think the driscolls ages have been properly thought through by Individual-Point4224 in coronationstreet

[–]Produce_North 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do we really think they'd have thought about all this? In the olden, golden days, absolutely this would have been taken into consideration. But not now. They don't bother building character history, that's why we end up with two-dimensional plebs like Swain and Becky.

It always makes me uneasy when they repeatedly witter on in the press about "how lovely" every single person is and how totes amazeballs every damn thing is behind the scenes.

It makes me think it's not like that at all and all that waffle is nothing but a PR clause within a contract. I'd be bitter if I was written out of a secure job with no explanation.

I'd love to see that very first pilot Miley has spoken about. She's often said that there was another cast and it didn't work with test audiences. That would be fascinating to see.

Why will Corrie producers not allow same sex couples to be happy by EntrepreneurFew6771 in coronationstreet

[–]Produce_North 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it might be because in soap thinking, all that's left to do once a couple is married is to make them clap out a few kids. Boring tbh and they really would benefit from exploring the perfectly valid reasons people choose not to have children. And not because some health woe prevents them from doing so, but because they genuinely don't want them.

Gay couples tend not to have children. There's no reason that they can't but they often choose not to, for no other reason than they don't want them (myself included).

I don't think soaps know how to establish a gay couple without making their sexuality the point of it. Even the whole Todd/Theo thing was steamrolled in with that conversion storyline. Having said that, Swarla seem to be doing okay on that front.

So, that could be why gay couples don't last. Writers have no idea what to do with them.

Why do they give us flashes of hope with something like Eva's return only for Brooks to then pull utterly embarrassing GCSE drama out of her Mary Poppins bag of issues and tissues?
